Defensive Plays of the Year Rundown

February 12th, 2013 - 12:13pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Top 10 Tuesday is upon us again, and this week Broncos TV is counting down the top defensive plays of the season.

So far, we’ve seen the top 10 Peyton Manning touchdown passes, Von Miller plays and offensive highlights.

Next week’s video will be a little different — the best pregame sound from the season, not exactly in a top 10 countdown format.

So without further ado, let’s get to the top 10, as we saw it.

10: Champ Bailey’s revenge pick
With the Broncos taking on the Bengals, wide receiver A.J. Green found a little success against Bailey, including a touchdown. But with Cincinnati driving to possibly take the lead, Bailey made up for the touchdown and grabbed an Andy Dalton pass in front of Green for an interception. The turnover allowed Denver to take a 31-20 lead late in the fourth quarter.

9: Mike Adams’ Carolina safety
The defensive performance in Carolina was arguably the Broncos’ best all season. When Adams sacked Cam Newton in the end zone for a safety, it marked the team’s seventh sack and was the second defensive score of the game.

Broncos TV Highlights Top Offensive Plays of 2012

February 5th, 2013 - 10:02am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

So far, Top 10 Tuesdays have brought us Peyton Manning’s Top 10 Touchdown Passes and Von Miller’s Top Ten Plays.

This Tuesday, Broncos TV is taking a look at the best offensive plays of the season.

Here’s a look at what the list is bringing to the table.

10: Joel Dreessen’s tip drill
Against his former team, Dreessen pulled the Broncos to within six points of the Houston Texans late in the fourth quarter with his alert touchdown grab. Peyton Manning fired a pass toward Eric Decker, but Texans defenders closed quickly and the ball popped into the air — and into the waiting arms of Dreessen for the tip-drill touchdown.

9: Mitch Unrein’s touchdown catch
Lined up at fullback, Unrein — a defensive tackle — got the chance all big men dream of. Instead of blocking, he ran a quick route and Manning found him for a wide open touchdown. Unrein’s spike in celebration might have shaken the entire stadium.

Broncos TV Looks at Miller’s Top Plays

January 29th, 2013 - 1:11pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Top Ten Tuesdays continues today with a look at linebacker Von Miller’s best plays of the 2012 season.

It’s the second Top 10 Broncos TV has put together this offseason, following a look at Peyton Manning’s Top 10 touchdown passes last week.

Here’s a look at the order we came up with for Miller’s top plays of a season in which he set the franchise’s new single-season sack record.

10: Miller sacks Matt Ryan in the fourth quarter
Down 27-14 with the Broncos in the midst of a fourth-quarter comeback, the Denver defense had Atlanta in a third-and-5 at its own 25-yard line. Miller made sure that drive ended quickly, and his 11-yard sack of Ryan forced a three-and-out and gave the Broncos a chance to continue their comeback effort.

9: Miller strip-sacks Carson Palmer
Up 16-7 in the third quarter on Thursday Night Football, Miller and the Broncos defense had no interest in allowing Oakland to get back in the game. On a third down, Miller didn’t even let the Raiders go three-and-out. He went ahead and got the ball back on third down instead of fourth, sacking Palmer and forcing a fumble that was recovered by defensive tackle Mitch Unrein.

Broncos TV Counts Down Manning’s Top TD Passes

January 22nd, 2013 - 10:04am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Today on DenverBroncos.com, we began a new series titled “Top 10 Tuesdays,” where we will count down the top 10 plays in various categories over the next five weeks.

The first list looked at Peyton Manning’s top 10 touchdown passes of the season.

Here’s the order we came up with:

10: Manning’s 400th TD pass and first as a Bronco vs. Pittsburgh
In Denver’s season opener against Pittsburgh, Manning hit Demaryius Thomas on a screen pass and the wideout raced 71 yards to the end zone for the score that put Denver ahead 14-13 in the game it would go on to win 31-19. The pass marked Manning’s longest of the season.

9: Manning to Decker for a 51-yard TD at Baltimore
Manning hit Eric Decker in stride on a 51-yard bomb to put the Broncos ahead 31-3 against the Ravens in Week 15.

8: Manning to Stokley for a 38-yard TD vs. Houston
In the fourth quarter against the Houston Texans in Week 3, Manning went over the middle to Brandon Stokley, who made the 38-yard catch over the Texans’ safety. The score started Denver’s comeback, but the Broncos would end up losing the game 31-25.

7: Manning to Decker for an 11-yard TD vs. Kansas City
Manning found a narrow window between the cornerback and the safety to hit Decker for an 11-yard scoring strike in the regular-season finale. The play put Denver ahead 14-3 in the game that it would win by a final score of 38-3 to earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs.
