Here’s The Beef — Part 1

May 31st, 2010 - 8:55pm by mike_riceOther posts by

Our series of offseason interviews continues with new Broncos defensive lineman Justin Bannan (JB), who signed with Denver after playing for the Baltimore Ravens for the past four seasons. Bannan is 6’3″ tall and weighs 310 pounds. He spent his first four years in the league with the Buffalo Bills.

850 KOA had the chance to speak with the former Colorado Buffalo.

850 KOA: You’ve played with Buffalo for four years and Baltmore for four seasons. How great is it to be back home?

JB: You have no idea. I have freedom for once. I’m glad to be back out here away from the East Coast. I couldn’t be happier.

Busy at Work on Free Agency

March 10th, 2010 - 11:48am by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Brian Xanders have been organized, fast and effective in addressing the defensive line so far in free agency.

For anyone watching or keeping tabs, no National Football League team has added as many potential – we say potential because everything has to be earned on the field – new starters on its defensive line as the Broncos with the their three new linemen.

Indeed, Denver has signed four players in free agency so far, all on defense. Cornerback/safety/special teams standout Nathan Jones is the only one who does not play the D-line, and he has earned excellent reviews for his versatility and style of play of both defense and on kicking teams.

2010 Free Agency Blog

March 4th, 2010 - 5:54pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The free agency period officially got underway at 10:01 p.m. MST on Thursday, so check back with this blog all day for free agency news from across the league, and any official Broncos signings that come across our desk.

8:57 a.m. MST: Wow, you guys have been busy in the comments. Love to see it. All right, time to play some catch-up from the first night/morning of free agency. This early in the game it’s a little hard to tell what’s official and what’s just a bit of speculation, but let’s get started.

  • We do know a couple notes from within the division. First, the Chargers have traded cornerback Antonio Cromartie to the New York Jets. The Jets have confirmed the trade on their site, and sources say it will include a 2011 draft pick — potentially a third-rounder that could turn into a second-rounder — heading to the Chargers.
  • Another note from the Chargers — they have released veteran defensive tackle Jamal Williams and running back Michael Bennett. On the Jets’ side of things, New York has released cornerback Lito Sheppard.
  • One of the bigger names among the available free agents on defense was Colts linebacker Gary Brackett. Well, it appears Brackett will remain a Colts linebacker after agreeing a new deal.
  • It appears the Lions have been active as the new league year has gotten underway. It has been reported that the team has agreed to a deal with free agent receiver Nate Burleson. In addition, apparently the Lions and Browns have worked out a trade that will send defensive tackle Corey Williams to Detroit. And finally, Kyle Vanden Bosch is apparently saying he and the Lions have worked out a deal in free agency.
  • 9:10 a.m. MST: Some Broncos news just came across our desk: Brandon Lloyd and Russ Hochstein have agreed in principle to re-sign with the team. Terms will not be released, but we’ll have more on this later.
