Making a Difference

October 6th, 2012 - 8:50am by Von MillerOther posts by

This week I wanted to talk to you guys a little bit about my foundation. Von’s Vision is an organization that helps underprivileged kids who can’t afford glasses or contact lenses. It also helps teenagers that are eligible for Lasik surgery.
You can check my Twitter account for details.

It’s something I really identify with, because I’ve been wearing glasses since like the third grade. And I’ve been wearing contacts since the fourth grade. I know how it is to have to pay for contacts and stuff. And for adults to have to scrap up money to pay for Lasik surgery, it’s real expensive.

We have another tough opponent on the schedule this week with a trip to New England.

It feels great to be able to play without a cast this time around against the Patriots. We have a bad taste in our mouth from last year so we definitely want to go in there and play really well this weekend.

We just have to be mentally sound and cut down on the mental errors. They’re a great team and they’re going to make plays. We just have to make plays too.

Gig em!

Harris Continues Ascent

October 5th, 2012 - 7:43am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

In starters Orlando Franklin, Von Miller and Rahim Moore, the Broncos have a strong corps of second-year players contributing on a weekly basis.

But in addition to those 2011 NFL Draft picks, cornerback Chris Harris — an undrafted free agent last season — is playing a key role as a sophomore.

“For him to make the team as a free agent last year, he knows he’s better this year,” cornerback Champ Bailey said. “His mentality as far as the game and what to expect, it’s sky-high right now and he’s feeling good about what he can do.”

Bailey said Harris has grown “tremendously” from year one to year two.

Last year, Harris played in all 16 regular-season games and both playoff contests as a rookie, starting five as he emerged as the team’s nickel cornerback.

He was named to the 2011 NFL All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers of America and Football Outsiders after ranking first among the league’s rookie defensive backs with 65 tackles to go along with one interception, six passes defensed and six special-teams stops.

A Familiar Foe for Leonhard

October 4th, 2012 - 4:48pm by Sam DavisOther posts by

Safety Jim Leonhard has spent six of his eight years in the AFC East, where he played the New England Patriots at least twice a year.

While he admits he hasn’t had much success against them, Leonhard has enough experience against the Pats to know the keys to defeating them.

“I always say, to beat Tom Brady, you have to hit him and you have to get there with four (defenders),” Leonhard said. “That’s easy to say but it’s not very easy to do. I think we have the guys up front that we can get it done and get him off his spot and get him moving a little bit. That’s what you have to do to have success against him.”

Pressuring Brady with just four – not five, six or seven – is important because of Brady’s ability to recognize a blitz and capitalize on the matchups that are created in the secondary when additional players rush the passer.

Full Participation for Entire Roster

October 4th, 2012 - 2:08pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

On Wednesday, the entire 53-man roster participated in practice.

Today, the news got even better for the Broncos, as every player on the roster was listed with full participation in Thursday’s session.

That includes guard Chris Kuper and linebacker Nate Irving, who were both limited on Wednesday.

It marks Kuper’s first full practice since fracturing his forearm in training camp on Aug. 14. Thursday was Irving’s first full practice since suffering a concussion in Week 3 against the Houston Texans.

Fox said Kuper’s status for Sunday’s game in New England is still up in the air, but if he were able to play, “it would be great.”

“He’s been through a lot with the ankle in the offseason and forearm in the preseason,” Fox said of the team captain. “At the end of the day, he’d much rather be out here than in the training room, so I’m sure he’s excited about it.”

Big Game This Week

October 4th, 2012 - 7:28am by Eric DeckerOther posts by

We considered last week a pivotal game, not a must-win, but pivotal, because it was in the division and it was at home. We thought we were a better team than we put out there record-wise, so just to come out there and execute well against a solid Oakland team was encouraging to everybody.

The best part is it was a total team effort. All three phases played great. To win a championship and to be a championship team that’s what you’ve got to do consistently. Execute well offensively, get three-and-outs defensively and make a play on special teams. We accomplished that against Oakland.

Big game this week. I was just saying, New England is one of the premier teams in this league in modern time. For us to pack it up and go up to Foxborough is going to be a challenge and a test for us. But I think we’re excited. We know that we’ve got to play our best. That’s been our focus this week.

I thought the first time we played them last year, we were winning the game up to the middle of the second quarter, then I think we had three turnovers. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot. We were doing things well, we just can’t have turnovers against a team like this. The second time was just — they had our number. We didn’t play well. I think that still sticks in a lot of guys’ minds, and we know we want to go up there and perform a lot better.
