SI Cover: Tebow!

December 14th, 2011 - 9:14am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Just three weeks ago, Tim Tebow and the Broncos were featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Now the second-year quarterback, who is 7-1 as a starter this season, has made the cover again.

The cover story
, written by Jim Trotter, is titled “The Power of the Possible.”

“Tim Tebow has led the Broncos from 1-4 to the division lead with the craziest, most unlikely eight-week run in NFL history,” reads the description of the article. “It’s taken clutch playmaking, a newly stout defense and, most of all, unwavering belief.”

Broncos Stay Grounded

December 7th, 2011 - 5:47pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

Having won five games in a row, and six of their last seven, the Denver Broncos have garnered increased attention from around the nation as they turned their 1-4 start into a 7-5 record.

But despite the additional intensity from outside sources, the team hasn’t let it become a distraction.

“For me, (I want) to consistently be motivated and come out here and work extremely hard and not worry about everything else on the outside — whatever good or bad is said,” quarterback Tim Tebow said. “Just let that be on the outside and focus on things I can control and come in here being a great teammate, work as hard as I can and try to get a little bit better.”

Bears Coach Smith Praises Tebow

December 7th, 2011 - 4:34pm by Max HensonOther posts by

Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith doesn’t bother concerning himself with the future.

In a conference call earlier today, he said he prefers to stay focused on the here and now.

This Sunday, Smith’s team travels to Denver to take on the Broncos and quarterback Tim Tebow, who’s helped string together five straight victories.

And at the moment, Smith has been impressed with what Tebow’s brought to the Denver offense.

“He’s leading his team to victories,” Smith said of Tebow. “When you’re the starting quarterback in the NFL and you’ve led your team to five wins in a row, you’re doing something pretty good. From what I’ve seen, people tend to keep looking a year down the way, two years down the way. They ought to just live in the moment.”

“I see someone that is getting it right now.”

Elway Happy with Tebow

December 6th, 2011 - 4:42pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow got another stamp of approval from Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway Tuesday.
On DenverBroncos.com’s weekly show ‘Elway Live’, Elway said he is pleased with the way Tebow has progressed.

“I’m very happy with it,” Elway said. “The whole staff is very happy. The team is very happy. Over the seven games he’s started, we’ve won six of those and we’ve won in a lot of different ways.”

Sunday’s victory against the Minnesota Vikings turned out to be another way Tebow and the Broncos pulled out a win: via a shootout.

Broncos Strike Back

December 4th, 2011 - 1:25pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

Just one play after Minnesota retook and eight-point lead, the Broncos answered with a touchdown of their own as Minnesota now leads 22-21 with 2:44 left in the third quarter.

After Quan Cosby’s 63-yard kickoff return to Minnesota’s 41-yard line, quarterback Tim Tebow scrambled left, thought about running, then just as he was about to go out-of-bounds, he hit a wide open Demaryius Thomas. Thomas turned upfield, put on an ankle-breaking juke move and churned into the end zone for his second touchdown of the day.

Broncos Score to Open Half

December 4th, 2011 - 1:04pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

The Broncos marched down the field to start the second half, finishing the drive with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Tim Tebow to Demaryius Thomas to make the score 15-14 in favor of the Vikings.

Denver reeled off chunks of yards out of the gates, gaining 10+ yards on the first four plays of the possession. Tebow connected with Eric Decker for a 17-yard completion to start the drive. Willis McGahee followed with runs of 11, 14, then 9 yards to take the Broncos to the Vikings 36-yard line.

Lance Ball then picked up five yards on a third-and-1 carry. The Broncos scored on another third-down conversion when Tebow connected with Thomas in the back corner of the end zone. It is the ninth touchdown pass of the season for Tebow and the second touchdown catch of the year for Thomas.

Notebook: Five Broncos Popular for Pro Bowl

December 1st, 2011 - 4:45pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

With a little less than three weeks remaining in Pro Bowl fan voting, Broncos fans are making their voices heard.

Five Broncos are among the top five vote-getters at their respective positions in the AFC — cornerback Champ Bailey, punter Britton Colquitt, safety Brian Dawkins, linebacker Von Miller and quarterback Tim Tebow.

Four of those five players were among the top five in mid-November, and Bailey has since joined that list.

It would mark the first Pro Bowl selection for Colquitt, Miller and Tebow, the ninth trip for Dawkins and the 11th for Bailey.

Voting is still open, and will end on Dec. 19 at the conclusion of the Monday Night Football matchup between the Steelers and 49ers.

The teams will be announced at 5 p.m. MST on a special NFL Total Access 2012 Pro Bowl Selection Show on NFL Network.

The game will be played on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012.

The Tebow Phenomenon

December 1st, 2011 - 1:26pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

I have been with the Denver Broncos for 34 years and in pro sports for 37, and in that extensive time span I have seen a lot.

People often ask, “Have you ever seen anything like this before?” The answer is no, and I always add that the reason for this is not that I have not been paying attention—it is just that no one has seen anything like this before.

I am not going to sit here at this keyboard and pretend to project accomplishment and development—we do not know the future other than to say it sure looks positive right now.

Notebook: Ball Security

November 30th, 2011 - 4:14pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

Since quarterback Tim Tebow took over as the starter in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins, he has helped the team win five of its last six games.

A big reason the wins keep stacking up is that the Broncos have been protecting the football. Tebow has just two turnovers in those six games, while the offense as a whole has just five — three of which came in a 45-10 loss to the Lions.

“We’re holding our livelihood when we have the football, so we want to take care of it no matter who has it because we know that we want to end every series by kicking the ball — whether that’s a punt, an extra point, or a field goal,” Tebow said. “That’s our goal because we have a great defense, and if we can put them in good situations, we know it’s going to be pretty hard for a team that drives 70-80 yards against them.”
