Broncos Win GMC Moment of the Week

The Broncos’ fourth-quarter and overtime rally to beat the Dolphins last week, led by quarterback Tim Tebow, is the winner for the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week, the NFL announced today.

Tebow led the Broncos on a furious come-from-behind victory, the likes of which had never been seen before. Down 15-0 with 2:52 to play, the Broncos became the first team since the 1970 NFL merger to come back from a 15-point or larger deficit with under three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and win.

The Broncos rally beat Jets’ receiver Plaxico Burress’ three-touchdown day and the Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger-to-Mike Wallace, 95-yard, catch-and-run touchdown.

Tebow’s victory will be stacked up against the 16 other Never Say Never weekly winners at the end of the season to determine the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year. At the conclusion of the regular season, fans can log onto NFL.com/gmc to vote throughout January for their favorite Moment of the Year among the 17 candidates.

The Broncos hope to continue their winning streak as the 5-2 Detroit Lions come to town Sunday for a 2:05 p.m MDT kickoff.

Royal Returns

Receiver Eddie Royal returned to action for the Broncos Sunday for the first time since injuring his groin in the Sept. 18th game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Royal was targeted four times, catching two passes for 14 yards, including a critical 7-yard pass on the Broncos’ final drive of regulation to set them up for a third-and-short situation, which they converted.

Even though the game went into overtime, Royal said he felt fine throughout the contest.

“I feel good,” Royal said Monday. “It was a long game; it was hot. I was able to make it through, and it felt good the whole game.”

Harris Stands Out

One player in the Broncos secondary came up with two critical pass breakups in overtime Sunday to help prevent the Miami offense from moving down the field for a game-winning score.

It wasn’t 10-time Pro-Bowler Champ Bailey or eight-time Pro-Bowler Brian Dawkins.

It was undrafted rookie Chris Harris.

Harris has seen little time in the secondary this season as he’s primarily been a special teams standout. But he was a big part of the Broncos’ overtime success.

Broncos Win in Overtime

After missing two field goals earlier in the game, Matt Prater stepped up and drilled a 52-yard try in overtime to give the Broncos a 18-15 victory in overtime over the Dolphins.

Linebacker D.J. Williams strip-sacked Matt Moore and recovered the fumble setting up the Broncos in prime position midway through the overtime session. After three consecutive runs from Lance Ball, Prater trotted on to seal the win.

Tim Tebow once again engineered a fourth-quarter comeback, throwing two touchdowns in the closing minutes and running in a pivotal 2-point try himself to send the game to overtime tied at 15.

The Broncos improve to 2-4 on the year after securing their first road win of the 2011 season.

Broncos Recover Fumble

After trading possessions, the Broncos recovered a Dolphins’ fumble and Miami’s 36-yard line.

Linebacker D.J. Williams strip-sacked Moore and also recovered the fumble, giving the Broncos possession.

Broncos-Dolphins Head to Overtime

After the Broncos tied the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion with 17 seconds left, the Dolphins took a knee, sending the game into overtime.

The Broncos called heads on the coin toss, which came up tails. The Dolphins elected to receive at the start of overtime. The first team to score in this period wins.

Denver scored two touchdowns in the final 2:52 of the game, with Tebow throwing scoring passes to Demaryius Thomas and Daniel Fells. The Broncos recovered an onside kick to set up the tying score.

Broncos Recover Onside Kick

After Tebow’s touchdown throw to Thomas, the Broncos recovered the onside kick. A Miami player grabbed it in the air, but couldn’t hold on as he was hit and Virgil Green came up with the loose ball.

The Broncos take over at their own 44-yard line with 2:41 left to play, trailing 15-7.

Broncos on the Board

The Broncos march down the field and cut Miami’s lead to a one possession game. Tebow threw a five-yard scoring strike to Demaryius Thomas as the receiver made a diving catch at the front pylon.

The play was reviewed and upheld.

The touchdown catch was Thomas’ first of the year and just his second catch of the season. He recorded his first catch earlier on the drive, a 15-yard completion near the sideline.

Tebow kept the drive alive with his legs as well as his arm. He threw a 42-yard completion to Matt Willis over the middle to get the Broncos to the Dolphins’ 12-yard line, and a few plays later, Tebow scrambled for a 13-yard gain to set up the touchdown pass.

Miami Lead Now 15-0

Brian Dawkins’ second sack of the game forced a fourth down for Miami, and Dan Carpenter converted a 43-yard field goal to extend Miami’s lead to 15-0.

It was a nine-play, 50-yard drive that spanned 5:05 on the game clock.

The drive was kick-started by a spinning, one-handed catch by fullback/tight end Charles Clay. The rookie took the reception 29 yards up the sideline into Broncos territory.

It was the longest play from scrimmage for the game, and Denver is now set to field the kickoff with 7:34 remaining in the contest.

Dolphins Up 12-0

The Dolphins put together an 11-play, 72-yard drive that spanned the third and fourth quarters, and capped it off with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Matt Moore to tight end Anthony Fasano.

It’s the first touchdown scored by either team.

Miami elected to go for two to try to stretch the lead to 14-0, but Champ Bailey had tight coverage on Brandon Marshall, and Moore’s pass fell incomplete.

Miami now leads 12-0, with Denver set to receive the kickoff. 14:54 remains in the game.

The drive included Miami’s first third-down conversions of the game — they had two and are now 2-for-10.
