Just about everyone who has anything to do with information, which includes every human being on earth, is aware that major changes are afoot in how and where we get our news.

This includes the vehicle of news distribution, the timing and release concepts involved at every level.

Feely Unlikely Addition to Record Book

Prior to Sunday’s game at Arizona, most Denver Broncos fans would have been hard pressed to tell you anything about Cardinals placekicker Jay Feely.

His 25-point effort against the Broncos of course was talked and written up with some amusement, outscoring the Broncos on a notably bad day in Arizona.

New Arrowhead, Old Rivalry

This week when the Broncos take on the Chiefs in Kansas City, there will be some new aspects to the venue, but the rivalry is one of the oldest for both teams.

Kansas City had one of the most remarkable building projects in American sports history 40 years ago when the city built the Harry S. Truman sports complex, stunning to look at as you drive by and featuring two separate stadiums that have become iconic among American venues.

Remembering Rob Lytle

November 21st, 2010 - 2:53pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

I was in my first year with the Denver Broncos in 1978. It was the year following the Broncos’ first AFC Championship and the team’s appearance in Super Bowl XII.

One of the first guys I met that training camp was one I still remember well because he was a great guy beyond being a terrific football player.

Rob Lytle died yesterday of a heart attack in his hometown of Fremont, Ohio, at just 56 years of age.

There have already been a lot of tributes to Rob Lytle, and this is mine.

Family Ties

Earlier this week I got a call from a big Broncos fan in New York, “Benny from New York,” as he describes himself.

Sounds like the descriptions given to callers on talk radio. Anyway, Benny is not a Giants or Jets fan, but rather has the Denver Broncos as his adopted favorite team. He calls now and then, and I always enjoy chatting.

This week he reminded me of one of the great truths in the sports world if you work for a team, or if you ARE a team.

“Only care about what the people who love you think,” Benny said.

Broncos vs. Chiefs – Another Classic Matchup

November 8th, 2010 - 12:32pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

When the festivities and hostilities kick off this Sunday at INVESCO Field at Mile High, it will be the 100th regular season matchup between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs franchises.

There is nothing like a good rivalry game to stir fans up, and ours undoubtedly will be very vocal Sunday, in spite of and maybe even because of the fact that the season has not gone well so far.

International Memories

October 27th, 2010 - 2:28pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

As we prepare to play the San Francisco 49ers in London this week, in the eighth overall but first regular season international game in Denver Broncos history, a lot of memories come back to me. I thought readers might enjoy hearing a few.

In the case of every one of those games, I was there (on site in the international city) for a full week, and in every case but one, I was there a full week ahead of the team to do media.

London Calling!

The Denver Broncos this Sunday will be the road team when they play the San Francisco 49ers, but both teams will be a long way from the City by the Bay.

London’s Wembley Stadium will be the host venue when the Broncos take on old rival San Francisco as part of the NFL’s 2010 International Series, but it will not be the Broncos’ first foray into international competition.

Saccomano: By the Numbers: 18

October 21st, 2010 - 1:21pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

I thought it might be fun to have a series of blogs (and, since it’s my blog, whatever I think might be fun seems pretty likely to find its way into print) on Broncos by the numbers.

The team has just completed 50 years of play, a milestone in any franchise history, and over that time a lot of players have made contributions, large and small, to what the Broncos are. It’s like family members, some more accomplished than others but when you are in a family, you are in for keeps. So too for the Broncos. Once a Broncos, always a Bronco.

Those players have worn a lot of numbers over the years, and we are going to take a look, over time, at various uniform numbers.

In the entire 51-year history of the Denver Broncos every jersey number has been worn at least one time. This is an unusual fact because it includes number “0″. As we have discussed in previous “By the Numbers,” the Broncos had a number “0,” fullback Johnny Olszewski, back in 1962. But he is the only player ever to wear “0″. Interestingly, number “18″ also has been worn just once ever, and it was by a teammate of Johnny O’s, albeit someone far more famous and accomplished in the Mile High City.

AFC West Authentic and Competitive

October 19th, 2010 - 2:36pm by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

The Broncos have a 2-4 record coming into this Sunday’s matchup against the Oakland Raiders, but sometimes you have to dig below the actual won-lost record for full meaning.

No one at Dove Valley is happy to be 2-4, but anyone choosing to do the match can find that through six games the Broncos’ opponents have the best combined won-lost record in the National Football League.

Further, every team will have a final record when the season is over, but it is not over yet. In fact, in some ways it is just getting started.
