Practice Squad Additions

December 24th, 2008 - 12:38pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

The Broncos have added a pair of players to the practice squad, Head Coach Mike Shanahan has just announced.

Running back Steve Baylark is back with the squad after spending a week with the team from December 10-17 before being waived.

Baylark entered the NFL with the Cardinals in 2007 as a college free agent from the University of Massachusetts, where he became just the third Division I-AA player to post four 1,000-yard rushing seasons. A second-team All-American as a senior at UMass, he finished his collegiate career with 1,080 rushes for 5,199 yards with 42 touchdowns.

New to the practice squad is wide receiver Matt Willis. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound receiver began this season on Baltimore’s practice squad before he was waived on Sept. 16. He saw time on both the Ravens’ practice squad and active roster as a rookie in 2007, appearing in five games for the year and totaling one catch for 11 yards along with two special-teams tackles.

The Ravens signed Willis in 2007 as a college free agent from UCLA, where he played two seasons of football after competing on the Bruins’ track team. He played 21 career games at UCLA, posting 24 receptions for 248 yards with three touchdowns.

And linebacker Tyson Smith, who has been on the practice squad for the last seven weeks, was signed to the Washington Redskins’ active roster.

Putzier Back in Denver

December 10th, 2008 - 10:50am by Adam ZinserOther posts by

It’s only Wednesday, but it’s already been a busy week for the Broncos, personnel-wise. After all the transactions Tuesday, more have taken place this morning.

The Broncos have signed tight end Jeb Putzier, Head Coach Mike Shanahan has announced. To make room for him on the roster, the team waived safety Herana-Daze Jones.

Putzier began his NFL career in Denver in 2002 and stayed with the Broncos until 2005. He spent the following two season with the Texans before joining the Seahawks in 2008. He saw action in six games for Seattle before being waived.

In 67 career games, Putzier has totaled 96 receptions for 1,251 yards with three touchdowns. He also has appeared in three career postseason games, posting 10 receptions for 159 yards with one touchdown.

The tight end will wear No. 87 for the Broncos.

The team also signed running back Steve Baylark to the practice squad. A second-year player out of the University of Massachusetts, Baylark has yet to see action in any regular season games, though he has played against the Broncos twice in the preseason with the Arizona Cardinals.

At UMass, Baylark became just the third Division I-AA player to post four 1,000-yard rushing seasons. A second-team All-American as a senior, Baylark finished his collegiate career with 1,080 carries for 5,199 yards with 42 touchdowns.
