Pro Bowl: Quotables

December 26th, 2012 - 5:48pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Five Broncos were named to the 2013 Pro Bowl, the league announced on Wednesday.

Below are what the players had to say about the honor:

CORNERBACK CHAMP BAILEY (12th Career Selection)
“I do my thing and I’ve done my thing over the years, but when you’re on a team like this and you play well, people are going to notice. It’s really just part of my team and what we’ve done. That’s pretty much why I’m in there. It’s definitely a team thing. At some point I want to be able to tell the people at the Pro Bowl that I’m not coming because I’m playing in the Big Game. That’s really what my eyes are on, just making sure we keep winning and get to that Big Game.”

QUARTERBACK PEYTON MANNING (12th Career Selection)
“It’s a tremendous honor and I am very humbled to receive this recognition. Being voted to the Pro Bowl by your opponents, their coaches and of course the fans means a great deal to me, especially when you consider how many other quarterbacks in the AFC are having outstanding seasons. This recognition shows that our offensive line did a great job with protection. It shows that our wide receivers and tight ends made a lot of plays. My goal has always been to go out and help the team win and play at a high level. Anything that comes along with that, like being honored as a Pro Bowl selection, is very humbling.”

On if this year’s Pro Bowl selection means more to him
“Well it’s certainly very humbling anytime you’re voted for something special like the Pro Bowl by your peers, by your fellow opponents and coaches, and then of course by the fans. It really means a great deal. It’s certainly been a unique year for me with a ton of change and transition so I’m very humbled and honored to receive this recognition.”

17 Broncos Among Tops in Pro Bowl Fan Voting

December 20th, 2012 - 10:46am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Fan voting for the 2013 Pro Bowl is complete. All that remains is player and coach voting, which will take place this week.

The final teams will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 26 on NFL Network’s “Total Access.”

Taking only fan voting into account, 17 Broncos are among the top five at their respective positions in the AFC. The group is led by quarterback Peyton Manning, who beat all vote-getters with 85,000 votes more than second place — New England’s Tom Brady.

That leaves Manning as the No. 1 AFC quarterback. Also in first place at their positions are cornerback Champ Bailey and linebacker Von Miller.

Right behind Miller at outside linebacker is Wesley Woodyard in second place. Defensive end Elvis Dumervil is the No. 2 AFC defensive end, behind only Houston’s J.J. Watt. Ryan Clady is the AFC’s No. 2 tackle, behind Baltimore’s Michael Oher. Zane Beadles is the AFC’s No. 2 guard, behind New England’s Logan Mankins.

Fan voting officially closes at the conclusion of tonight’s Monday Night Football matchup pitting the New York Jets against the Tennessee Titans.

So whether or not you watch the game, make sure you get your Pro Bowl votes in.

At last check, seven Broncos were being voted starters for the AFC squad. Eight other Broncos were in contention for a Pro Bowl spot.

Tonight marks a final chance to push Broncos into the game via fan voting.

Last year, Denver sent six players to Hawaii.

The final Pro Bowl squads — taking into account fan, player and coach voting — will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 26 on NFL Network’s “Total Access.”

Dawkins Selected to Ninth Pro Bowl

January 19th, 2012 - 4:34pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

On Thursday, the Broncos’ Pro Bowl headcount jumped to six with the news that Brian Dawkins will be headed to his ninth career Pro Bowl.

The veteran safety was named an alternate in late December, and made the AFC squad in place of Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu, who will not participate due to injury.

Dawkins is now tied with John Lynch, another former Bronco, for the second-most Pro Bowl trips all-time among safeties. They trail only Washington/Houston safety Ken Houston’s 10 trips. Another Broncos safety, Steve Atwater, is next in line with eight.

Dawkins will join five teammates — Champ Bailey, Ryan Clady, Elvis Dumervil, Willis McGahee and Von Miller — in Hawaii, marking the most all-star game selections for Denver since the Broncos had seven in 2001.

Clady, McGahee Headed to Pro Bowl

January 17th, 2012 - 2:11pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Left tackle Ryan Clady and running back Willis McGahee, who were named alternates for the Pro Bowl when the rosters were announced in late December, are now officially headed to Hawaii for the NFL’s All-Star Game.

They join Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller as the Broncos now have five Pro Bowlers. Bailey and Miller are starters for the AFC squad, and Dumervil, currently a reserve, might end up a starter since New England’s Andre Carter — who is on injured reserve — is slated to be a Pro Bowl starter ahead of him.

Clady replaces Miami’s Jake Long, and McGahee replaces Houston’s Arian Foster. Both players could not participate due to injury.

Clady announced he would be making the trip to Honolulu on his Twitter account, thanking everyone who voted. The fourth-year player has started all 64 games to start his career.

McGahee ran for 1,199 yards this season and accounted for five total touchdowns as the Broncos set a new franchise single-season rushing record.

The Broncos’ remaining alternates for the Pro Bowl are quarterback Tim Tebow, safety Brian Dawkins, kicker Matt Prater and punter Britton Colquitt. We will let you know if any of the four are called up to the game.
