Broncos vs. Chiefs: Second Quarter Notes

December 7th, 2008 - 12:50pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: The Chiefs will face a third-and-one at their 29-yard line to start the second quarter. Tyler Thigpen has Larry Johnson behind him, he gives to Johnson who gets the first down.

14:30: After the first down, Thigpen looks down the sideline for Tony Gonzalez, but rookie Josh Barrett has him covered. Incomplete and Barrett lets everyone know about it.

Second down, Thigpen throws it right to Wesley Woodyard, looks like he fumbled after the catch and the Broncos recover. But did he have possession? The refs say yes, but Herm Edwards says no. We will have another challenge. Josh Bell made the recovery for the Broncos, but it remains to be seen if Woodyard has possession before he fumbled.

INJURY UPDATE: Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles has an ankle injury and is questionable to return.

Broncos vs. Jets: Second Quarter Notes

November 30th, 2008 - 1:14pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Second down Jets to start the second quarter. Thomas Jones gets a big chunk to start off the quarter and the Jets face a manageable third-and-one… They convert the first down as Brett Favre hits Chris Baker.

13:30: Favre with the quick pass to Jerricho Cotchery to the Broncos 29-yard line. 15-yard gain on that quick strike. On first down, the Broncos thought they had Thomas Jones down, but Jones gets back up and into the endzone. This might be challenged. And it is…

From these eyes, Jones rolled over Peterson and it looks like his elbow hit the ground. Problem is, “looks like” is not indisputable evidence. We shall see what Walt Coleman sees…

Well Coleman disagrees with me and the Jets have scored. Weird, weird game.

Jones touchdown run covered 29 yards. Jones has nine carries for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Jay Feely hits the PAT, and the Jets are back within a field goal.

Broncos 17 – Jets 14, 12:44 remaining.

Broncos vs. Raiders: Second Quarter Blog

November 23rd, 2008 - 3:32pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: It’s first-and-goal for the Broncos from the four-yard line, but the Raiders have elected to challenge the previous play. They say Darrell Jackson was down by contact before he got up and sprinted to the four.

The ruling is overturned — an Oakland defender placed a hand on Jackson’s back just as his knee was touching the ground, so it’s still a first down for the offense, but it’s back 36 yards. First-and-10 on the Oakland 40-yard line. It’s a 28-yard reception for Jackson.

Just a quick note: the Raiders had one first down in the first quarter. The Broncos had eight.

15:00: OK, the game is back on and Cutler tries to get a pass to Eddie Royal near the right sideline but it’s intercepted. Chris Johnson returns the ball all the way toward the end zone, and starts strutting at the 10-yard line, holding the ball out. Royal chases him down and almost slaps the ball out of his hand but he falls into the endzone for a touchdown.

There’s a flag on the play, however. Holding on Johnson before the pass was thrown — first down for the Broncos at the Oakland 35-yard line.

Broncos vs. Falcons: Second Quarter Notes

November 16th, 2008 - 10:08am by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Falcons start the second quarter with a first down at the Broncos 36-yard line… Great play by Dre’ Bly as he trips up Michael Turner for a 4-yard loss.

14:00: On third down Ryan scrambles in and out of the pocket and hits Michael Jenkins for the first down. Ryan may have been beyond the line of scrimmage, and looks like Head Coach Mike Shanahan wants the officials to take another look at it.

As those of you who watched last Sunday night’s Giants and Eagles game know, all parts of the body must be beyond the line of scrimmage for it to be an illegal forward pass.

After review, the call on the field stands, Ryan was not beyond the line of scrimmage. First down Falcons at the Broncos 20-yard line.

Broncos vs. Browns: Second Quarter Notes

November 6th, 2008 - 5:16pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: The Browns start the second quarter with a first down at their 45-yard line.

Jerome Harrison gains 16 yards then 13 yards and the Browns are in business at the Broncos 26.

13:57: After a first down incompletion, Lewis takes it up the middle and is horse collared down by Jamie Winborn. Flags quickly fly and the Browns have the ball at the 11-yard line.

13:00: Lewis gets 4-yards on the next play and then Quinn misses to Braylon Edwards and Steve Heiden. On comes Phil Dawson who burries a 24-yard field goal giving the Browns a 10-7 lead.

Broncos vs. Dolphins: Second Quarter Notes

November 2nd, 2008 - 3:50pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: Third-and-3 for the Dolphins on their own 43-yard line. Chad Pennington takes the snap, drops back and is leveled by a leaping Ebenezer Ekuban. Ekuban looked like he came out of nowhere, flying through the air and clobbering Pennington for a six-yard sack.

Eddie Royal is back deep to field the Brandon Fields punt. The crowd is chanting “Eddie, Eddie, Eddie” as Royal fields the punt and turns upfield, picking up 16 yards to the 25-yard line.

14:11: First-and-10 Denver. Jay Cutler finds Peyton Hillis near the right sideline for six yards. Now Cutler is in shotgun on second-and-4. He finds Darrell Jackson down the middle of the field, complete all the way to the Miami 46-yard line. It’s a 23-yard reception.

12:53: Cutler’s pass to Hillis on first down is incomplete. The second-down play is a handoff to Michael Pittman up the middle, and he picks up a quick two yards before being brought down.

That brings up third-and-8 for the offense. Cutler is in the shotgun formation with Pittman to his left. Daniel Graham goes in motion from right to left, and Cutler takes the snap. He’s sacked by Joey Porter, the NFL’s sack leader coming into this week.

After the two-yard sack, Brett Kern is out to punt away to Davone Bess, who fields the punt for the Dolphins at their own nine-yard line after a fair catch was signaled.

Broncos at Patriots: Second Quarter Notes

October 20th, 2008 - 7:16pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: The Patriots have a first-and-10 at their own 31.

Cassel finds Welker open on a crossing route, hitting him at the sideline for a gain of eight.

14:35: Morris gets another carry, rumbling through some would-be tackles for a gain of 20. The Patriots move into Denver territory.

14:00: Nate Webster comes on a blitz and takes down Cassel for the sack, dropping him for a one-yard loss.

12:50: It’s third-and-five after another Morris run. D.J. Williams comes on a blitz up the middle and takes down Cassel for the sack. It’s a loss of eight yards. Jarvis Moss assisted on the sack.

Chris Hanson out to punt for the Pats. Royal calls for the fair-catch at the 10.

Broncos vs. Jaguars: Second Quarter Notes

October 12th, 2008 - 2:40pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: The Jaguars have a second-and-2 from their own 29-yard line when play resumes.

David Garrard has a good amount of time in the pocket after he drops back, then launches a pass downfield to Troy Williamson, who hauls it in inside the Broncos 10-yard line. But there’s a flag on the play in the backfield — Khalif Barnes was holding Elvis Dumervil, which explains some of the pocket time Garrard was blessed with on that play. Second-and-12 for the Jags.

14:00: A quick pass from Garrard sets up a third-and-3 for Jacksonville, and he takes the snap in the shotgun. He tries to find Dennis Northcutt at the first-down marker, but Nate Webster is right there for the pass breakup. Glenn Martinez is back to return the Jacksonville punt.

Martinez finds a lot of room, avoiding the first round of tacklers and then weaving his way through the Jacksonville coverage unit. He starts his way across the field to the near sideline and it looks like he may have something before a diving Jaguar trips him up by the shoelaces. There’s a flag on the play, however — a Jaguar was out of bounds at the start of the kick, so five yards are tacked on to the return, setting up a first-and-10 for the Broncos at their own 41.

Broncos vs. Buccaneers: Second Quarter Notes

October 5th, 2008 - 2:40pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: It’s still unclear if Denver will go for it, punt or attempt a long field goal. From here, it would be a 54-yard field goal attempt.

Matt Prater comes out onto the field to attempt what is actually a 55-yard field goal from the left hash, and it’s good.

The Broncos have tied it up, 3-3.

14:56: Prater kicks off, and it goes through the endzone for the touchback.

14:00: It’s third-and-seven after a short run by Dunn. Griese finds Clayton across the middle, and he’s taken down by Boss Bailey after an eight-yard gain just past the first-down marker.

13:30: Griese is sacked by Ebenezer Ekuban for an eight-yard loss.

Broncos at Chiefs: Second Quarter Notes

September 28th, 2008 - 11:38am by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: Johnson gains six yards, getting the first down. First-and-10 from the Denver 26.

14:20: Johnson catches a screen from Huard, and Boss Bailey reads the play perfectly, tackling Johnson for a seven-yard loss. Third-and-17 at the Denver 33.

A false start penalty on Damion McIntosh and a delay of game penalty back the Chiefs up five more yards. Third-and-22 from the Denver 38.

13:00: Huard completes his pass to Will Franklin for five yards, and out comes Novak to attempt a 48-yard field goal. It sails wide right. The Broncos take over at their own 38-yard line.
