Course of Action for the Cold

December 17th, 2008 - 4:06pm by Jake GrilleyOther posts by

The forecast for Sunday’s game against Buffalo says game time temperatures will hover just over zero degrees.

While Broncos players agreed the cold weather isn’t going to change how they prepare or gameplan against the Bills, some Broncos are going to prepare for Sunday’s elements differently.

Kenny Peterson, for example, learned early in his NFL career that defensive linemen tout themselves as some of the toughest players on the field — this means wearing long sleeves during cold weather games is frowned upon.

Dual Rookie Excitement

November 21st, 2008 - 3:49pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

It’s only natural that the rookies feel generally excited about Sunday’s game — after all, six of them have been in starting roles, sometimes at different positions.

But for Josh Bell and Spencer Larsen, it’s a little different this week.

Bell, an undrafted rookie out of Baylor, started the first game of his career last week in Atlanta opposite Dre’ Bly.

This week, with the odds even better that Champ Bailey will resume his spot in the starting lineup, Bell could play at nickelback. If that’s the case, he’s looking forward to being on the field with both Bailey and Bly, two of the best in the business.

“I’ve been looking up to Dre’ Bly for a while, since he was at Carolina, watching him when I was back in high school,” Bell said. “Then Champ being one of the best, if I can get my little brothers and my family to see me with those two, and I’m good enough to be there, it’s going to be a great thing. I’m going to cherish the moment.”

Plethora of Transactions

October 27th, 2008 - 1:45pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

On Monday, the Broncos announced several roster transactions, including the additions of free-agent wide receiver Chad Jackson and tackle Matt Murphy to their active roster.

The team also signed cornerback Josh Bell to its active roster from its practice squad while adding center Greg Eslinger and cornerback Rashod Moulton to the practice squad.

Jackson is a third-year wide receiver who spent his first two seasons with New England, which selected him in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He competed in training camp with the Patriots this season but was waived on Aug. 31.

In 14 career games with one start, Jackson has totaled 13 receptions for 152 yards with three touchdowns, along with four rushes for 22 yards. He owns five career punt returns for 83 yards and six kickoff returns for 106 yards. The wide receiver has also appeared in three career playoff games, returning four kickoffs for 78 yards and adding one special-teams stop.

Jackson was a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award — awarded to the nation’s top receiver — and a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection as a junior at the University of Florida.

Dylan Gandy Signed

September 24th, 2008 - 10:58am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos announced another roster move Wednesday — the signing of guard Dylan Gandy.

Gandy is a fourth-year player who rejoins the team after he was released on Sept. 9. Originally signed by the Broncos on May 16, Gandy competed in training camp and was inactive for the season opener at Oakland on Sept. 8.

Gandy won a Super Bowl ring with the Indianapolis Colts, where he played his first three professional seasons.

The team also added cornerback Josh Bell to the practice squad. Bell is a rookie who joins the Broncos after San Diego waived him on Aug. 31. He entered the NFL with the Chargers on May 2 as a college free agent from Baylor University.
