Bolden Provides Scoring Spark

It took just one play to get the Broncos right back into the game, and it came courtesy of a player that fittingly played his college football in Arizona.

After the Cardinals took a 10-0 lead, cornerback Omar Bolden stood in his own end zone awaiting a kickoff.

103 yards later, he was in the end zone and the history books.

Bolden’s 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the longest in team history in any game. And it gave the Broncos its first points of the game, pulling the club within three points of the Cardinals, 10-7.

Bolden First Draft Pick to Sign

The first of the Broncos’ 2012 NFL Draft picks has signed with the team.

Cornerback Omar Bolden, drafted in the fourth round, put pen to paper on Thursday.

Selected at pick No. 101 overall, Bolden amassed 138 total tackles, five tackles for loss, 21 pass breakups and seven interceptions in his career at Arizona State.

In addition, he accumulated 523 return yards, including two touchdowns — one of which was a 97-yarder in 2010.

Bolden did not play last season due to an ACL injury, but was still named a team captain, and earned a Hard Hat award for his work in the team’s offseason strength and conditioning program.

In 2010, Bolden was one of only four unanimous selections to the All-Pac-10 First-Team, chosen by the conference’s coaches.

The four-year starter for the Sun Devils appeared in 41 games in his career.

“This is all exciting for me,” Bolden said during the club’s rookie minicamp. “I really love this game. Just to have the opportunity to be out here and play in the NFL and for the Broncos, it’s an amazing opportunity.”

Fox on Closing Camp

May 13th, 2012 - 12:39pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

At the close of this weekend’s rookie minicamp, Head Coach John Fox met the media one final time to wrap up the event.

Below are some quick hits from his press session.

On how the rookie minicamp went:
“Very good. We have a good young bunch. I think they’ll definitely contribute and help the Denver Broncos be a better football team. They went about their business well and we had good focus and very good effort during the camp.”

On how CB Omar Bolden looked:
“I think he had a good camp. I thought he played well and he reacted to our install very well. He has good football awareness and football intelligence. It’s just a matter of learning to compete at this level at a consistent basis and I believe he can do that.”

On whether Bolden will return kicks:
“We’ll get those opportunities. We didn’t do much of that in this camp, but moving forward, we have time to help every one of these guys develop.”

On the addition of CB Drayton Florence:
“He’s another piece that will hopefully make us better. I don’t think you can ever have too many corners with a lot of the multiple receiver sets that you get—and we will get with the types of quarterbacks that we have on our schedule this year. That was problematic for us a year ago and hopefully with some good competition we can fix that.”

Bolden Joins Osweiler on Broncos

The Broncos went back to Tempe.

A day after Denver drafted Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler, the front office plucked another player from the Arizona State campus in defensive back Omar Bolden.

A four-year starter, the 5-foot-10, 202-pound Bolden missed all of last season after tearing his ACL in a spring practice. But he said he is healthy and ready to go.

“Oh yeah, I’ve got (my speed) back,” Bolden said in a conference call. “I’m ready to play, ready to compete.”
