Take Up Your Arms!

October 11th, 2007 - 10:30am by MilesOther posts by

So Monday we picked up our deflated egos and hauled them to Rifle.  Here, the Broncos faithful restored them with hearty handshakes, gleaming smiles and enthusiasm for the team that lost 41-3 the day before.

I really was not very excited to make the trip after what happened on Sunday.  I figured the few people that did show up would just want to talk about how horribly the team played.  You know what?  About 600 people showed up and I’m not lying when I tell you that not one, NOT ONE person mentioned the game.  They were just happy to get to see everyone and cheered us on for the next game.

Man, I wish we could play the next game in Rifle, because I’m a little dissappointed how quickly people throw in the towel.  I understand being frustrated, believe me I know, but when I looked up to an empty crowd before the beginning of the fourth quarter last week … I was speechless (pun intended).  How do such rabid fans that describe themselves as die-hards just pack up and leave?

A Modest Proposal…or Response…or Whatever

I was originally going to right an outrageous response to a blog entry that many of you may have read.  You can find the entire entry HERE.  If you don’t want to read the whole thing, basically the guy doesn’t like mascots.  Now, the guy puts a disclaimer at the top saying he’s a huge Broncos fan and that sometimes you just need to complain.  Duly noted.  I’m not saying it didn’t ruffle my feathers and I understand that some people just don’t like mascots.  So I was going to tear this guy apart (in a funny way) and maybe create a dialogue between us that people would find entertaining, but I decided that maybe he had some valid questions.  So I decided I would answer them.  Well, mainly this one:

“Why do we need this?

Is this a ploy to increase sales of mascot-related merchandise? Because I can’t see any respectable parent buying the hard back book “Mile’s Grand Adventure: a chronicle of Mile’s A-to-Z journey around the state of Colorado,” or a serious golfer shelling out $33 for headcovers in the shape of Mile’s head?”
