In starters Orlando Franklin, Von Miller and Rahim Moore, the Broncos have a strong corps of second-year players contributing on a weekly basis.
But in addition to those 2011 NFL Draft picks, cornerback Chris Harris — an undrafted free agent last season — is playing a key role as a sophomore.
“For him to make the team as a free agent last year, he knows he’s better this year,” cornerback Champ Bailey said. “His mentality as far as the game and what to expect, it’s sky-high right now and he’s feeling good about what he can do.”
Bailey said Harris has grown “tremendously” from year one to year two.
Last year, Harris played in all 16 regular-season games and both playoff contests as a rookie, starting five as he emerged as the team’s nickel cornerback.
He was named to the 2011 NFL All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers of America and Football Outsiders after ranking first among the league’s rookie defensive backs with 65 tackles to go along with one interception, six passes defensed and six special-teams stops.
All 53 players on the Broncos roster fully participated in Thursday’s practice, the first time that has happened all season.

On Wednesday, the entire 53-man roster participated in practice.
Today, the news got even better for the Broncos, as every player on the roster was listed with full participation in Thursday’s session.
That includes guard Chris Kuper and linebacker Nate Irving, who were both limited on Wednesday.
It marks Kuper’s first full practice since fracturing his forearm in training camp on Aug. 14. Thursday was Irving’s first full practice since suffering a concussion in Week 3 against the Houston Texans.
Fox said Kuper’s status for Sunday’s game in New England is still up in the air, but if he were able to play, “it would be great.”
“He’s been through a lot with the ankle in the offseason and forearm in the preseason,” Fox said of the team captain. “At the end of the day, he’d much rather be out here than in the training room, so I’m sure he’s excited about it.”

We considered last week a pivotal game, not a must-win, but pivotal, because it was in the division and it was at home. We thought we were a better team than we put out there record-wise, so just to come out there and execute well against a solid Oakland team was encouraging to everybody.
The best part is it was a total team effort. All three phases played great. To win a championship and to be a championship team that’s what you’ve got to do consistently. Execute well offensively, get three-and-outs defensively and make a play on special teams. We accomplished that against Oakland.
Big game this week. I was just saying, New England is one of the premier teams in this league in modern time. For us to pack it up and go up to Foxborough is going to be a challenge and a test for us. But I think we’re excited. We know that we’ve got to play our best. That’s been our focus this week.
I thought the first time we played them last year, we were winning the game up to the middle of the second quarter, then I think we had three turnovers. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot. We were doing things well, we just can’t have turnovers against a team like this. The second time was just — they had our number. We didn’t play well. I think that still sticks in a lot of guys’ minds, and we know we want to go up there and perform a lot better.
All 53 players on the Broncos roster participated in Wednesday’s practice, including wide receiver Matthew Willis, who missed all of last week with a hamstring injury. Willis was listed as a full participant, along with cornerbacks Tracy Porter (shoulder) and Chris Harris (ankle).
Limited for the Broncos were Nate Irving, who continues to work back from a concussion suffered in the team’s Week 3 game vs. Houston, and guard Chris Kuper, who broke his forearm during training camp.
Head Coach John Fox said that Kuper, who returned to practice on a limited amount last week, has continued to make strides in his recovery.
“He’s easing back into playing,” Fox said. “He missed time in the offseason with his ankle surgery and then soon after coming back he broke his forearm so he’s missed a lot of time playing football but he looked good last week and he looks even better this week.”
As for Kuper’s prospects this week, Fox called it a “gameday decision.”
“He practiced all last week,” Fox said. “We decided to make him inactive for the game. We’ll see how he does this week in practice.”

Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick knows all of the different challenges that Peyton Manning will pose to his defense on Sunday.
One of those challenges is the way Manning utilizes the run, knowing exactly when and where to hand the ball off.
“I think Peyton has always used the running game well,” Belichick said in a conference call Wednesday. “He certainly understands how to attack defenses and where defenses are light, whether it’s in the running game, or the outside passing game, or play action or down the field or misdirection plays — whatever it happens to be — Peyton does a really good job of anticipating them, seeing them and getting his team in place to attack them. Certainly the run game is a part of it. I think he’s always used that as a good weapon against the defense, and it has complemented the passing game.”
The Broncos have run the ball 113 times this year, an average of nearly 30 times per game. Willis McGahee has led the way with a pair of 100-yard performances and a trio of rushing touchdowns.
The 10th-year veteran has spent his entire career in the AFC — including his first five years in the AFC East with the Buffalo Bills — so Belichick is very familiar with him.
Head Coach John Fox
On the outcome of the game
“I was very proud of them. I thought they accomplished a lot. I thought they came a long ways from a 1-4 start with a football team that had no offseason, no OTAs — really I was as proud of them as any team I’ve ever coached. The New England Patriots had a little bit to do with that. They are a good football team, obviously we played them twice in a month and we’re a work in progress and we’re obviously not up to par to compete with them at this point. Not taking anything away from them – obviously they’re well-coached, they had two weeks to prepare, they were fresh. I think Brady was about as sharp as I’ve seen him. He’s a terrific quarterback anyways, but I thought he had a great night. The fact that we lost a couple safeties didn’t help.”
On bringing pressure
We reached a point there where we didn’t have enough people to match up on their multiple wideout stuff so it limited us to some point as far as playing man coverage. But that’s neither here nor there. I think they were definitely the better team tonight.
On QB Tim Tebow
“Kind of like our football team. I was really proud of where he started and where he brought this team. We are a work in progress. We’ve got a lot of work to do. That hasn’t changed for some time and as I mentioned earlier — with the two matchups we had against the New England Patriots I think it’s evident we have work to do.”
On the offense
“Every year has it’s own personality and we’re officially starting our offseason now and we’ll do whatever it takes to get better. So whether that’s scheme, personnel, all the same things the teams the teams that didn’t make the playoffs are already ahead starting on.”
