Elway: ‘Pedal to the Metal’

October 23rd, 2012 - 11:02am by Sam DavisOther posts by

There were plenty of positives for the Denver Broncos in their Week 6 comeback win at San Diego, and Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway hit on most of them in this week’s episode of Elway Access, hosted by Broncos TV’s Chris Hall.

Coming out of halftime facing a 24-0 deficit, the Broncos marched 85 yards down the field in eight plays, as quarterback Peyton Manning finished the drive with a 29-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

That drive, followed by cornerback Tony Carter’s 65-yard scoop-and-score off a fumble, were the two biggest factors in shifting the momentum in Denver’s favor, according to Elway.

Quotable: Denver vs. Detroit

October 30th, 2011 - 8:34pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Here’s what was said following Detroit’s 45-10 victory over Denver:

Head Coach John Fox: “We’ve got a ways to go. We’ve been good at times. Today wasn’t good enough. That is a good football team coming off two losses. Two or three years ago, they were 0-16, so it’s doable. I think they’ve improved, and they’ve got some good players to help them do that.”

Tebow-to-Decker for TD

October 30th, 2011 - 5:01pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos got back on the board midway through the fourth quarter, as the offense put together a nine-play, 80-yard drive capped off by a 14-yard pass from Tim Tebow to Eric Decker.

It was a screen pass, and Decker leaped over a defender before sprinting past several Lions into the end zone.

Lance Ball had 23 rushing yards on the drive, and Tebow picked up 18 on the ground himself to help keep the drive alive.

Matt Prater’s extra point sailed through the uprights to bring the score to 45-10, Lions.

Decker now leads the team in receiving with 66 yards.

Broncos vs. Lions: First Half Recap

October 30th, 2011 - 3:46pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

After a successful first drive, the Broncos offense wasn’t able to get much going in the first half.

The team is 0-for-7 on third downs, and has four three-and-outs on seven drives. The seventh drive featured an unsuccessful fourth-down conversion as Tim Tebow simply threw the ball high in the air out of bounds to run the clock down to halftime.

Tebow is 4-for-13 for 37 yards and has been sacked three times.

The team’s leading rusher is Lance Ball, who has two carries for 37 yards. Knowshon Moreno has chipped in 27 yards on the ground, and Tebow has rushed four times for 15 yards.

The Lions outgained the Broncos 274 yards to 79 in the first half.

The Denver defense sacked Matthew Stafford twice in the first half.

Stafford is 16-for-22 for 191 yards and two scores, good for a quarterback rating of 129.2 yards.

The Lions lead the game 24-3, having scored 24 consecutive points after the Broncos’ opening-drive field goal.

Lions Up 21

October 30th, 2011 - 3:38pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

After another Broncos punt, the Lions marched down the field for another score just before the half.

Matthew Stafford hit Calvin Johnson on a screen pass, and the receiver was hit hard by D.J. Williams and fell backwards to the 1-yard line. The play was reviewed, as it looked like Johnson might have fallen on Robert Ayers’ foot, keeping him off the ground as he reached the ball toward the end zone.

But Johnson was ruled down, and the Lions handed off to Maurice Morris for a leaping, 1-yard touchdown run on the next play.

That makes it 24 consecutive points for the Lions to close out the first half. They lead 24-3.

Denver received the ensuing kickoff with 29 seconds left, and the Broncos ran four plays — the second of which was a quarterback sack — to bring the game to halftime.
