November 27th, 2011 - 3:32pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Elvis Dumervil moved the Chargers backwards to start their two-minute drive, breaking into the backfield and sacking Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers for a 13-yard loss.

The sack gives Dumervil 4.5 quarterback takedowns on the season and 47.5 in his career. He now has sacks in four straight games, which marks a career-best streak. Dumervil is the one of two players in the NFL with at least a half sack in the past four games.

A 6-yard touchdown pass from Philip Rivers to Antonio Gates extended San Diego’s lead to 10-0 midway through the second quarter.

The methodical, 15-play drive spanned the first and second quarters. The Chargers drove 86 yards in 8:47 of game time.

On the drive, the Chargers converted three third downs — two were third-and-1, and the third was for the touchdown.

After a penalty on the ensuing kickoff, the Broncos begin their next offensive series at their own 7-yard line.

Champ Bailey, Andre’ Goodman, Quentin Carter and Brian Dawkins started in the secondary.

Offensively, the team started on its own 28-yard line with Eric Decker and Eddie Royal as receivers, Tim Tebow at quarterback, Willis McGahee at running back and Daniel Fells at tight end. Chargers Take 3-0 Lead

A 53-yard Nick Novak field goal gave the Chargers an early first-quarter lead against the Broncos, 3-0.

The drive was fueled by 32 yards on the ground by Ryan Mathews on three carries. But the defense held strong down the stretch, stopping Mike Tolbert after a 5-yard gain, then forcing two Philip Rivers incompletions.

It was a nine-play, 45-yard drive — capped off by Novak’s career-long field goal — that took 3:26 off the clock. Denver, who won the opening coin toss and deferred, is now ready for its first offensive possession.

Broncos at Chargers: Inactives

November 27th, 2011 - 12:57pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Just got the Broncos inactives.

Quan Cosby, Quinn Johnson, Manny Ramirez, Tony Hills, Julius Thomas and Derrick Harvey will not suit up for today’s game against the Chargers.

Teams must have no more than 46 players active on gameday, and since the Broncos entered the game with only 52 players on the active roster — one short of the league maximum — the team was required to make just six players inactive as opposed to the typical seven.

For San Diego, WR Bryan Walters, CB Marcus Gilchrist, G Louis Vasquez, G Tyronne Green, T Marcus McNeill, WR Malcom Floyd and DE Luis Castillo are inactive.

Expecting a Competitive Game

November 26th, 2011 - 11:55am by Rahim MooreOther posts by

How was everybody’s Thanksgiving?

Mine was fantastic. I ate at my house -– one of my friends, she cooks, so we just relaxed at home. I didn’t get a chance to see my family because they were in California, so I was there in spirit and they were here with me in spirit.

Overall, I’m thankful for a lot of things. I’m thankful that I can be able to play this beautiful game that God blessed me to play, be able to be a part of this team. It’s especially fun to be part of the team since we’re playing so well.

Broncos vs. Chargers Series History

November 25th, 2011 - 9:14am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Denver and San Diego will meet for the 104th time on Sunday, marking the most common regular-season matchup for the Broncos. All-time, Denver is 54-48-1, including a 19-32 record on the road against San Diego.

When the teams played one another for the first time, the Chargers franchise was still located in Los Angeles. The Chargers won that game 23-19 on Oct. 16, 1960 in Denver. The matchups have remained close throughout the teams’ history as the Chargers average 21.9 points per game to the Broncos’ 21.1 in the series.

Earlier this season, the Chargers defeated the Broncos 29-24 on Oct. 9 in Denver. Tim Tebow took over the quarterback position following a 23-10 halftime deficit and led the Broncos to within a two-point conversion of overtime before San Diego tacked on a field goal in the game’s final seconds.

Denver hopes to end a four-game losing streak to San Diego, having last won 34-23 on Oct., 19, 2009 in San Diego.
