Scheffler and Young Out

October 8th, 2008 - 12:27pm by Jake GrilleyOther posts by

On Wednesday Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced that Tony Scheffler and Selvin Young will be out against Jacksonville.

Scheffler and Young each suffered left groin strains in the Broncos 16-13 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday.

Eddie Royal, who suffered an ankle sprain against the Buccaneers, should not miss much practice time with his injury and could be available on Sunday.

According to Shanahan both Young and Scheffler should be ready for the team’s Monday Night Football game against New England in two weeks.

Royal and Ebenezer Ekuban were not scheduled to participate in drills on Wednesday but should practice on Thursday. According to Shanahan both players are probable for Jacksonville.

The Broncos came away with a win, taking down the Buccaneers 16-13 and moving to 4-1 in the process.

But a few Broncos were injured in the hard-fought win, including two of the team’s top pass catchers.

Eddie Royal went down during a punt return, and he did not return to the game. He went into the locker room and did not return, suffering a sprained ankle.

Tony Scheffler also left the game with an injury on the final drive of the game. He suffered a strained left groin.

Ebenezer Ekuban and Selvin Young both suffered left groin strains as well.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan will give another update during his press conference tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. MDT.

Clifford Russell has been placed on injured reserve, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced Tuesday.

Russell suffered a sprained neck on a scary injury during the Broncos’ loss to the Chiefs Sunday, and he had to be taken off the field on a stretcher. He did make it back to Denver on the team plane following the game after being cleared by doctors at a Kansas City medical facility.

To fill Russell’s roster spot, Shanahan also announced the re-signing of Glenn Martinez.

Making Progress

I just want to start out by thanking everybody again for your support. And just so you know, my doctor’s appointment last week went great. They told me I could start doing rehab, and that I could take my brace off when I do and get a little rotation in. So I’ve been doing all that since last Thursday.

They still say three months is what I’m looking at, though the goal now is to get back on the field by Week 6 against Jacksonville. I’ve just got to keep working hard, though, because you never can tell the future with an injury. I’ve got to stay on top of my rehab and hopefully I’ll be able to come back sooner.

The elbow is a little tight when I take the brace off and work the rotation, it’s just kind of stiff, but I’m working the little kinks out, so it will be all good.

I’ve started riding the bike, too, and I’m excited about that. It gives me something to do and I feel like I’m staying up on my cardio. With all that going and me still going to all the meetings, I feel like I’m slowly getting back into the groove of things, just being with the team.

Staying Involved

August 21st, 2008 - 3:07pm by Ryan TorainOther posts by

Big news everybody — I moved out of the rookie hotel and into my own place.

I actually just got moved in this weekend. I’m sure you all know how tough moving is with two arms, so you can imagine that it’s been a pain, but it’s coming together. It gets confusing and irritating sometimes having to move stuff around with one arm, but my brother Chris just moved out here with me about five days ago, so he’s been able to help me out a lot. I really appreciate his help.

We made the decision a while ago that Chris would move here — he’s going to get back into college out here next semester. So it’s just nice especially now that the injury happened that he’s been able to help me a lot with traveling back and forth and getting stuff done around the house.

I haven’t had much time to do anything like go see movies or even watch the Olympics, I’ve been so focused on just trying to get the apartment together. It’s a whole bunch of little things, just moving couches, TVs, pots and pans, bathroom stuff — it’s a lot going on.

And I’ve definitely been moving couches with just one arm. I’m He-man. I’m Hercules in here … nah, I’m just kidding, we got movers to do all that, so that’s worked out really well.

Ready for Rehab

So I was a little disappointed I didn’t get to get out there with my teammates and practice against the Cowboys these past two days. That’s an experience you don’t get all the time. I did get the chance to grab a chair and sit outside the building near the sideline and watch the first day of practice, though. It was the first time I’ve seen another NFL team and it was pretty fun to watch.

I have to admit it was pretty cool seeing players like T.O. and Romo out there in person running around, running routes. But I’ve got to get used to it and not get star struck, because I know that this is that type of league where you’re going to see big names every week.

So I guess I’ll update you all on how everything’s been in the past week. A lot has happened. I had surgery on Friday, and I was laid up for a couple of days. Everything went really well. They got me into a little brace instead of a cast, which is nice.

Staying Positive

Well, first of all I just want to thank all the fans out there that have been showing me support since my injury. I appreciate it. I need it all. I love it all, and I’m going to do what I can to get back out there and get in the show.

I have surgery around 5:00 p.m. on Friday where they’ll repair some ligament damage and put a plate in my elbow. I’m going to be staying overnight, and I’ll probably be back at the rookie hotel on Sunday morning. I’ll probably be away from training camp for three or four days when I’ll get the swelling down, then they’ll put me in a little brace where I’ll be able to work my movement in my elbow. Then I’ll just be rehabbing with Greek and the trainers.

It’s so frustrating because I just missed half of my senior season in college. Then I come back and I’m doing well in camp, about to play in my first game since October, and I injure my elbow and get sidetracked for three months. It’s frustrating but at the same time I’ve got to stay focused, stay smart in my mind and don’t get mentally broke down. I just have to stay positive about the whole situation and make it work.
