August 12th, 2008 - 4:56pm by Jake GrilleyOther posts by

The Broncos closed out their final practice before hosting the Dallas Cowboys for two-straight days of joint practices here at Dove Valley. Here are the highlights from this afternoon’s special team’s only session.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: After seeing action during this morning’s session Peyton Hillis and Chad Mustard were out of uniform joining teammate Louis Green on the sidelines.

POSTURING FOR POSITION: Eddie Royal, Glenn Martinez, Anthony Alridge, Andre Hall, Clifford Russell and Michael Pittman lined up at returner as the team worked on kickoff coverage.

Sam Paulescu and Matt Prater each kicked off during practice. Prater had seen all the kickoff reps thus far in camp.

P.M. Blog: Day 12

August 6th, 2008 - 5:42pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

Though the sun broke through for most of the afternoon practice, it was definitely much cooler than this morning’s session, and thankfully, the dark clouds heading this way held off just long enough for the team to wrap things up and head inside.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Hamza Abdullah, Champ Bailey, Peyton Hillis, Chad Mustard, Tom Nalen and Dewayne Robertson all watched from the sidelines with their various injuries/soreness. Abdullah was doing some calisthenics with out on the field to help rehab his groin before practice began. One end of a large elastic band was wrapped around his waist with the other end tied to one of the goal posts. He high-stepped sideways until the band became fully extended and taught, then would move back towards the goal post.

P.M. Blog: Day 11

August 5th, 2008 - 5:16pm by Jake GrilleyOther posts by

Dark clouds were in the distance as the Broncos hit the practice field for the team’s afternoon special teams session. The mercury was a little lower at Dove Valley with temperatures in the low 60s and a slight wind gust helped to carry punts a few yards further and it just so happened that punting is what the team focused on throughout practice.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Peyton Hillis remained on the sidelines nursing his hamstring injury…Hamza Abdullah was in uniform but wasn’t wearing a helmet, shoulder pads or cleats… The teams typical special teams unit was on the field. Two players of note practicing were Selvin Young and Domonnique Foxworth, on occassion both of these players have received the special teams session off.

A.M. Blog: Day 11

August 5th, 2008 - 12:04pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

After a record-setting streak of days with the temperature above 90 degrees, Tuesday morning brought a much welcomed cool front. When I heard over the radio on the way to Dove Valley that the high was predicted to be 82 degrees, I laughed.

Thankfully, they were right. The players (and I) enjoyed temperatures in the low 70s throughout the morning camp session. And now for quick hits from practice.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Hamza Abdullah remained on the sideline, nursing his strained groin. Peyton Hillis, after making it back onto the field yesterday morning, sat out again. Chad Mustard and Tom Nalen remain out with a right hamstring and left knee, respectively. Montrae Holland continues to work on his own, though he later came out and watched from the sidelines. He looks slimmer to me.

Champ Bailey also missed practice with a sore right hamstring. Bailey spent his time watching from the sidelines with teammates or on the field talking with Head Coach Mike Shanahan. But don’t worry Broncos Country, Shanahan quickly pointed out that No. 24 is a quick healer.

First Depth Chart Released…

August 4th, 2008 - 8:16am by Adam ZinserOther posts by

The team has just officially released the 2008 depth chart. Though things may change over the course of the next few weeks, it provides a glimpse of who will be taking the field on Sundays.

Of note, Ryan Harris starts at right tackle. Not too much of a surprise since he took most of the reps thus far in training camp.

Darrell Jackson holds the number two WR spot across from Brandon Marshall.

Cecil Sapp starts at fullback.

Marcus Thomas will now line up with the ones at defensive tackle.

Nate Webster has taken over the starting MLB spot.

Hamza Abdullah and Marlon McCree take on the starting strong and free safety roles, respectively.

Sam Paulescu and Matt Prater are tops for the punting and kicking duties.

Eddie Royal is the top return man on both punts and kickoffs.

Check out the entire depth chart here.

Let us know what y’all think about this!

Broncos-Vikings: Early Pregame Notes

December 30th, 2007 - 12:28pm by AndrewOther posts by

Random thoughts for an early Sunday afternoon …

… Broncos are back for early pregame warmups in the blue pants, marking the fifth time this year that they’ve worn them. They’re 3-1 this year in the all-blue look and 6-4 all time. This will be just the second time they’ve worn the all-blue look for a daytime regular-season game …

… How does Bengals-Dolphins get a blimp? …

… Memo to Fox: We know that the Patriots defeated the Giants 38-35 last night, so how about using your Game Breaks for other games that are, you know, actually taking place right now? …

… The weather forecast for today here in INVESCO Field at Mile High includes winds that are gusting to 32 miles per hour, which could hinder the advantage the Broncos’ passing game possesses over the Vikings’ 32nd-ranked passing game. The day looks gorgeous, however, with brilliant sunny skies bathing the field in light …

American Idol premieres on Jan. 15, as Fox keeps reminding us. Whoop-de-do … I’ll just watch the two weeks of 320-pound guys with Freddie Mercury moustaches attempting to sing mid-1980s Madonna songs, then move on to something else. At least those two weeks of failed tryouts possess that carnival-freak quality …

… We’re having an extended discussion about satellite radio in the press box …

… Matt Prater just drilled a 65-yard field goal to the north end zonewith a good 10 yards to spare …

… Jason Elam warms up by punting, as always …

… Sam Paulescu drilled a 50-yard punt that bounced and went out of bounds … but then had a 35-yard punt that was low and a 40-yard punt that also was a low line drive. He proceeded to follow those by crushing a 55-yarder.

Smith Facing Likely Hip Surgery

December 28th, 2007 - 12:23pm by AndrewOther posts by

Rod Smith

Rod Smith’s hip hasn’t improved in the two months that followed his brief practice-field foray in late October.

It’s actually gotten worse.

“It feels worse than it ever did before I had surgery,” Smith said Friday. “So pretty much it is not healed. It’s not healing at all. I’ve been through different procedures and been up to Vail several times trying to figure out a way to get it right, and it doesn’t feel right. I took the last six weeks off. I really haven’t worked out or anything, and it feels worse. I wake up in the morning, and I can feel it. I sit down, and I can feel it.”
