Peyton Hillis Update

January 15th, 2009 - 11:48am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by Gray Caldwell

Saw that some fans on the message board yesterday were wondering about Peyton Hillis’ recovery from his hamstring injury he suffered against the Chiefs.

He’s been hanging around the locker room since he’s at the facilities rehabbing this offseason, and I thought I’d give you all a quick update.

He said everything’s coming along fine, and he’s not too concerned that he is staying in Denver working while many of his teammates are on vacation or home with their families.

“As long as I’m in here getting better, getting stronger, getting faster, there’s really not a problem for me,” he said.

Looking Toward the Holidays

December 18th, 2008 - 2:15pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

Alright, I finally got on top of things. I’ve started shopping for my family.

I’m just kind of looking around, shopping for my mom, my dad, my brothers and sisters and all — friends and family. As I see something I’ll grab it, basically. So that’s been fun.

It feels good to be able to take care of your family a little bit, be able to give back. They’ve been helping me out since I’ve been little, so it’ll be good to see everybody.

As far as what I want for Christmas, I don’t know. Just probably to hang out with my family. I’ve been away for so long, just seeing them will be a good gift for me. Plus I’m excited to give them their gifts.

Speaking of giving gifts, a couple days ago — Tuesday, actually — I went with some of the other rookies to The Sports Authority store to help give some kids some Christmas presents. That was an experience. Each one of them had a gift certificate for 100 dollars, so it was fun to go around and see what they wanted to buy. It’s always good to hang out with the kids. They all have such different personalities, and it’s just good to give back and have a good time with them.

Arizona Showdown

December 4th, 2008 - 3:56pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

It is snowing like crazy right now. Do I like it? Eh, it is what it is, to talk like a coach.

Anyway, this is a big week. The alma mater Arizona State and Arizona are locking up to close out the season.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get that channel and check the game out. It’s a huge rivalry. Both teams are kind of even talent-wise and in wins. It’s going to be an exciting game. If Arizona State wins, I think we’ll get a chance to go to a bowl game and end the season on that good note.

CLEARLY I’m rooting for A-State. Gotta keep representing the Sun Devils. I won’t be talking much to Spencer Larsen this week, and I always give him a little shoulder every time I walk by him. We joke about that Sun Devils - Wildcats rivalry. I haven’t seen him this week. I might have to give him a call and ask how much he wants to bet. I’m just kidding, but you know it’s all about the bragging rights.

Gobble, Gobble

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

I am getting pretty excited, I can’t lie. My mom flew in today and she’s at the store right now. It’s going to be a little different this time around, we usually eat pretty early, but since she just flew in we’re going to have a little bit later of a meal.

Either way, my mouth’s watering thinking about it. We’re going to have everything. Turkey, ham, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, greens — just the whole nine. It’s definitely going to be a good meal.

The late start is making me hungry, but it’s all good. The turkey’s thawed, so we’re going to get that going soon.

Just to update all of you, rehab’s going well. I’m just kind of getting a little rhythm with the basic, whatever you want to call it. The basic rehab routine I guess you could say. It’s just basic treatment — leg lifts, icing, just not that much going on, but just enough to keep my leg strong and help me get healthy.

I guess I’d have to say I’m thankful for a lot of things today.

First and foremost, just being able to celebrate with my family. Living another year, another Thanksgiving — I’m thankful for where I am today.

Happy Holidays and enjoy the food.

Surgery a Success

November 21st, 2008 - 8:07am by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

So I had my surgery yesterday. I did everything they asked me to in terms of my prehab, just doing some quad exercises and trying to keep the leg strong, working with Greek a little bit and always icing it.

Yesterday everything went well, as far as I can tell. I feel good. My leg’s still kind of numb, so I’m just taking a lot of antibiotics and pain killers. I’m just trying to heal up. Right now I’m just groggy and tired, so forgive me if this blog is a little short.

The plan now is to rehab at the hospital for like 10 days, just some light rehab. I’ll stay laid up, keep some ice on the knee and that’s pretty much it. I do get to travel back and forth to home, which is good, I just go back to the hospital for the rehab every day.

I just want to say to everyone showing me support: Thanks a lot. I appreciate it, and you know I’ll be back next year, ready to get going in a hurry.

Getting My Stamina Back

September 25th, 2008 - 5:59pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

Alright, I’ve got some big news this week:

I started lifting weights with my left arm. I’ve started conditioning and running full speed now, too — I don’t have to be on the treadmill all the time. It definitely gives me a lot more to do now that I’m not just lifting weights with one arm. So I’m starting to take big strides just by getting into the swing of things, getting my stamina up.

I’m getting excited. It’s getting closer every week and I can’t wait to get out there. I can’t wait to start practicing. Then when I step on that game field, it’s going to be something I ain’t never felt before. It’s the NFL, I haven’t played in a game yet, I missed all the preseason games. I’ve just been out here watching. I’ve got a whole bunch of energy balled up and ready to explode, for real. I just can’t wait to get out there.

What An Experience

September 11th, 2008 - 1:18pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

Wow. Oakland was an experience. It was cool to be in that atmosphere — The Black Hole, rowdy crowd — and then we went out there and played to our ability and got the win. I can’t stress enough what a great experience it was just being out there.

I didn’t catch any batteries to the back of the head, thank goodness, but it was still pretty crazy. I saw a couple fights break out in the crowd, especially when we were walking in for halftime. It was pretty cool. I’m saying, it was really exciting being around that atmosphere, watching the guys make big plays.

The thing I was most excited about was watching Eddie Royal, one of my good friends, being in the same rookie class and all, making plays. I’m just like, “Yeah. That’s what’s up.” It was exciting watching him play. Heck, it was exciting watching EVERYONE play.

Can you tell I’m excited the season is here?

Becoming a Vet

September 4th, 2008 - 1:12pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

So…I’m excited the regular season is here. I mean I wish I could be in it, of course, but I’ve just got to check it out from the sidelines for now. I do a lot of watching, just seeing how people carry themselves during the season.

When I get back out there, I want to be a vet. I don’t want to be a rookie. That’s the goal. I want to be used to it and have gone through it already, so that’s what I’m doing now. I go to all the games, all the away games, and I’m just staying around the team and seeing what they do and how everything goes — how it’s all working out.

This week we’ve got the Raiders. I’m excited to go into that atmosphere. I’ve never been to Oakland, so that’s going to be an experience. It’s the NFL, man. I still get culture shock and sort of nerves when I’m on the field watching everyone warm up. It’s like, “Man…I can’t wait to do it.”

Making Progress

August 28th, 2008 - 9:47am by Ryan TorainOther posts by Ryan Torain

I just want to start out by thanking everybody again for your support. And just so you know, my doctor’s appointment last week went great. They told me I could start doing rehab, and that I could take my brace off when I do and get a little rotation in. So I’ve been doing all that since last Thursday.

They still say three months is what I’m looking at, though the goal now is to get back on the field by Week 6 against Jacksonville. I’ve just got to keep working hard, though, because you never can tell the future with an injury. I’ve got to stay on top of my rehab and hopefully I’ll be able to come back sooner.

The elbow is a little tight when I take the brace off and work the rotation, it’s just kind of stiff, but I’m working the little kinks out, so it will be all good.

I’ve started riding the bike, too, and I’m excited about that. It gives me something to do and I feel like I’m staying up on my cardio. With all that going and me still going to all the meetings, I feel like I’m slowly getting back into the groove of things, just being with the team.
