Picture day in Hawaii

February 8th, 2009 - 4:10am by dave_gaylinnOther posts by

Friday was a team picture day for both the AFC and NFC squads. After that was a light walk-through for each team. Brandon and his fiancee took a helicopter tour around the island. I’ve been itching to get in the water for a long time, so I passed and raced down the 16 floors and jumped into the crisp, clear ocean.

The report from the helicopter ride was very positive. There were some scary moments, including one that Brandon described as “we don’t have time to turn, just throw this thing in reverse and let’s get out of here!” They flew right next to a water fall, over Diamond Head crater among other places on the island.

Aloha from Hawaii!

February 6th, 2009 - 6:48pm by Romi BeanOther posts by

Aloha from Hawaii! Before I talk about this week, I want to say thank you to all of you who read my blog and post comments. I always try to respond to your comment after you post them, but I have not had a chance to post responses to my last blog. Your comments are always so interesting, thought-provoking, and kind. This past week, I was truly touched by all of your remarks. Thank you for all of the wonderful compliments you give to the cheerleaders and the team. When I read your comments, it inspires me to work harder and be a better cheerleader and human being. So thank you all very much!!

Well — I have been in Hawaii since Monday, and it has been the most incredible experience!! Alex and I flew in on Monday together, and I have only seen her once since then! The Youth Clinic Cheerleaders are staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders are at the Sheraton Waikiki. I have spoken with Alex everyday on the phone, and it sounds like she and the other Pro Bowl Cheerleaders are busy every second of the day! They had an eight hour rehearsal on Tuesday, a four hour rehearsal on Wednesday, and a three hour rehearsal yesterday to prepare for Sunday’s game. On top of that, they are busy attending promotional events for the Pro Bowl and other appearances. Needless to say, they are as busy as they can possibly be! She is having an amazing experience and says the cheerleaders from the other teams are all marvelous. I cannot wait to watch her and the other cheerleaders on the sidelines this Sunday! Alex is going to represent us so well, so watch for her on TV!

A quick update from Hawaii

February 6th, 2009 - 2:37am by dave_gaylinnOther posts by

Well, it sure has been an interesting start to Pro Bowl weekend for me.

First, please allow me to introduce myself. In his blog, Jim Saccomano, has often mentioned the behind-the-scenes staff the Broncos have. My name is Dave, and I am a part of that behind-the-scenes staff, Saccomano’s media relations staff to be specific. Since the start of the 2008 season, I have handled Brandon Marshall’s media requests. In that role, I have forged a strong relationship with the starting wide receiver at this weekend’s Pro Bowl. I was fortunate enough that Brandon felt my performance worthy of an invitation to join him in Hawaii.

My Pick: Steelers 17-14 over the Cards

January 31st, 2009 - 1:16pm by mark_cooperOther posts by

Looks like the majority went with the Cards….Me, I like the Steelers…but I went 0-4 in the playoffs so we’ll have to see what happens. Like I mentioned, I’d need a loan if I was a gambler. I hate to lose so I wouldn’t make a very good gambler.

Caught a bunch of redfish in Mosquito Lagoon near Titusville, Florida over the weekend and had fun golfing at Tim Wakefield’s Charity Golf Tournament. It was interesting talking to Jim Rice, who just went into the MLB Hall of Fame. He’s always at Tim Wakefield’s event so we chatted about the day he was confirmed and the interview curcuit he was on, etc. I’m not a big baseball guy/fan but admire athleticism just the same. Great player I just didn’t really follow the sport growing up but he got a very nice reception at the tournament. Congrats to him and his family.

The Final Touches

December 26th, 2008 - 3:30pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

The day after Christmas started cold and rainy, but it cleared up and warmed up for the Broncos to practice and put the final touches on their preparation for the trip to San Diego.

A NEW TOP RIVALRY?

With the intensity heating up between the Broncos and Chargers, it’s fair to ask if this rivalry has become the biggest one for the Broncos, jumping ahead of the long-lasting rivalry with the Raiders.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan was asked that question after Friday’s practice.

“I think so,” Shanahan said. “I think any time a team is playing well and they’ve won the division a couple years, I think there’s always that anticipation about playing a good team, especially at their place for all the marbles. Obviously a lot goes into it.”

Jamie Winborn weighed in on that as well, saying that all the heat has definitely been turned up on Broncos-Chargers games.

But no matter how intense the rivalry may be, it all comes down to how they play on the field, and when they take the field Sunday, the end result will send the winner to the playoffs.

“They were a good team when we beat them the first time, they’ll be a good team this time also. They’re the same team, man, we’re the same team – it’s all about who plays the best on that day. We just know we’ve got a job ahead of us,” Winborn said. “But we’ve been focused this week and we’re ready to play.”

Jones Back; Boyd to Practice Squad

December 18th, 2008 - 10:17am by Adam ZinserOther posts by

The Broncos announced several roster transactions yesterday evening, including the signing of safety Herana-Daze Jones (pronounced Hernandez Jones) to their active roster.

The team also signed running back Cory Boyd to its practice squad after he was waived from its active roster on Monday, and the club released running back Steve Baylark from the practice squad.

Jones first signed with the Broncos on Dec. 3 and was inactive for his one game on the roster before he was waived on Dec. 10. He saw time in three games this year with Cincinnati, which waived him on Nov. 4, and spent his first three full seasons (2005-07) with the Bengals.

Boyd first signed with the Broncos’ practice squad on Nov. 4. He was promoted to Denver’s active roster on Dec. 9 and was inactive for Sunday’s game in Carolina.

In just their third year in the NFL, Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall have made their mark upon the league.

Cutler and Marshall will represent the Denver Broncos in the Pro Bowl.

It began with fan voters who made them two of the top vote getters, and now it is official after players and coaches around the league have voted.

It marks the first time for both players at the annual all-star game, which will be played on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu at 2:30 p.m. MST and will be televised by NBC.
