Broncos Roster Filling Up

September 28th, 2011 - 5:20pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

While the beginning of the season saw the Denver Broncos lose many key players, for the second week in a row, the team is getting healthier.

Cornerback Champ Bailey and defensive tackle Marcus Thomas returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday. It marks the second straight Wednesday the Broncos got a significant boost in their practice participants as linebacker D.J. Williams, defensive end Elvis Dumervil, running back Knowshon Moreno and receiver Brandon Lloyd all practiced last Wednesday after missing at least the previous game.

Bailey hasn’t practiced since injuring his hamstring in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders, and Thomas hasn’t practiced since suffering an injury in mid-August.

“You feel a little more comfortable in the fight when you have all your troops with you,” Head Coach John Fox said. “They were a welcome addition for sure.”

Costly Win versus Buccaneers, 4-1

October 6th, 2008 - 9:23am by mark_cooperOther posts by

Costly game with Scheffler and Royal banged up. We’ll get to that later.

The funniest play of the day was the Marcus Thomas interception. He dropped back into coverage from the inside rush position and intercepted the ball then proceeded to look like a stalled pick-up truck in a parking lot. A lot of shake and bake, juking like jello and trying to pull his leg out of the mud and then coughing it up. I’d have loved to seen his face when the ball came out and the Bucs recovered.

The defense had flashes of brilliance and at times played as well as I’ve seen them play all year. (Blogger)-Monodono, you may have hit it on the head last week with your comments about the Defense finding their identity. And Yardo, you’re always on top of it!! 3 sacks and 1 interception!!

If you didn’t know, it was Alumni weekend and I had a great time at the game as my two former teams played each other with the added benefit of seeing a bunch of the guys I played with and the guys from decades prior and after that played here. You also have to take your hat off to Mr. Bowlen, because year in and year out, he and the organization really roll out the red carpet to all the Alumni and host a wonderful weekend event of golf, meetings and the game. Thank you Mr. Bowlen, from all the Alumni.

I Feel a “Draft” in Here – Part 2

November 21st, 2007 - 12:25pm by ted_sundquistOther posts by

Before I continue with some more draft thoughts, I wanted to point out a few things from some of your responses to my first posting.

References to Mel Kiper or any other national publication’s projection of a draft choice is only to emphasize what the prevailing thoughts were at the time on a player. Never have the Denver Broncos used one of these prognosticators to select a draft choice. It’s from these same sources that we catch the most criticism and yet many seem to forget what their own viewpoints were at the time.

Next, I greatly appreciate the feedback, both positive and negative, from the fans. I expect and accept both. My goal is to provide you with a “method behind the madness” that you sometimes don’t get from other sources.

Tied on Top of the AFC West

November 20th, 2007 - 11:41am by mark_cooperOther posts by

Broncos 34, Titans 20, and it was a lot of fun to watch. What do you think?

You have to take your hats off to a team that has as many injuries as they have. Guys being moved around and a few out the door and a few new faces coming into the locker room 10 games into the season.

Glenn Martinez had a nice punt return; Brandon Marshall seems to be taking command as the No. 1 receiver and a team leader. The “O”-line is working together and over the last two weeks looks pretty good.

Andre Hall, Selvin Young, Tony Scheffler and Brandon Stokley looked good and Jay Cutler looks better and better the more he plays. You have to be excited about our prospects with this guy. I am!!

Like someone mentioned in the paper, this team has maybe one or two players from a game it played a three or four years ago.

The defense is bending more than breaking and that’s a positive as they’ve made the adjustments and put the right guys in the right spots.

Like we discussed earlier in the year, ”PATIENCE” will be the name of the game and there’s still a lot of football to be played.

I had fun watching the Monday night game.  I hope you did too.

Frustrated, but Staying Positive

November 6th, 2007 - 1:17pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

Frustrated. That’s the way I feel right now. It’s the feeling most of the players on this team have right now. It’s a really terrible feeling when you go out to a game and you’re playing as hard as you can and doing whatever the coaches ask of you for the entire game, and at the end you look up at the final score, and it’s 44-7. It’s obvious that we’re doing something wrong, or a lot of things wrong, because I feel like the talent on the team is undeniable. Us having games like we’ve had so far this season is inexcusable.

I do look forward to cleaning things up this week. One of the positive things about this season is there’s been a lot of trouble in our division so far, which puts us still in a great position to take over the lead of the AFC West, or at least go into a tie for the lead. It’s very encouraging, which is one of the things that keeps myself motivated and keeps this team motivated, knowing that whether we’re 7-1 at this point and the leader is 8-0, or whether we’re 3-5 and the leader is 4-4, it really doesn’t matter what the records are. The point is, we’re not that far behind.

What’s after Detroit?

November 6th, 2007 - 11:00am by mark_cooperOther posts by

Let’s keep the season in perspective. It’s tough to watch a game as lopsided as the Detroit game. It hurts because you want YOUR TEAM to win and if you didn’t want YOUR TEAM to win, you wouldn’t be a TRUE fan. If you didn’t get upset you wouldn’t be a true fan. If you didn’t care we wouldn’t be blogging. :o )

I like many of you get upset with the “L” word. I’ve never had that word programmed into my mind as I played sports my entire life and I still compete daily in my real estate business for new business.

Many of you do too, on a day to day basis, in some small way. We’re all competitors.

“L-ing” isn’t in my vocabulary and it shouldn’t be in yours. I use words like set-back or ran-out-of-time. Really though, the reason I went through the above drill, so-to-speak was because after I played for the Broncos, I went to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where our record was as follows.

1987/4-11
1988/5-11
1989/5-11

Talk about tough, that’s tough, winning a total of 14 games in 3 seasons.

That’s why I’m having so much fun reading the papers and listening to the news and blogging this season because I know what it’s like and how different a town is (feels & thinks) that only wins 4 or 5 games in a season.

Just one or two injuries on a team can ruin a season for most NFL teams. We’ve had MANY more than our share and personally I was wondering if it was going to (or really when) would it show up. Well, it has.

We’re not firing anyone.  We’re playing with what we have and going to do the best we can under the conditions presented because you can’t change injuries or cry about them. It’s a violent game and unfortunately part of the game.

Sometimes It Just Doesn’t Happen

November 4th, 2007 - 10:52pm by mike_riceOther posts by

Undoubtedly, it didn’t happen for the Broncos on Sunday in Detroit. “It” is anything positive. It was a game to forget in every respect. It was a game in which everything that has been a problem for the Broncos was exposed in a huge way.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan and the players have repeatedly said that injuries are not an excuse. I agree with that. The bottom line in the NFL is winning and losing. It really doesn’t matter how a team wins. I’m not sure, for example, the Packers have looked great in every game this year. But they’re 7-1.

I’m also not sure how good the Broncos were before the injuries started hitting. And let’s remember the list is long: Javon Walker, Travis Henry, Nate Jackson, Tom Nalen, Ben Hamilton, Jay Cutler, Ebenezer Ekuban, Jarvis Moss, John Lynch, Rod Smith, Stephen Alexander, and Tony Scheffler. Those are just the guys I can think of off the top of my head.

Everyone can agree that it would be hard for any team to overcome that many injuries in one season, even though some, like Scheffler, eventually returned to action.

Injuries, Poetry, and my YouTube Addiction

September 11th, 2007 - 4:10pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by

I guess we’ll start with the most pressing issue over the weekend, the injury of Kevin Everett and how severe that was. To be honest with you, I was really worried. I prayed, but I didn’t expect it to be nearly as bad as it is now. I’ve heard different reports, some say that he’s going to have trouble breathing and he needs to fight for his life and that he won’t ever walk again.

Those things are upsetting. I didn’t expect it to be too bad, mainly because we’ve had a lot of stretchers the past few months around here. Which is not a good thing, but fortunately our guys came out OK, going all the way back to Al Wilson. Considering how long it took him to get off the field and they took him to the hospital, it was terrifying.

Just a week ago, Karl Paymah was in the same scenario. He wasn’t moving, and his hit seemed so much worse because it was right on top of the head. But I guess you can’t really tell by how hard it is, it’s more about the placement. We had Warrick Holdman in training camp get taken off on a stretcher, and it’s just too much.

We’ve obviously had a few really major tragedies, losing our players, so it’s a lot to deal with. Those are off-the-field things, which are a little different, but there’s nothing you can do to really protect yourself from those sort of things. They teach you to tackle properly, and sometimes with the speed of the game and the strength that the players have, those collisions happen. They happen all the time, and if it’s at that particular angle, it could be pretty dangerous. Like I said, we prayed and are continuing to pray for him, and you never want to see anything like that happen.

Not What We Want To See

August 3rd, 2007 - 12:12am by mike_riceOther posts by

It’s one of those moments everyone dreads: Seeing a player motionless on the field. One of those moments came Thursday morning when Broncos’ linebacker Warrick Holdman collided with a teammate and didn’t get up.

As of Thursday night, Holdman was at Sky Ridge Medical Center with a spinal cord concussion. Needless to say, he and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.

It is amazing how quickly sports can become secondary to life’s more important things, such as health. While fans root for teams and players, and members of the media report on their endeavors, players are still people. They are people with lives, hopes, dreams, ambitions, likes and dislikes.
