The Broncos opened the season in style under the lights of Sunday Night Football in Week 1.
Denver is the only show in town again in Week 2.
“I’ve been dreaming about this since I was 7,” rookie defensive end Derek Wolfe said.
This time, it’s Monday Night Football for Denver, on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.
“It’s always exciting, just like Christmas,” cornerback Tracy Porter said. “You know when Christmas is, so you’re still excited to get those gifts. Monday night doesn’t come around often, but when you get your opportunity, you have to enjoy it.”
It’s the first time in franchise history the Broncos have opened the season with primetime games in back-to-back weeks.
But the Broncos are used to playing under the lights — 2012 marks the 21st consecutive season that Denver has played on Monday Night Football, extending the longest active streak in the NFL. It’s the second-longest such streak all-time.
“Monday night is a privilege to get to do it,” tight end Jacob Tamme said. “It’s a cool thing to be able to play in that type of atmosphere. To be able to open up Sunday night (and then play) Monday night, it’s a pretty cool thing. It doesn’t really change anything as far as your preparation and all that type of stuff, but it is neat to have an opportunity to go play that night atmosphere again.”
Primetime or not, linebacker Joe Mays said the most important thing will be to execute, “try to go out there and get a win.”
But to do it on Monday in front of a national audience and all of their peers would showcase to the rest of the league what the Broncos hope to be about this season.
“This is Monday Night Football,” wide receiver Brandon Stokley said. “It doesn’t get much bigger than that.”
