Broncos Win Toss

November 13th, 2011 - 12:06pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Tight End Daniel Fells served as the Broncos game captain today, joining season captains Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins, Kyle Orton and Chris Kuper. Punter Britton Colquitt also joined the group, filling in for Wesley Woodyard, who is inactive with a knee injury today.

The Broncos called tails and won the toss. The team elected to defer its choice to the second half.

Matt Prater’s kickoff went for a touchback and the Chiefs will start today’s game at their 20-yard line.

Family Affair

November 13th, 2011 - 10:28am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Special teamers are often among the first players on the field for pregame warmups and today was no different. Usually the kickers and long snappers test out the turf and start their pregame routine several hours before kickoff.

Being a tight-knit group, most special teamers know their specialist colleagues around the league and take time to greet one another during pregame warmups. Broncos punter Britton Colquitt knows his Chiefs counterpart extremely well, being that the two are brothers.

Britton and Dustin Colquitt are the first brothers to punt in the NFL at the same time since 1941 (George and Wes McAfee). The Colquitt family has produced four NFL punters, including Britton and Dustin’s father, Craig, and uncle, Jimmy. All four Colquitts attended the University of Tennessee.

This season, Britton is one of two NFL players to rank in the Top 3 in both gross and net punting average. Through eight games, Britton Colquitt has averaged 49.8 yards per punt (43.1 net). Dustin Colquitt has averaged 46.7 yards per punt (41.3 net).

Broncos to Kick Off

October 23rd, 2011 - 11:01am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

The team’s captains for today’s game (Kyle Orton, Chris Kuper, Andre’ Goodman, Champ Bailey and Wesley Woodyard) are at midfield for today’s coin toss.

As the visiting team, the Broncos called the toss and chose heads. The coin came up tails and the Dolphins will receive the ball to start the game.

Home Blues (and Pink) for Broncos

October 23rd, 2011 - 10:36am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

With the Dolphins presumably choosing to wear their white jerseys at home since it’s typically hot in South Florida, the Broncos are wearing their traditional home blue jerseys and white pants for today’s game.

In addition, some Broncos are wearing pink cleats, gloves or towels in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Both teams are on the field running through position group drills as warmups are close to winding down. We’re less than 30 minutes from kickoff, so the national anthem — sung by actress Melora Hardin, better known as Jan Levenson from “The Office” — and official team intros are just around the corner.

Tebow and Meyer Reunite

October 23rd, 2011 - 10:12am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Prior to today’s game against the Dolphins, Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow spent some time with his former head coach at the University of Florida, Urban Meyer. The pair met on the field at the beginning of warmups and spent several minutes chatting before Tebow began his pregame routine.

Tebow won two national titles at Florida under Meyer’s coaching. The Dolphins are honoring the 2008 national championship team at halftime of today’s game.

The sun is shining and it looks like a perfect day for a football game at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Broncos host the Colts for their second home game of the 2010 season, and several players have made their way onto the field.

The team will wear No. 11 decals on its helmets to honor Kenny McKinley in the first game since his passing.

Broncos at Bengals: Pregame Blog

Here we are in rainy Cincinnati, awaiting the first preseason game of the Broncos’ 2010 campaign.

It’s a bit of déjà vu, as this vantage point in the press box is exactly where we were watching Brandon Stokley’s Immaculate Deflection a little less than a year ago.

Speaking of Stokley, he’s already on the field warming up along with a handful of Broncos including Tim Tebow, Eddie Royal and D’Anthony Batiste.

The field is emptying out as the players stay out of the heavy rain for a few more minutes.

Here we are in Philadelphia, and you’d have no idea the city had more than a foot of snow just a week ago. Last night it was pouring down rain as we checked into the hotel, but this afternoon it’s sunny and warm.

As a matter of fact, here’s the gameday weather report:

Broncos at Eagles Weather Report

A few players are already on the field, including Kyle Orton, Chris Simms, Tyler Polumbus and Vernon Fox for the Broncos. Can’t quite tell which Eagle is on the field — there’s only one.

The word is the Eagles will introduce the Broncos defense before the game, so we’ll get a taste of the reaction Brian Dawkins will get in his return to Philly. When the Broncos offense takes the field, we’ll certainly hear a similar reaction for former Eagle Correll Buckhalter.

More and more Broncos are making their way out to the field in orange hoodies — David Bruton, Tony Carter and Alphonso Smith are taking a lap around the field.
