The Broncos returned to the Dove Valley practice field this evening for their second full-squad workout of training camp.

The team was met at first with a brief rain shower, but fans weren’t deterred.

Despite the weather early on, a Dove Valley-record crowd in the morning practice was followed up by an attendance of 1,891 — a record for an afternoon session.

With interest at a high, the evening session commenced under cloudy skies and what turned out to be quite comfortable, cooler weather.

2010 Training Camp Day 1: A.M. Blog

August 1st, 2010 - 10:15am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The 2010 season came one step closer Sunday morning with the first practice of training camp. A Dove Valley training camp record crowd of 3,103 arrived early for opening day, with some folks lining up to see the orange and blue as early as 4:45 a.m. Mind you, that’s four hours prior to the start of the session.

The first player on the field? Kyle Orton, to a loud applause from the crowd. He was followed by Matt Prater, then Tim Tebow and Daniel Graham walked out together.

U2′s “Where the Streets Have No Name” marked the official start of camp, as the air horn blew and players headed to individual drills.

With music blaring and cheers of “TEE-BOW!” “CHAMP!” and “ED-DEE!” ringing out, the team kicked things off.

Friday Practice Report

July 30th, 2010 - 1:07pm by Eric DetweilerOther posts by

The Broncos closed the early report portion of training camp with a workout Friday morning, while welcoming first-round pick Tim Tebow to his first professional training camp.

Youngsters and select veterans went through their fourth “opportunity practice” without pads on a sunny morning at Dove Valley in a final chance to impress coaches and learn the system before full-team workouts begin. The players are off this afternoon before veterans report to the facility tomorrow in advance of Sunday morning’s first full-team practice.

Full-squad training camp workouts, most of which are open and free to the public, kick off Sunday at 8:45 am.

In other words, the level of physicality and competition is about to go up very quickly.

Thursday Afternoon Practice Report

July 29th, 2010 - 4:15pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos completed their second practice of the day Thursday afternoon — essentially a walkthrough.

The majority of the session was spent in individual position drills, where the rookies and early-reporting veterans ran through plays as if it were a full-team drill during training camp.

“We have 38 players, which is close to half of the roster,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “It is not enough for us, though, to get out there and run a lot of team plays together.”

Thursday Morning Practice Report

July 29th, 2010 - 12:56pm by Eric DetweilerOther posts by

The Broncos returned to the Dove Valley practice field on a bright and sunny Thursday morning for the first of two workouts today for early reporting players.

During the opportunity practice that lasted roughly an hour, coaches emphasized teaching for the rookies, quarterbacks and select veterans who took the field for the second straight day.

Once again, the team’s thin numbers at certain positions meant coaching assistants and members of the team’s equipment crew had to fill in to help out during certain drills.

The team returns to the practice field this afternoon at 3 p.m.

FUNDAMENTAL FOCUS:

The defensive coaches made a special point to concentrate on the little things during the workout, focusing on positioning and technique with the young players. Defensive coordinator Don Martindale, secondary coach Ed Donatell and assistant linebackers coach Roman Phifer stressed pre-snap stance and knowing assignments during a 7-on-7 walk-through against coaches and equipment staff.

At one point, Martindale urged players to “Show off your athleticism. Don’t just be waist-benders.”

Later during a short 11-on-11 period, Martindale counseled Cassius Vaughn after the young cornerback committed an apparent pass interference penalty against Patrick Honeycutt.

On the next play, Vaughn drew Martindale’s praise as he shadowed Kenny McKinley on a sideline pass that fell incomplete.

Wednesday Practice Report

July 28th, 2010 - 4:37pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Dove Valley is back open for business.

Rookies and early-reporting veterans took to the practice field Wednesday in shorts and shells — no pads — for the first “opportunity practice” of the summer.

The group included all seven signed 2010 draft picks, including Eric Decker, who saw his first extended action during practice. The veterans in action were Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, Darcel McBath, Kenny McKinley, Marquez Branson, Nick Greisen, Russ Hochstein, Kolby Smith, Britton Colquitt, Ryan Harris, J.J. Arrington, Lance Ball and Bruce Hall.

There was a notable difference on the team’s practice jerseys — a patch with the logo for the HealthONE Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. In addition to the patch, HealthONE will donate one dollar to the Rocky Mountain Children’s Health Foundation for every fan that attends training camp.

Day 21 Blog

August 20th, 2009 - 4:40pm by Zach EisendrathOther posts by

The Broncos concluded training camp with a roughly two-hour practice session on Thursday afternoon at Dove Valley.

For the last day of camp, the team couldn’t have asked for better weather as temperatures stayed in the mid-70′s for most of the practice — getting a bit warmer at the conclusion of the session — and there wasn’t a cloud in sight.

Donning shorts and shells for its final practice before departing for Seattle, the club worked extensively on 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 situations.
