Broncos Could Be in Good Hall EraOne of the most gratifying moments of Super Bowl week for fans of the Denver Broncos was the announcement that tackle Gary Zimmerman had been selected for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Zim is absolutely one of the greatest offensive linemen in pro football history, as his selection to the all-decade teams of both the 1980′s and the 1990′s clearly attests.
He had to wait a couple of years longer even than he should have, but there is no question that the voters got it right in naming him to the game’s most hallowed halls.
As great as the news was about Zimmerman, it was just as disappointing that all-time great Randy Gradishar did not get selected.

Happy New Year!Broncos fans!
The Broncos season has certainly come to a close, however football season is well on its way to the game football fans anticipate year-round. Super Bowl XLII in Arizona is just around the corner and the contenders are being decided as we speak.
Oddly enough, my father played in the Super Bowl almost 40 years ago with the Minnesota Vikings against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl IV. Unfortunately the Vikings suffered a loss that day, but that doesn’t change the fact that my father is a part of Super Bowl history — and that is a beautiful thing!
When the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders traveled to Canton, Ohio to celebrate John Elway’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, I walked wide-eyed through a facility where football fans could spend hours. Athleticism, integrity and legacy are all under one roof. I could smell the passion, the fire, and the hits. The trophy case that holds every Super Bowl ring in existence gives prestige to the sport. That was a great day.
Offseason in Full SwingThe offseason will be busy and we’ve already seen Coach Bates leave and Bob Slowik has the job. He’s been with the team since 2005, so that’s a positive. I don’t know a lot about him. I’m sure we’ll get to know him quickly.
Big playoff weekend coming up. My dark horse team is Jacksonville as much as I like the Patriots who aren’t playing like they were earlier in the year. I like Green Bay, the Cowboys even without T.O. and Indy. Yea, yea, I know I sound like a front-runner, right?

A Final Mile High Salute!Last night was a big night at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The occasion? The Ring of Fame–created in 1984 by Pat Bowlen recognizing and honoring Broncos team members who played momentous roles in the organization’s history. This Ring of Fame dinner was to welcome and celebrate its newest inductee — Terrell Davis.
The event dually honored alumni, while presenting Terrell Davis with the honor that only 20 other members of the Denver Broncos can be associated with. In tribute to the Broncos Alumni Weekend, individuals from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s as well as some existing Ring of Famers gathered to share their mutual admiration and put their hands together for a career well done. After an introduction from Pat Bowlen, Mike Shanahan, and a highlight video it was time for the guest of honor. Terrell Davis accepted his newest achievement in true T.D fashion, humorously including stories of his years in the league, emitting humility, gratitude and sincere thanks to all of his coaches, fans and mentors, and of course topping it off with a Mile High Salute to solidify his final thought.
I Remember “Leather”This is Hall of Fame weekend in the National Football League, the kickoff event of the new season and the time when all-time greats are honored for their contributions to the game. Whether large or small, the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame class always includes the game’s greats, and the ceremonies in Canton never are less than memorable.
All Bronco fans are aware that quarterback John Elway is the only Bronco in the Hall of Fame, in terms of players who made their marks in Denver. And it is no great secret that many of us have frequently stated frustration with that fact.
However, there are others with Denver connections in the Hall, including cornerback Willie Brown, who started his pro career as a Bronco, and running back Tony Dorsett, the Dallas great who ended his career in the Mile High City.
But there is another with a big Denver connection, and he was a man I was honored to work for, and will always be proud to have called him a friend.
Training Camp – Most Unusual MomentSince we are in training camp, one of the questions most frequently asked of me has to do with the most unusual thing I have had happen.
We have all had those questions — What’s the craziest thing you have been asked to do?
In my case, what a surprise, it involves John Elway, during his first Bronco camp.

Lots of Press Interest at Broncos CampI counted the people surrounding Head Coach Mike Shanahan at his opening camp press conference, and there were 51 members of the press in attendance at that time.
Generally when the numbers are that high, it suggests a large number of national press (from outside Denver) in attendance. The fact that everyone in that group was local/regional only makes the high number stand out more.
Of course, the Broncos remain as the number one sports story in Denver pretty much all the time, certainly during the period from camp through season’s end, but also when something big happens in the offseason.
Still, this is remarkable considering that so many things have changed in the last 15 years — we now have a major league baseball team, a hockey team, a soccer team, along with developing sports such as professional lacrosse.
With that change in the landscape, one might expect that the Broncos’ share of the pie should be shrinking. But it seems as if there are two pies, the never-changing, ever expanding Bronco pie, and the other pie, which is being split up various ways.

Camp OpensEvery year when camp opens I get these odd feelings. When you played football for most of your life and had the opportunity to play in the NFL, July 4th was really your last holiday before camp opened. I remember thinking, “You better be in camp shape or camp could be torturous. Summer is over and it’s time to go to work.”
The smell of cut grass brings back the same feelings of early morning workouts and the competiton you faced on a dialy basis.
I’m as excited about the Broncos this year as I have been in many years. I think they really helped themselves in the draft and the offseason picking up some quality players that will help the defense improve.
I played around many great quarterbacks, Jim Kelly at the University of Miami, John Elway while here with the Broncos, Steve Deberg here in Denver and again in Tampa Bay, later in my career along with Vinny Testaverde. You have to be excited about Jay Cutler as he looks to me to fit into that catagory.
