Broncos vs. Chiefs: Pregame Notes

11:46 a.m. MST: According to dictionary.com, superstition is defined as any blindly accepted belief or notion. So with the final four games in front of us and the playoffs within reach, I think all of Broncos Country is pulling out their superstitions. And those of us that work for the team are no different. Typically my blog duties only come on the road. But since I have had a good run of luck while blogging, the duties are on my plate today.

The Broncos will be decked out in their orange jerseys and white pants this afternoon — the same look they had in their Week 3 victory over the Saints (superstitious?). It is a balmy December day, with temperatures expected to reach the 60s. And we better enjoy it, looks like snow and cold are headed back our way.

I am going to head down on the field with Jake Grilley to grab some photos and I will be back with the inactives as well.

12:41 p.m. MST: PR has just handed me the inactives for today’s game. For the Broncos; Marlon McCree, Champ Bailey, P.J. Pope, Selvin Young, Andrew Pinnock, Herana-Daze Jones, D.J. Williams and Tim Crowder are all inactive.

12:49 p.m. MST: For the Chiefs; CB Patrick Surtain, TE Michael Merritt, LB Pat Thomas, LB Donnie Edwards, G Tavares Washington, T Andrew Carnahan, G Adrain Jones and WR Mark Bradley.

A couple of lineup changes for today’s game. Peyton Hillis will start at running back for Young, Josh Bell starts for Bailey, Vernon Fox starts for McCree, Spencer Larsen will start at fullback for Hillis and Wesley Woodyard will start for Williams.

For the Chiefs, Rocky Boiman and Derrick Johnson will switch spots. Johnson will man the middle while Boiman moves outside. And Devard Darling starts at wide receiver for Bradley.

2:11 EST: Hello from the swamps of New Jersey and a rainy Giants Stadium. It is wet, it is cold and it should be interesting to see how both teams respond.

It is always fun to visit this area of the country, especially during the holiday season. Many of us took the 20-minute jaunt into New York City to experience the lights of Time Square and the other tourist areas. Thankfully we all came back unscathed but with lighter wallets.

Jake Grilley is down on the field, trying to stay dry and snap some photos. When he comes back up, I will post some of his images and I should also have the inactives.

Also just a quick note. Unfortunately some of the blog comments the last couple of days have been… well a little out of bounds. I know we all go through the gamut of emotions, but keep the comments away from personal attacks and profanity. If we see them, we will delete them. Thanks for your understanding and if you have any questions or concerns, contact me.

OK enough of that, back to the action at hand.

Red Bull Air Force Pictures

During the pregame festivities before Sunday’s game against the Raiders, I was pretty shocked when I saw people parachute into INVESCO Field at Mile High and land near midfield. I just saw a documentary on “Fan Man,” some guy who would randomly parachute into sporting events, so I half expected to see security sprint out to grab the parachuters.

Then I remembered the Red Bull Air Force was part of the pregame entertainment. They’re an elite crew of air savvy professionals that continue to push the envelope in the sports of paragliding, hang gliding, skydiving and BASE jumping.

Anyway, we just got some pretty cool pictures of them jumping into the stadium.

Like I wrote in the blog yesterday — I think I want to sky dive at some point in my life, just not sure I’d be willing to try to land in the middle of a football field in front of 70,000 fans.

More pictures after the jump.

Broncos vs. Raiders: Pregame Notes

12:41 MST: It’s pretty comfortable weather out there — a great day for the Broncos to finally be back home. It feels like it’s been a while.

The players just got done warming up and most of them are back inside — even Matt Prater and Brett Kern are absent from the field for the moment. I just got back up from the field after getting some shots from the earlier warm-ups. I’ll post those momentarily.

12:58 MST: The team just officially released the inactives for today’s contest:

Champ Bailey, Nic Clemons, Tim Crowder, Calvin Lowry, Marlon McCree, Nate Webster, D.J. Williams and Selvin Young will not play this afternoon.

I’m posting pictures from the field right now.

Broncos vs. Falcons: Pregame Notes

11:06 a.m. EST: A hearty good morning to each and everyone of you from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta as the Broncos prepare to take on the Falcons.

Much like the players and coaches, those of us that work for the team are extremely superstitious. So since I was the blogger during last week’s victory game against the Browns, I will handle those duties again this weekend. Hopefully the results will be the same.

We are just under two hours from kickoff and the Broncos and Falcons passing units have taken the field to warm up. I am going to head on down to the field for some photos, but I shall be back directly with those and the inactives.

11:21 a.m. EST: Well I got a little side tracked before I headed down to the field, but I wanted to make mention that Champ Bailey is out on the field and going through a series of drills with strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten. It is still unknown if Bailey will play, but we should know within the hour.

12:00 p.m. MST: Ah, good to be back at INVESCO Field after an off week. It’s football time again in Broncos Country. It’s a warm day in Denver — right now Weather.com says it’s 71 degrees, and the high could get up to 75 — so it’s no surprise that it looks like more players than normal are out on the field warming up a little early. It’s nice out there.

Brandon Marshall is on the field in his trademark pajama bottoms, and Jay Cutler is throwing passes to a few receivers — Brandon Stokley just ran a quick post route.

12:05 p.m. MST: There’s a lot of orange on the field — mostly hats and gloves, but players from both teams are sporting the bright color during warm-ups. I feel like I’m at a University of Tennessee game. Or Texas, whichever UT you prefer.

12:08 p.m. MST: Just saw a happy couple — one was wearing a Ronnie Brown jersey and the other donning D.J. Williams’ No. 55. I wonder if they planned to portray one of the more crucial matchups for this afternoon — those two could run into each other on the field quite a bit today.

6:26 p.m. EDT: Having never traveled to a game at Gillette Stadium, I didn’t know what to expect.

We drove down narrow streets through neighborhoods for a while, looking at countless colonial style homes. Then we made a right-hand turn, and suddenly the stadium was right in front of us.

It’s quite a unique location. People living in the nearby neighborhoods have the shortest of walks to the game.

Now the stadium lights are on as the sun has set, and players have slowly begun to make their way out on the field for their early warmups.

I’m about to head down with Jake Grilley to take some pregame photos, but first a quick bit of news — the Patriots have placed running back Laurence Maroney on injured reserve.

7:35 p.m. EDT: And now for some pictures from the pregame warmups…

12:44 PM MDT: It is definitely chilly out there today. Most Broncos that have been out warming up have been in orange toboggans — snow caps, beanies, whatever you want to call them (the bloggers been having a discussion lately as to what you actually call those). Just got back up from the field with some photos, I’ll be putting them up shortly.

12:44 PM MDT: Eddie Royal is going to be inactive for this afternoon’s game. He practiced toward the end of the week, but it looks like the ankle will keep him out of the game today. The rest of the inactives will be coming later.

12:00 p.m. MDT: A few days ago, the forecast showed lots of rain for today.

Thankfully, that is not the case.

It’s extremely clear out — on the drive to the stadium, I could see the mountains more clearly than I could for the past couple months.

Down on the field, Darrell Hackney is throwing a round a little bit while the CU Buffoons practice singing the national anthem.

At one end of the field, Mitch Erickson, Dylan Gandy and Erik Pears are throwing the football around. They have been trying to hit the crossbar from 25 yards out, and not too long ago, Pears nailed it.

Well, I’ll be heading down onto the field with Jake Grilley to snap some pictures here in a little bit once more players start warming up.

Broncos at Chiefs: Pregame Notes

10:26 a.m. CDT: We got here a while ago, and now we’re all set up in the press box.

Jay Cutler and the receivers just went back into the locker room after spending time out on the field practicing routes.

Brett Kern is the first dressed player out on the field, as usual, and the Broncos will be wearing all white uniforms today.

It’s a perfectly clear sky and very sunny. It’s early, but it’s already hot down on the field.

I just got some pictures from Jake Grilley, so I’ll be back in a few minutes to post them here in the blog.
