Broncos Win Toss

November 11th, 2012 - 11:02am by Tyler EverettOther posts by

The Broncos have won the coin toss by calling heads and chosen to defer their choice to the second half, so Denver will start the game on defense.

The Broncos captains for today’s game are quarterback Peyton Manning, defensive end Elvis Dumervil, cornerback Champ Bailey, linebacker Wesley Woodyard and tackle Ryan Clady.

The Broncos starting defensive linemen are Dumervil and Derek Wolfe at defensive end, with Kevin Vickerson and Justin Bannan at defensive tackle. The linebackers are Von Miller on the strong side, Keith Brooking in the middle and Wesley Woodyard on the weak side. In the secondary, the starting cornerbacks are Bailey and Chris Harris, with Mike Adams and Rahim Moore at the safeties.

On offense, the Broncos starters at the skill positions are Manning, running back Willis McGahee, wide receivers Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas and tight ends Joel Dreessen and Virgil Green. The starters along the offensive line are tackles Clady and Orlando Franklin, guards Manny Ramirez and Zane Beadles, with J.D. Walton at center.

Great Preparation + Great Coverage = Sacks

November 10th, 2012 - 7:38am by Von MillerOther posts by

I’m looking forward to a great matchup this week against a tough offense led by one of the superstars in this league, Cam Newton.

Cam is cool — I think I’m his biggest fan. We got to know each other last year when we were both drafted as rookies. He’s hard to bring down, but we’ll be doing our best this weekend. I definitely want to win, just like he does, and I’m looking forward to this game.

I was able to get a few sacks last week thanks to great preparation during the week and then great coverage by Champ Bailey, Chris Harris, Tony Carter and the rest of the secondary.

It all starts in practice, going against Orlando Franklin and Ryan Clady, those guys are real good and how you practice translates when you step on the field on Sunday.

Looking For Four in a Row

November 9th, 2012 - 10:52am by Eric DeckerOther posts by

So we’ve got three in a row, and like Coach Fox says, 4-0 is better than 3-0. This week we’re in Carolina.

I think you see offensively we’re just cutting down on mistakes that we made at the beginning of the year, the turnovers. We’re more efficient on third down and in the red area. That’s something that’s really keeping us on the field and creating positive drives with touchdowns. That’s just hard work and little details we’ve been putting in since April — it’s starting to pay off. We’re starting to find that groove, find that rhythm.

The Panthers are a team that on the defensive side of the ball has improved from the beginning of the year. They pose a lot of challenge for us because their front seven is very active. They’ve got more than 20 sacks on the year, so you know they get to the quarterback. That’s something that we’ve got to really pay attention to this week. Then we’ve just got to take care of ourselves as far as technique work and getting open, because it’s going to be a challenge.

We know Coach Fox spent a lot of time there. I think he was very well appreciated in Carolina. But it’s definitely good to always win against the team you just left. But we’re focused on what we can do. Obviously Coach Fox understands what it means to go home, but it’s us versus Carolina, so we’ve got to make sure we do everything possible to win.

We head to the airport in a few hours, so talk to you next week.

Broncos Blog Scoring Contest: Week 10

November 9th, 2012 - 9:50am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Let’s keep this thing going!

A lot of great guesses this week, and apparently great minds think alike, because five people guessed 31-20 and six went with 31-17.

But for a refresher, the Broncos defeated the Bengals in Week 9 by a score of 31-23, so one blogger stood alone at the top of the leaderboard this week — Thomas P, who predicted a final score of 31-21.

In second place were Dbroncos82, strandoftds82, still1972, footballMANIAC and The Dane. Third-place points go to TicoBroncoFan, Miller Time 58, broncsbomber66, BroncoBoogie, Ginandy2009 and baylinorcrush.

Predictions for this week’s game in Carolina are already being accepted, and will be up until kickoff on Sunday. They can be submitted here.

Clady Keeping QB Clean

November 8th, 2012 - 7:52am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

There have been 592 sacks through nine weeks of play in the NFL this season.

Broncos tackle Ryan Clady hasn’t allowed a single one of them.

In fact, he’s the only left tackle in the league to have started each one of his team’s games without giving up a sack through Week 9.

“It feels good,” Clady said of the way he’s started the season. “I’ve always strived to get better every year.”

The fifth-year tackle has been playing at an elite level since he was drafted 12th overall by the Broncos in 2008. He is one of just five offensive linemen in NFL history to start every game and make multiple Pro Bowls during his first four seasons.

Finishing Strong

November 7th, 2012 - 5:33pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Through nine weeks, the Broncos have done the majority of their damage in the third and fourth quarters.

In the second half of games, Denver has outscored its opponents 166 to 67.

The team hopes that formula holds true for the second half of the season.

“It’s all about these next eight games,” tight end Jacob Tamme said. “Now it’s on to the second half of the season and on to the Panthers. You look at it through sort of that lens, and you’re able to see where you kind of stand, but then you come back and get ready to go one week at a time.”

As the team enters the third quarter of the season, it will try to — at least — match its 3-1 performance in the second quarter of the slate.

Fox said that’s the goal each quarter, and the Broncos are only one game off that pace in the first half of the campaign.

“This next quarter has two road games, that’s the first thing that jumps out at you, and two division games,” quarterback Peyton Manning said. “Even though it’s a quarter, you still take those one at a time. We are all about the Carolina Panthers.”
