Training Camp Day 6 Report: A.M.

Players and coaches took the field this morning in near-perfect weather conditions. Smiles broke out all over the field with the sun shining, a cool breeze blowing in and a crowd of 2,012 fans watching from the grass.

Several veterans taking the morning session off presented chances for some young players to get extended reps.

The practice featured 11-on-11 drills with an emphasis on passing and red zone play.

The goal line drills dropped to walk-through speed as Head Coach Josh McDaniels said the team had just installed the packages into the playbook. (McDaniels did hint the team might have live goal line drills at Saturday night’s practice at INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium.) The intensity returned for the final 11-on-11 drill of the day — a final minute comeback drive scenario led by Kyle Orton.

The Broncos are scheduled to return to the Dove Valley practice field for their second workout of the day at 5:30 p.m. McDaniels said the team will not be in full pads for the workout.

Keeping A Consistent Approach

Take a few steps back, then a few steps over. Raise one finger, with both eyes on the tee.

When Matt Prater lines up for a kickoff, it may look like he’s trying to kick the stuffing out of the ball. For Prater, that’s not necessarily the case.

“I don’t really think about it,” Prater said. “I just go out and try to hit it pretty solid. Don’t try to kill it but hit it pretty clean and get it down and give the guys a good opportunity to cover it.”

Learning from Head to Toe

Without punting a single ball in the NFL, Britton Colquitt has already recognized the cache of the opportunity standing before him.

“It’s definitely a dream come true for that to be your job, to play football,” he said. “But at the same time, it really puts a bigger importance on what you are doing and why you are doing it.”

How did Colquitt recognize the importance of the pro jump so quickly? Punting happens to be his family’s business.

Dove Valley Update: March 13

March 13th, 2009 - 1:58pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

On Monday, a number of guys were at Dove Valley continuing their rehab from injuries in 2008, or they were just stopping by. Today, a pair of Broncos stopped in after getting into town ahead of time for Monday’s offseason conditioning program.

Matt Prater and Brandon Stokley were hanging out down in the locker room. Both players have spent their offseason spending time with family back in their respective home states.

The kicker traveled down to Florida to enjoy time with his three brothers and the nice weather “instead of freezing out here” he said with a laugh.

“I hung out with the family back in Florida,” Prater said. “That’s pretty much it. I’ve been lifting weights, trying to stay in shape, but I took a little time off.”

One of his favorite things to do in his time off is go fishing, so he made up for lost time on the water by reeling them in with his brothers. A self-proclaimed “home body,” Prater isn’t one to do a lot of traveling. He’d rather just kick back with his family and enjoy spending time with them.
