Broncos up for GMC Never Say Never Award

December 6th, 2011 - 9:20am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

In what is becoming a weekly occurrence, the Broncos are nominated for the Week 13 GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week Award for their comeback victory at Minnesota. Fans can vote for the moment that best represents determination and perseverance.

This marks the fourth consecutive nomination and fifth of the season. Denver has won the honor each time it has been nominated.

The team is getting so accustomed to the comeback victories that linebacker Mario Haggan suggested that they rename the weekly award to the ‘Tim Tebow Fourth Quarter Moment.’

“I’d take that as long as they turn into wins,” Haggan said on Monday.

The team won the award in Week 12 for its comeback win at San Diego, in Week 11 for its game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter against the Jets, in Week 10 for its victory at Kansas City and in Week 7 for its overtime win at Miami.

Each week’s winner will be stacked up against the 16 other Never Say Never weekly winners at the end of the season to determine the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year. At the conclusion of the regular season, fans can log onto NFL.com/gmc to vote throughout January for their favorite Moment of the Year among the 17 candidates.

For his record-breaking performance against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14, Brandon Marshall will be named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week. It is the second time in his career he has earned the award.

His 21 receptions set a new NFL single-game mark, and gave him 86 on the year. Marshall set another NFL record in the game, recording the most 10-plus-catch games — eight — in a player’s first four seasons in NFL history.

He now owns two of the top four single-game receiving totals in league history — he caught 18 passes in last season’s home opener against San Diego. He also earned the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award after that performance.

His 21 catches against the Colts went for 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns, upping his season totals to 1,008 and 9, respectively. This is Marshall’s third consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season.

Marshall’s award represents the fifth time a Broncos player has won the weekly honor this season, joining Champ Bailey, Kyle Orton, Eddie Royal and Matt Prater.

This week, the Oakland Raiders head to INVESCO Field at Mile High. Earlier this season, Marshall caught five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown against the division rival.
