Broncos vs. Jets: Pregame Notes

November 30th, 2008 - 1:11pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

2:11 EST: Hello from the swamps of New Jersey and a rainy Giants Stadium. It is wet, it is cold and it should be interesting to see how both teams respond.

It is always fun to visit this area of the country, especially during the holiday season. Many of us took the 20-minute jaunt into New York City to experience the lights of Time Square and the other tourist areas. Thankfully we all came back unscathed but with lighter wallets.

Jake Grilley is down on the field, trying to stay dry and snap some photos. When he comes back up, I will post some of his images and I should also have the inactives.

Also just a quick note. Unfortunately some of the blog comments the last couple of days have been… well a little out of bounds. I know we all go through the gamut of emotions, but keep the comments away from personal attacks and profanity. If we see them, we will delete them. Thanks for your understanding and if you have any questions or concerns, contact me.

OK enough of that, back to the action at hand.

Broncos vs. Falcons: Fourth Quarter Notes

November 16th, 2008 - 10:10am by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Matt Prater is out to attempt the short field goal attempt. From 20-yards out, Prater is good.

Broncos 17 – Falcons 13, 14:56 remaining.

14:56: Harry Douglas is now back deep for the Falcons. He is replacing Jerious Norwood, who suffered a rib injury. His return is questionable.

Douglas is stopped by Louis Green, first down Falcons at the 23-yard line.

14:15: After short runs by Michael Turner and Matt Ryan, the Falcons have a third and nine that falls incomplete. Flag down, looks like offsides. Yep, Jarvis Moss got going a little quick. Third and five.

Broncos vs. Falcons: Third Quarter Notes

November 16th, 2008 - 10:09am by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

Much like the Broncos did several weeks back, the Falcons are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their Super Bowl XXXIII team today. Interesting that they picked the game against the Broncos to do so. But nonetheless, players like Chris Chandler, Chuck Smith, Terrence Mathis, Jamal Anderson — who did the “Dirty Bird” as he was announced — came out to a large ovation. Although the loudest cheers may have been for the coach of that team and former Broncos head man Dan Reeves.

15:00: The second half is getting ready to start. Back deep is Eddie Royal and Tatum Bell. Royal already has two big returns, let’s see if he can get a third. Not a lot of room as he gets it back to the 23.

13:50: After two short carries by Bell and Jay Cutler, the Broncos face third and two… Cutler hits Peyton Hillis on the swing pass for the first down.

Broncos vs. Falcons: Second Quarter Notes

November 16th, 2008 - 10:08am by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Falcons start the second quarter with a first down at the Broncos 36-yard line… Great play by Dre’ Bly as he trips up Michael Turner for a 4-yard loss.

14:00: On third down Ryan scrambles in and out of the pocket and hits Michael Jenkins for the first down. Ryan may have been beyond the line of scrimmage, and looks like Head Coach Mike Shanahan wants the officials to take another look at it.

As those of you who watched last Sunday night’s Giants and Eagles game know, all parts of the body must be beyond the line of scrimmage for it to be an illegal forward pass.

After review, the call on the field stands, Ryan was not beyond the line of scrimmage. First down Falcons at the Broncos 20-yard line.

Broncos vs. Falcons: First Quarter Notes

November 16th, 2008 - 10:08am by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Jerious Norwood is back deep to return Prater’s kick and returns it to about the 20.

The Broncos starting defense takes the field. Starting is; Elvis Dumervil, Marcus Thomas, Dewayne Robertson, Ebenezer Ekuban, Dre’ Bly, Josh Bell, Marquand Manuel, Calvin Lowry, Wesley Woodyard, Jamie Winborn and starting at middle linebacker Spencer Larsen.

So a couple of surprises for the Broncos.

14:51: Matt Ryan’s first pass of the day falls incomplete to Roddy White… On second down Ryan looks for White again, but the ball is knocked down by Dre’ Bly.

Broncos vs. Falcons: Pregame Notes

11:06 a.m. EST: A hearty good morning to each and everyone of you from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta as the Broncos prepare to take on the Falcons.

Much like the players and coaches, those of us that work for the team are extremely superstitious. So since I was the blogger during last week’s victory game against the Browns, I will handle those duties again this weekend. Hopefully the results will be the same.

We are just under two hours from kickoff and the Broncos and Falcons passing units have taken the field to warm up. I am going to head on down to the field for some photos, but I shall be back directly with those and the inactives.

11:21 a.m. EST: Well I got a little side tracked before I headed down to the field, but I wanted to make mention that Champ Bailey is out on the field and going through a series of drills with strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten. It is still unknown if Bailey will play, but we should know within the hour.

Broncos vs. Browns: Fourth Quarter Notes

November 6th, 2008 - 5:17pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Browns start the final quarter with a 3rd and 6… Brady Quinn rolls and finds Brayon Edwards for the first down, but I see laundry. Offensive pass interference on Kellen Winslow. It is now 3rd and 16… Louis Green sniffs out the bubble screen forcing a fourth down.

13:43: Dave Zastudill hangs a punt high into the Cleveland sky and Eddie Royal calls for the fair catch at the 7-yard line… On the first play Cutler hits Royal who takes it to the house for a 93-yard touchdown. Prater hits the extra point and just like that the Broncos are trailing by just three.

To say that play took a little air out of Cleveland Browns Stadium would be an understatement.

How about some stats after that play. The 93-yard touchdown is the second longest touchdown by a rookie in Broncos history and ties for the fourth longest touchdown pass. Cutler has now thrown for 336 yards, his fifth 300-yard passing day this season.

Broncos vs. Browns: Third Quarter Notes

November 6th, 2008 - 5:16pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Browns will get the ball to start the second half… Prater kicks the ball deep in the endzone for a touchback. First down Browns at the 20… and Brady Quinn starts where he left off hitting Braylon Edwards for 15 yards.

13:40: Two short gains bring up 3rd and 8… and Quinn avoids two blitzers and finds Donte’ Stallworth for a 19-yard gain.

Broncos vs. Browns: Second Quarter Notes

November 6th, 2008 - 5:16pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: The Browns start the second quarter with a first down at their 45-yard line.

Jerome Harrison gains 16 yards then 13 yards and the Browns are in business at the Broncos 26.

13:57: After a first down incompletion, Lewis takes it up the middle and is horse collared down by Jamie Winborn. Flags quickly fly and the Browns have the ball at the 11-yard line.

13:00: Lewis gets 4-yards on the next play and then Quinn misses to Braylon Edwards and Steve Heiden. On comes Phil Dawson who burries a 24-yard field goal giving the Browns a 10-7 lead.

Broncos vs. Browns: First Quarter Notes

November 6th, 2008 - 5:15pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

15:00: Deep for the Broncos is Eddie Royal and Peyton Hillis with Phil Dawson kicking off for the Browns.

14:52: Royal gets the Broncos to the 38 yard line. First play, Jay Cutler finds Tony Scheffler down the middle for a 39-yard reception. Welcome back Tony.

14:00: The Broncos start with Jay Cutler, Tony Scheffler, Selvin Young, Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, Daniel Graham, Ryan Harris, Chris Kuper, Casey Wiegmann, Ben Hamilton and Ryan Clady.

13:23: After an incompletion to Brandon Marshall, a 3-yard gain by Ryan Torain and Cutler throwing the ball away, the Broncos face fourth down.

13:23: Matt Prater’s 38-yard attempt is no good. The defense takes the field. Starting on defense: Ebenezer Ekuban, Dewayne Robertson, Marcus Thomas, Elvis Dumervil, Wesley Woodyard, Nate Webster, Jamie Winborn, Karl Paymah, Dre’ Bly, Marquand Manuel and Calvin Lowry
