Rahim Moore Stands Tall

May 21st, 2013 - 1:25pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

Denver Broncos safety Rahim Moore is working hard in the off-season to get better, but the UCLA third-year player is aware that he will never be able to blot out the memory of that touchdown pass thrown by the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs.

Not from his mind, and certainly not from that of legions of Broncos fans.

After that devastating loss Moore stood at his locker and answered all the questions, taking all the blame, deflecting none to anyone else.

And he met the press like he was supposed to on the first day of OTA’s.

Pro Football Focus Labels Rahim Moore a ‘Secret Superstar’

May 21st, 2013 - 9:17am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

While one play may have left a lasting impression of Rahim Moore’s 2012 campaign, the second-year safety played a total of 1,121 defensive snaps last season. That figure represents the most of any Broncos defender last year.

It also showed the strides that the second-year player made from his rookie season.

Moore started the first five games of his career, but then was replaced in the starting lineup by Quinton Carter. He went on to open just two of the team’s final 11 contests and did not play in the Wild Card win against Pittsburgh.

Then 2012 rolled around and all the hard offseason work that Moore put in showed on the field. The second-round pick out of UCLA started 15 games with his lone non-start coming when Denver opened in a goaline package in Week 2 at Atlanta.

Moore’s Mentality: ‘Let’s Go Try Again’

April 16th, 2013 - 2:00pm by Andrew MasonOther posts by

Advanced statistical metrics aren’t kind to every player. But they revealed little but raves for safety Rahim Moore’s performance in 2012, which saw arguably more improvement than anyone else on the Denver roster.

But the nature of his position — and of playoff football — is that an entire season of outstanding play can be overshadowed by one gaffe at the worst possible moment. That’s why the perception of Moore is defined by a misplay on a deep pass from Joe Flacco to Jacoby Jones, and not on a season’s worth of steadiness and growth.

If fans stew over such an error, it’s one thing. That can be harmless, as long as the player ignores the chatter. What matters is whether Moore gets over it and re-focuses on what’s next — and according to Champ Bailey, he already has.

“Let’s go try again, that’s pretty much his mentality,” Bailey said Monday. “I don’t think it affected him as much as people think. Because he got so much better last year. I can’t wait to see him improve this year.”

Few understand how much one play can affect perception than Bailey. He has been so stellar as a cover cornerback for so many years that when he allows a touchdown — as he did when beaten deep by the Ravens in the first half of January’s playoff loss — it’s as much of a shock to the system as stepping into 9-degree chill without wearing a shirt.

Bailey understands that it’s the exception, rather than the rule, that everyone remembers. That’s convenient, but it doesn’t tell an accurate picture.

“People want to talk about one play — like I said, even with myself, you can’t define somebody off one play,” Bailey said.

Manning Leads Pro Bowl Votes

November 14th, 2012 - 2:07pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Voting for the 2013 Pro Bowl has been underway for about three weeks, and the early returns are in.

Quarterback Peyton Manning leads all vote-getters for the all-star game with 376,981 votes, and therefore is first in line at his position on the AFC squad.

Plenty more Broncos are among the top-five at their respective positions in the AFC, including outside linebackers Von Miller and Wesley Woodyard, who are one and two among AFC vote-getters.

The Broncos also have two wide receivers near the top of AFC voting — Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker are currently ranked Nos. 4 and 5 at their position.

Fullback Chris Gronkowski is currently No. 5 at his position, tight end Jacob Tamme is No. 5 at his position, Ryan Clady is No. 3 among AFC tackles, Zane Beadles is the second-highest vote-getter among AFC guards, center Dan Koppen is currently fourth in votes at his position, defensive end Elvis Dumervil ranks second, Champ Bailey is third among AFC cornerbacks, Rahim Moore is the fifth AFC free safety, Matt Prater is the No. 4 kicker, Britton Colquitt is the No. 4 punter, Trindon Holliday is the No. 5 returner and David Bruton is the No. 4 AFC special-teamer.

Moore, Defense Riding High

November 13th, 2012 - 2:22pm by Tyler EverettOther posts by

When a deep pass over the middle by Panthers quarterback sailed toward safety Rahim Moore late in the fourth quarter Sunday, it represented a chance for Moore’s first pick of the season.

After making the catch and returning the interception 23 yards, Moore was able to breathe a sigh of relief after letting some would-be interceptions earlier in the season slip through his grasp.

“Yeah, it’s about time because I’ve dropped so many,” Moore said. “I’ve been in great position. I’ve had my hands on it a lot. I just stayed the course because that’s what I’m here for, to get the ball and make plays and I made a play yesterday. I was actually happy. I’ve made plays through the year but that was the best play to me.”

The interception was the Broncos second of the afternoon and capped a strong effort by the Denver defense, which sacked Newton seven times and even found the end zone on a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Tony Carter. It was the type of performance that will help the team’s confidence, but one that will be kept in perspective as the Broncos prepare for a San Diego team that put up 24 first-half points in the team’s Week 6 matchup.

‘No Excuses’ For Second-Year Safety

August 12th, 2012 - 2:17pm by Sam DavisOther posts by

Safety Rahim Moore isn’t slow to admit that at times, he struggled last year.

“I’ve had some good and bad (experiences), majority bad,” Moore laughed.

He’s over it. The only reason Moore looks back on his 2011 season is to learn from it.

“You just get better,” Moore said. “You watch (the film), but at the same time you have to move on. It’s not like you harp or get mad about it. You just get better. Because at the same time, there were some advantages that I didn’t have last year compared to previous rookies. Now, it’s no excuses. I’m just trying to make plays and win games. That’s it.”

As a rookie, Moore started the first five regular season games last year for the Broncos, but then just two of the final 11 games. Fellow rookie Quinton Carter replaced him at the starting safety position. But with the first official depth chart almost a week old, the former UCLA Bruin is back at No. 1 and playing with the first unit.

“Now, I’m inspired,” Moore said. “I’m more inspired and more motivated than I’ve ever been. Last year, I was training just to get ready for the NFL. This year, I’m training for an NFL season. It’s a difference.”

Adams: ‘It Just Felt Right’

March 15th, 2012 - 4:53pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

It didn’t take free agent safety Mike Adams very long to decide Denver was the place for him.

“It is a great fit for me,” he said Thursday. “The atmosphere is good and it felt right. I didn’t have to take any more (visits), it just felt right.”

He laughed that the 70-degree weather didn’t hurt, especially coming from Cleveland.

But most of all, he appreciated the warmth he felt from everyone he met on the visit, from Owner/CEO Pat Bowlen to Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway to Head Coach John Fox.

“I knew of Fox when he was with the Giants,” Adams said. “I was born and raised in Paterson, NJ, and I heard nothing but good things about him. Even when he went to Carolina – nothing but good things about him. It was proven once we all met today and it was a no-brainer to not take any more visits and just stay here.”

Expecting a Competitive Game

November 26th, 2011 - 11:55am by Rahim MooreOther posts by

How was everybody’s Thanksgiving?

Mine was fantastic. I ate at my house -– one of my friends, she cooks, so we just relaxed at home. I didn’t get a chance to see my family because they were in California, so I was there in spirit and they were here with me in spirit.

Overall, I’m thankful for a lot of things. I’m thankful that I can be able to play this beautiful game that God blessed me to play, be able to be a part of this team. It’s especially fun to be part of the team since we’re playing so well.

Preparing for Primetime

November 16th, 2011 - 4:54pm by Rahim MooreOther posts by

I’ll tell you what, last week was great. It’s funny, with those type of stats, you’d think it’s tough to win, but we did it. Our coaches, they’re working their butts off. The win was definitely a turning point for us and I’m blessed and happy for this team. I was just watching the offense and kept getting more and more excited.

For an opposing defense, It’s tough, man. Because nobody wants to get run on. I just thank God that the things we’ve been doing as a team have been working. I just pray to God that everything keeps going and we give Broncos Country this good football they deserve.

Now we’ve got Thursday Night Football, primetime, the only show in town. I’m excited. But when it’s all said and done, I want to share it amongst these guys, my teammates. I’m looking forward to the challenge, seeing our guys going out there and balling out.

It’s the third straight USC quarterback we’re about to play — first Carson Palmer, then Matt Cassel, now Mark Sanchez. Being a UCLA guy, it’s funny. But Mark Sanchez is probably one of the best quarterbacks I played against in college. He really motivated me for my first offseason because of the things he did to me when I was a freshman. So I’m looking forward to the challenge. That dude, he’s a competitor, and I’ll say it — he came from a great program. He’s cut from that cloth. So it’ll be fun out there tomorrow night.

Notebook: Miller, Moore and a Division Test

NO. 58

Von Miller makes no bones about it — the late Derrick Thomas was his “favorite football athlete of all time.”

And it all started with an interview.

“He said that he looked at playing defensive end as being like a running back, and the offensive linemen were trying to block him from getting to the quarterback,” Miller recalled. “That’s how I look at it. I always thought I was an offensive guy at heart, and I look at it like the offense is trying to stop me from getting to the quarterback. That interview was really what made me fall in love with Derrick Thomas the football player.”

Now Miller wears No. 58, just like the former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker.
