Broncos vs. Dolphins: Third Quarter Notes

November 2nd, 2008 - 4:43pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: The Dolphins won the coin toss to start the game and chose to defer to the second half. So Miami will get the ball to start the second half.

Ted Ginn, Jr. takes the kickoff and sprints forward for 41 yards. The Dolphins begin their drive on their own 41-yard line.

14:51: The first-down pass from Chad Pennington is intended for Greg Camarillo, but it’s just out of his reach and it’s almost intercepted by Dre’ Bly.

14:37: Nate Webster makes a tackle on Ronnie Brown on second down, and the Dolphins face third-and-6. Pennington is in the shotgun and tries to find Anthony Fasano in the middle of the field. Jamie Winborn is there to break up the pass, and Brandon Fields is out to punt for Miami.

Eddie Royal is back for the return, but he waves everyone off as the punt goes out of bounds. The referee signals that the punt went out of bounds at the two-yard line, and Denver will begin its first drive of the second half pinned back near its own endzone.

13:51: Jay Cutler fakes a handoff to Michael Pittman and rolls out to his right on a misdirection play and finds Peyton Hillis — the exact same play the Broncos ran earlier in the game. Hillis turns the corner again and leaps entirely over a defender before being pushed out of bounds after 11 yards.

Eddie Royal was injured on the play — it looked like he might have been poked in the eye — and he’s walking off the field under his own power.

INJURY UPDATE: Boss and Champ Bailey will not return to the game.

13:20: The Patriots face third-and-one at their own 38. Green-Ellis picks up the first down.

15:00: Matt Prater is ready to kick the ball away to start the second half of this Week 6 matchup. The Broncos are losing the turnover battle right now, but they’re still only trailing by three points. The offense will be looking to regain some of the mojo it showed in the first drive of the game — a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive.

Troy Williamson is back for the Jaguars, and AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 5 booms the ball to the back of the endzone. Touchback.

Maurice Jones-Drew is in the backfield for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ first play of the second half, but David Garrard looks to his left and finds a receiver on the left sideline instead. He follows that up with a 27-yard first-down pass to tight end Marcedes Lewis. First-and-10 for Jacksonville at the Denver 46-yard line.

13:56: Timeout, Jacksonville. Its first of the half. After play resumes, Jones-Drew takes the handoff, finds a small gap up the middle of the line and bursts his way past his chasing defenders — 46 yards into the endzone. Josh Scobee’s point after is through the uprights and the Jaguars lead it, 17-7.

That was a three-play, 80-yard touchdown drive for the Jaguars.

Broncos vs. Buccaneers: Third Quarter Notes

October 5th, 2008 - 3:37pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: The Buccaneers will receive to start the second half. First-and-10 at their own 20.

Graham carries the ball around the right end for a 14-yard gain and a quick first down.

14:30: They have less success on the following play, however, as Dewayne Robertson stuffs Graham in the hole for barely one-yard.

13:20: It’s third-and-four from the 40. Griese is in the shotgun. He hits Bryant just past the first down marker.

12:40: The Bucs have gotten several quick first downs to start the second half, the most recent on a Griese-to-Alex Smith connection.

15:00: Novak kicks off to Hall, who takes it out to the 35-yard line, and that’s where Cutler and the offense will take the field for the first drive of the second half.

14:20: Hall carries the ball twice for short gains, and now it’s third-and-five at the 40.

13:40: Cutler hits Royal down the left side for 28 yards to the Chiefs’ 32.

13:08: After an incomplete pass that was ruled as a rush for no yards and fumble, it’s second-and-16 from the 37. Cutler fires into the endzone for Royal, but it sails incomplete.

12:30: Cutler hits Pittman in the flats for a short gain, and Prater comes out to attempt a 51-yarder to tie it up. It’s good, and the score is tied at 13.

15:00: The Broncos are back to receive the ball, as New Orleans won the coin toss and received to start the game. It’s a 22-yard return for Peyton Hillis and the Broncos have a first-and-10 at the 30.

14:24: An incomplete pass and a two-yard run make it third-and-8 for the Broncos. Jay Cutler steps back and tries to find Brandon Marshall near the sideline but throws it low, and Marshall can’t quite dive for it. Brett Kern is out to punt it away. New Orleans tries a block formation and the Broncos do a good job of blocking for the 49-yard punt. Bush is back for the return and he finds some space near the sideline and brings it back to the New Orleans 36.

13:58: Drew Brees finds his fullback, Mike Karney, who is tackled by D.J. Williams after a one-yard gain. Williams amkes another big hit on second down, taking down receiver Lance Moore immediately after he caught the ball, bringing up a third-and-6 for the Saints.

12:39: Elvis Dumervil beat his man off the line and he and Jarvis Moss collapse in on Brees as he lets the ball go — over his receiver, being covered by Champ Bailey.

The resulting punt goes into the endzone after Eddie Royal lets it go over his head, and the Broncos will have a first-and-10 from the 20.

15:00: The Chargers are back to receive after the Broncos took the kickoff to start the game. Darren Sproles takes it out and finds a hole again before being knocked out of bounds by Champ Bailey at the San Diego 41.

14:54: On first-and-10 Sproles takes it up the middle for five yards before running into his own man. On second-and-5, Sproles takes it again up the middle for 15 yards.

13:27: On first-and-10, Rivers is knocked down by Elvis Dumervil as he slings it toward the sideline to avoid a sack. Rivers is in shotgun on second-and-10 and finds Vincent Jackson for a quick two-yard pickup to the Denver 37. He’s brought down by Champ Bailey.

12:50: On third-and-8, San Diego calls its first timeout of the second half. A quick update: Cutler threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. He currently has a quarterback rating of 129.3.

Broncos at Raiders: Third Quarter Notes

September 8th, 2008 - 10:01pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: The Raiders receive to start the second half. The Prater kickoff falls through Higgins’ hands in the back of the endzone, touchback.

14:26: The Raiders grab a first down on a 14-yard pass to Ronald Curry. They’re at their own 37. Russell drops back to pass and hands it off to Darrenn McFadden, who rushes for eight yards on first down.

13:17: Darren McFadden grabs a Raiders first down and the crowd is cheering again. First-and-10 from the Oakland 49, and Justin Griffith catches a 10-yard pass for another first down at the Denver 41.

11:51: Nate Webster and Jamie Winborn blow up Darren McFadden as he tries to turn the corner on the left side. It’s a one-yard gain to bring up 2nd-and-nine. John Engelberger blows up the play after another short run by McFadden. Third-and-seven.

10:32: An incomplete pass on third down brings out Lechler for another punt. Royal fields it at the eight-yard line, and the Broncos offense jogs out to begin their first drive of the second half.

Broncos at Cardinals: Third Quarter Notes

August 29th, 2008 - 9:46pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: Prater is set to kickoff to Morey and Urban.

Urban takes it five-yards deep in the endzone and kneels for a touchback. Cardinals will start at their 20, and Brian St. Pierre is now in at quarterback.

14:07: After two incomplete passes and a short run, the Cardinals are forced to punt after gaining just three yards. Marquay McDaniel is back deep to receive the punt. McDaniel takes it at the 29 and advances it five yards before being taken down. Hackney leads the Broncos back onto the field, starting at their own 34.

13:24: Alridge is still carrying the load, taking another rush up the middle for nine yards before being taken down.

12:20: Alridge had another solid gain around the left end, but a holding penalty wiped it out, giving the Broncos a 2nd-and-20 from their own 36.

11:46: Alridge got another touch, this one a screen from Hackney that goes for eight yards. After a false start penalty on Chad Mustard, the Broncos faced a third-and-long but couldn’t complete a pass. Kern comes back out for another punt. Kern kicks 39 yards, and the ball is fair-caught at the Arizona 22.

Broncos vs. Packers: Third Quarter Notes

August 22nd, 2008 - 8:44pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: Clifford Russell and Glenn Martinez back deep for the second-half kickoff. It doesn’t look like we’ll see the starters anymore, as Marshall and Champ just now came out of the tunnel without pads on. I have not even spotted Cutler yet.

14:55: Martinez takes the kickoff out to the 20, and Ramsey does indeed come out onto the field to lead the offense. Marquand Manuel was shaken up on the kickoff, but he just got up and is walking off the field.

13:48: Ramsey gets hit as he throws on third-and-seven, and the pass is batted down by Aaron Kampman. Kern comes out to punt and he booms it 59 yards. But Kern’s long punt amounted to little, as Blackmon returns it 43 yards to the Denver 40.
