Practice Quick Hits: 8/20

August 20th, 2008 - 2:41pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

It may be Wednesday on the calendar, but in the Broncos’ world, it’s actually Friday, with tomorrow being Saturday and Friday being Sunday.

Confused yet?

Since this is the first week that the team has switched over to their regular season weekly schedule, Friday’s preseason contest against the Green Bay Packers has turned things somewhat upside down. It all makes at least a little sense when you take into account that the Broncos are treating this week like it may as well be in the middle of the season, thus Friday is being treated like a gameday Sunday.

Training Camp: The Last Practice

August 15th, 2008 - 10:18am by Adam ZinserOther posts by

The day players have been waiting for is here. Training camp is now over.

With cloudy skies and pouring rain, the Broncos held their last practice of training camp, a 45-minute jog-through, in the South Suburban Sports Dome in Dove Valley. Wearing shorts, jerseys and helmets, the team went through a few series offensive and defensive plays as they finalize their gameplan for Saturday’s preseason game against the Cowboys.

Considering the short duration and nature of practice, there was not near as much action as is typical of a morning camp session, especially after the last two days with the Cowboys. But here are a few quick hits…

P.M. Blog: Day 12

August 6th, 2008 - 5:42pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

Though the sun broke through for most of the afternoon practice, it was definitely much cooler than this morning’s session, and thankfully, the dark clouds heading this way held off just long enough for the team to wrap things up and head inside.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: Hamza Abdullah, Champ Bailey, Peyton Hillis, Chad Mustard, Tom Nalen and Dewayne Robertson all watched from the sidelines with their various injuries/soreness. Abdullah was doing some calisthenics with out on the field to help rehab his groin before practice began. One end of a large elastic band was wrapped around his waist with the other end tied to one of the goal posts. He high-stepped sideways until the band became fully extended and taught, then would move back towards the goal post.

P.M. Blog: Day 10

Monday closed out with a quick practice under a nice cloud cover that made things pretty comfortable. There wasn’t much sweat to be had as players jogged through their respective plays — the one-tough-practice-a-day philosophy has veterans and rookies alike praising Head Coach Mike Shanahan’s forethought, as the players think it’s saving them tons of energy for when game time comes along.

As always, here are some quick hits.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: The usual suspects watched the jog-through practice from the sidelines — veterans such as Ebenezer Ekuban, Darrell Jackson and Brandon Stokley…The out of pads list remained the same as this morning, with the addition of Peyton Hillis, who didn’t dress out for the afternoon practice…Montrae Holland dressed out for the jog-through.

P.M. Blog: Day 7

On an afternoon that got started with a press conference announcing the departure of John Lynch, the Broncos headed to the practice fields for a jog-through session. The defense practiced against itself on one field while the offense ran through its plays on the other. Here are some quick hits.

ATTENDANCE REPORT: The out of pads list remained the same as this morning with one exception — Peyton Hillis, Chad Mustard and Tom Nalen all watched practice from the sidelines, but Michael Pittman was dressed out in his jersey…The usual suspects got the afternoon practice off — Champ Bailey, Ebenezer Ekuban, Darrell Jackson, Dewayne Robertson and Brandon Stokley — though they still watched from the sidelines.

POSTURING FOR POSITION: Mike Leach, Tony Scheffler and Josh Mallard took turns rotating in at the long snapper position during punting drills.

The Broncos closed out another day of training camp at Dove Valley with an afternoon jog-through. Here are some quick hits from the session.

ATTENDANCE REPORT:
The Broncos’ usual cast of veterans had the afternoon off, this included: Champ Bailey, John Lynch, Brandon Stokley, Dewayne Robertson, Ebenezer Ekuban, Darrell Jackson and Tom Nalen. Nalen was also excused from morning workouts.

“(Nalen) is such a hard-nose tough guy that he wants to go four or five days in a row, but it is rest well needed,” said Head Coach Mike Shanahan.

Montrae Holland, who hasn’t participated in the morning sessions because he has been training with Strength Coach Rich Tuten to get to his reporting weight, participated in his second jog through of camp. Holland saw time on the second offensive unit and as part of the scout team defense — the offense runs plays against itself during jog-throughs.
