Broncos Win Coin Toss

November 18th, 2012 - 2:27pm by Sam DavisOther posts by

The Broncos won the coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half, so they will start the game on defense.

Representing the team at midfield were the captains: quarterback Peyton Manning, defensive end Elvis Dumervil, cornerback Champ Bailey, linebacker Wesley Woodyard, and today’s game captain, cornerback Chris Harris.

Kicker Matt Prater put the Chargers at their own 20-yard line after sending the opening kick through the end zone for a touchback.

On defense, the Broncos come out with four down linemen – defensive end Elvis Dumervil, tackles Kevin Vickerson and Justin Bannan, and defensive end Derek Wolfe.

Von Miller, Wesley Woodyard and Keith Brooking start as the linebackers.

Champ Bailey and Harris start at the corners with Rahim Moore and Mike Adams at the safety positions.

Following a Chargers punt, the Broncos offense comes out on the field.

The starters on the offensive line, from left to right, are tackle Ryan Clady, guard Zane Beadles, center Dan Koppen, guard Manny Ramirez and tackle Orlando Franklin.

Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker start at each wide receiver position with Joel Dreessen at tight end and Brandon Stokley in the slot.

Manning is under center with Willis McGahee in the backfield.

Honoring the Military

November 17th, 2012 - 11:39am by Von MillerOther posts by

We’re recognizing a special cause this week with our military appreciation game at Sports Authority Field.

It means a lot to me to support our troops. A lot of guys put their lives on the line and go out and fight for us. Some football players look at playing football like a battle, but if we lose, we just go home. If they lose, they lose their lives.

We have a lot of appreciation for those guys. It’ll be great to honor them this weekend.

We were only allowed to put one branch’s decal on the outside of our helmet, but each branch is important for us, so I put the Marines sticker on the outside and the other four inside my helmet.

Chargers Week: Friday Injury Report

November 16th, 2012 - 2:31pm by Tyler EverettOther posts by

On Friday, Head Coach John Fox said that defensive end Elvis Dumervil was a limited participant in Friday’s practice and that the team has not decided whether Dumervil will play Sunday against San Diego.

“He was limited,” Fox said. “I think we’ll play it day to day and I’m sure we probably won’t have a final decision until about an hour and a half before kickoff.”

Dumervil is listed as questionable for Sunday’s contest.

“We want what’s in the player’s best interest as far as safety and his career moving forward,” Fox said. “If they deem him capable of playing, he’ll play. He’s obviously earned that and he’s a guy that’s a valuable part of our defense.”

Below are the injury reports for Denver and San Diego after Friday’s practices.

Rematch Week

November 15th, 2012 - 5:16pm by Eric DeckerOther posts by

Well, it’s rematch week for the first time this season. San Diego heads to our place this time around. I think as far as the game goes, we’ve both seen schematically kind of what we do, but there are always adjustments that need to be made. A division game is always a game that’s important. I think our focus is one game at a time. This is our focus. This is our one game that we’ve got to go out and win.

Looking back at the last time we played San Diego, we got beat 24-0 in the first half and scored 35 in the second half to win. Going into this week, I’m thinking more about the second half, for sure. I think just what we did right and how we made plays when they were there and how we were consistent with our jobs individually to collectively be successful.

At the same time, I think it’s important that you learn from history so you don’t repeat it. That’s kind of a slogan where the mistakes you make, you’ve got to call yourself out. If you made a mistake, admit to do it and don’t do it again. Every game you’re going to have mistakes. You’ve just got to find a way to not repeat that mistake.

This week is important because San Diego, they’ve had our number at home. We haven’t for a long time swept them in division play. This is definitely an important game. Division games always place you at a point where you’re able to make the playoffs or not. It’s about winning your division.

We’re definitely looking for all the support we can get at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. I think every week when we come back home off a road trip, it’s nice to have that support. That noise and comfort level of being in front of your hometown fans is definitely welcome.

Catch you next week.

Elway: ‘Pedal to the Metal’

October 23rd, 2012 - 11:02am by Sam DavisOther posts by

There were plenty of positives for the Denver Broncos in their Week 6 comeback win at San Diego, and Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway hit on most of them in this week’s episode of Elway Access, hosted by Broncos TV’s Chris Hall.

Coming out of halftime facing a 24-0 deficit, the Broncos marched 85 yards down the field in eight plays, as quarterback Peyton Manning finished the drive with a 29-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

That drive, followed by cornerback Tony Carter’s 65-yard scoop-and-score off a fumble, were the two biggest factors in shifting the momentum in Denver’s favor, according to Elway.

In the immediate elation of a victory as dramatic as the Broncos’ 35-24 win over the Chargers on Monday night, reverting to hyperbole is both predictable and understandable. By any account, Denver’s win was as amazing as it was improbable.

Calling it the one of the greatest comebacks in Broncos’ history is absolutely accurate.

Monday night, the Broncos tied the franchise record of rallying to win a game in which they trailed by 24 points.

The Broncos also tied the NFL record for largest deficit overcome in a road game.

The Broncos set a team record for most points in a half (35 in the second half).
