Injuries Dominate Conversation in Broncos Locker Room

November 3rd, 2008 - 6:44pm by Jake GrilleyOther posts by

Injury news was running rampant in the Broncos locker room on Monday and players were quick to chime in on what this latest rash of injuries means to the Broncos season.

Hall/ Pittman Done for ’08
The biggest news of the day was the announcement that running backs Andre Hall and Michael Pittman had been placed on the team’s effectively ending their season.

One player that will have to step up in the absence of Hall and Pittman will be running back Ryan Torain who saw his first action as a Bronco against Miami on Sunday.

“It is a rough sport; injuries come and go,” he said. “You just have to stay focused and handle the adversity when it comes.”

100 Percent After the Bye

October 23rd, 2008 - 9:59am by Ryan TorainOther posts by

It’s the bye week, and it couldn’t come at a better time. We’re all ready to go relax, get our minds off football and come back refreshed.

The bye is always great — it gives guys a rest, a chance to get their mind right, just to focus on the next game and get their mind right.

People are going home, seeing their families, hanging out with friends. Want to know what I’m doing?

I’m staying here. Haha.

I’m going to be conditioning, working out with Coach Tuten. But that’s pretty much been the plan since I’ve been hurt, just try to get back to 100 percent so I’ll be able to help the team when my number’s called. So it’s all good.

I’m Back

October 17th, 2008 - 7:05am by Ryan TorainOther posts by

I’m BACK.

And it feels great. It’s been a looooong time. When you add the couple of months I’ve been out here to the fact that I couldn’t play the end of my senior season, it’s about to be a full year since I’ve been on the field for a game. So being back at practice is great. That’s the only word to describe it. Great. I’m excited, just conversing with the guys, being out there, joking around — just having a great time.

I finally got to do it myself. That’s the difference. When you’re watching practice, you envision it and you wish you could do it. When you’re out there, you get to fulfill what you’ve been doing your whole life. And I didn’t get too winded when I was out there the past two days either, and I credit that to the trainers and how hard Coach Tuten’s been helping me condition since the injury.

Another Big Step Toward the Field

October 9th, 2008 - 1:18pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

Another big step this week, everybody. First it was being able to get back to working on my conditioning. Then it was being able to lift weights with my left arm again. Now, it’s something even bigger.

I was at practice yesterday. My first NFL practice, and being a rookie, it felt good, even if I was just watching it go down and not participating yet. I missed practice. It’s been a while since I’ve been in that atmosphere. Watching guys make plays, guys working hard and just playing the game. I just missed that competitiveness. I’m definitely excited to get back, and it’s been great to be back out at practice. Now I’m just kind of taking steps to get back in the flow of things, and hopefully next week I’ll be able to put the cleats on and run around.

Coach Shanahan said there’s a chance I’ll be back out on the practice field making plays on my own starting next week, so I’ve just got to stay working hard with rehab and keep conditioning to make sure it happens. Whenever I get called on, I’ll be ready to go. I can’t wait to get back.

Catching Up With the Family

October 2nd, 2008 - 1:20pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

Kansas City didn’t go as well as we all would have wanted, obviously. But one good thing game out of it — I got to see my family.

I was raised around that area, and the majority of my family is still there, so that was good. Aunts and uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters — I got to see them all. It wasn’t for a long period of time, but it was just good to see them for what little bit of time they had. I took what I got and enjoyed it. Definitely took a lot of pictures.

I know I admitted growing up that some of us were Chiefs fans, but don’t worry it’s not that way anymore. My family is just a football family. My dad’s side is from Baltimore, and a couple of my uncles liked the Chiefs. But everybody’s a Broncos fan now.

Getting My Stamina Back

September 25th, 2008 - 5:59pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

Alright, I’ve got some big news this week:

I started lifting weights with my left arm. I’ve started conditioning and running full speed now, too — I don’t have to be on the treadmill all the time. It definitely gives me a lot more to do now that I’m not just lifting weights with one arm. So I’m starting to take big strides just by getting into the swing of things, getting my stamina up.

I’m getting excited. It’s getting closer every week and I can’t wait to get out there. I can’t wait to start practicing. Then when I step on that game field, it’s going to be something I ain’t never felt before. It’s the NFL, I haven’t played in a game yet, I missed all the preseason games. I’ve just been out here watching. I’ve got a whole bunch of energy balled up and ready to explode, for real. I just can’t wait to get out there.

That Was Huge

September 18th, 2008 - 7:42pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

I know I started out last week’s post with a wow, but I’ve got to do it again.

Wow. That win against the Chargers was huge. It was definitely something I’ve never experienced. It was an amazing feeling from start to finish, and I can’t wait to get out there and give the crowd some emotion — just have some fun out there myself.

I had chills all through my body. It was electrifying. All day I was just so excited for kickoff and for the game to get underway, just to see what was going to happen. And clearly great things happened, now we’ve just got to keep that going.

I’ll tell you fans one thing — you’re loud. It got so loud out there. You were definitely into it, and it was exciting and so much fun. I can’t wait to get out there on the field and do it myself.

What An Experience

September 11th, 2008 - 1:18pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

Wow. Oakland was an experience. It was cool to be in that atmosphere — The Black Hole, rowdy crowd — and then we went out there and played to our ability and got the win. I can’t stress enough what a great experience it was just being out there.

I didn’t catch any batteries to the back of the head, thank goodness, but it was still pretty crazy. I saw a couple fights break out in the crowd, especially when we were walking in for halftime. It was pretty cool. I’m saying, it was really exciting being around that atmosphere, watching the guys make big plays.

The thing I was most excited about was watching Eddie Royal, one of my good friends, being in the same rookie class and all, making plays. I’m just like, “Yeah. That’s what’s up.” It was exciting watching him play. Heck, it was exciting watching EVERYONE play.

Can you tell I’m excited the season is here?

Becoming a Vet

September 4th, 2008 - 1:12pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

So…I’m excited the regular season is here. I mean I wish I could be in it, of course, but I’ve just got to check it out from the sidelines for now. I do a lot of watching, just seeing how people carry themselves during the season.

When I get back out there, I want to be a vet. I don’t want to be a rookie. That’s the goal. I want to be used to it and have gone through it already, so that’s what I’m doing now. I go to all the games, all the away games, and I’m just staying around the team and seeing what they do and how everything goes — how it’s all working out.

This week we’ve got the Raiders. I’m excited to go into that atmosphere. I’ve never been to Oakland, so that’s going to be an experience. It’s the NFL, man. I still get culture shock and sort of nerves when I’m on the field watching everyone warm up. It’s like, “Man…I can’t wait to do it.”

Making Progress

August 28th, 2008 - 9:47am by Ryan TorainOther posts by

I just want to start out by thanking everybody again for your support. And just so you know, my doctor’s appointment last week went great. They told me I could start doing rehab, and that I could take my brace off when I do and get a little rotation in. So I’ve been doing all that since last Thursday.

They still say three months is what I’m looking at, though the goal now is to get back on the field by Week 6 against Jacksonville. I’ve just got to keep working hard, though, because you never can tell the future with an injury. I’ve got to stay on top of my rehab and hopefully I’ll be able to come back sooner.

The elbow is a little tight when I take the brace off and work the rotation, it’s just kind of stiff, but I’m working the little kinks out, so it will be all good.

I’ve started riding the bike, too, and I’m excited about that. It gives me something to do and I feel like I’m staying up on my cardio. With all that going and me still going to all the meetings, I feel like I’m slowly getting back into the groove of things, just being with the team.
