Roderick Rogers Waived

November 25th, 2008 - 4:31pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos on Tuesday waived safety Roderick Rogers, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.

Rogers, a second-year player from the University of Wisconsin, saw time in Denver’s last three games, starting in the team’s most recent loss to the Oakland Raiders. In the three games, he posted six tackles on defense along with two special-teams stops. He spent the first nine weeks of the season on the Broncos practice squad before he was signed to their active roster on Nov. 4.

Rogers to Practice Squad

After waiving Roderick Rogers on Sunday in order to acquire Calvin Lowry, the Broncos re-signed Rogers, but this time to the practice squad.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced the most recent transaction on Monday afternoon, and now all eight spots on the practice squad have been filled.

Rogers joined the Broncos in 2007, his rookie year, and spent the first 15 weeks of the season on the practice squad before being activated for the team’s final two games.

He played in all four of Denver’s preseason games in 2008, tying for fifth on the squad with nine tackles.

Sauerbrun Out; Ernster Back; Ferguson to IR

December 18th, 2007 - 4:01pm by AndrewOther posts by

Another Tuesday brings more moves … including a seismic change on special teams.

Out is Todd Sauerbrun and in is Paul Ernster, marking a reversal of the decision made in August when the Broncos opted for the 13-year veteran Sauerbrun over the 2005 seventh-round draft pick who had held down the punting and kickoff duties throughout 2005 following Sauerbrun’s suspension for violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.

The Broncos also placed Nick Ferguson on injured reserve, promoted safety Roderick Rogers from the practice squad, and waived safety Marviel Underwood.

Sauerbrun’s gross punting average of 46.8 yards ranked second in the AFC behind Oakland’s Shane Lechler and fifth in the NFL overall. However, his net punting average of 36.1 yards was 10th in the conference and 21st in the league. His discrepancy between gross and net averages of 10.7 yards was also the highest in the league.

OTA Day 5: Notes and Photos

OTA Day 5

Guten tag and hello from Dove Valley, where cooler temperatures — 56 degrees as the session began, to be exact — greeted the Broncos as they took the field for the fifth of their 14 organized team activities. Storms have since arrived at team headquarters, and thunder and lightning is crackling through the skies as I type.

Addendum: The practice was truncated by a half-hour as a severe thunderstorm slammed Dove Valley with lightning, thunder and hail.

Notes:

… There’s not too much to note from the 10 minutes of pre-practice warmups. Dre’ Bly returned for a full day of work; wide receiver Glenn Martinez was out of uniform; no one got called in front of the team to do a pre-stretching dance. It was a very quiet start to the on-field work …

… Things haven’t been so quiet at the league’s May owners meetings, currently ongoing in Nashville, Tenn. The venue for Super Bowl XLVI will be announced today, but the league has already released a medical panel’s recommendations to the league on dealing with player concussions and head injuries, the findings of which were presented to owners at the meeting.
