Broncos Trail Heading Into Half

January 1st, 2012 - 3:46pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

We’ve reached halftime here at Sports Authority Field at Mile High with the Chiefs leading the Broncos 7-0.

After a first quarter in which the Broncos didn’t record a first down, they put together a few solid drives in the second quarter but couldn’t put any points on the board to show for it. A Tebow fumble on a third-down run at the Chiefs 15-yard line hurt the Broncos, and later on they punted from the Chiefs 39-yard line with 31 seconds remaining in the first half.

However, in a quarter that has been their Achilles heal all season, the Broncos managed to play it evenly with the Chiefs. Denver got its running game going, as Willis McGahee is approaching another 100-yard game despite the loss of two of his main blockers due to injury in guard Chris Kuper and fullback Spencer Larsen: McGahee has 87 yards on 13 carries and has been the dominant factor in the Broncos offense thus far.

On defense, the Broncos have been able to keep quarterback Kyle Orton out of the end zone. Orton is 10-for-18 for 128 yards but it has been running back Dexter McCluster who has given the Denver defense trouble. The shifty back has eight times for 59 yards including a 21-yard touchdown for the game’s only score.

The Broncos will get the ball to start the second half, hoping to build upon a second quarter that saw them record seven first downs to Kansas City’s two.

Vikings Extend Lead Before Halftime

December 4th, 2011 - 12:39pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

Ryan Longwell has kicked his second field goal of the day, giving the Vikings a 15-7 lead on the last play of the first half.

Minnesota got the ball after Tebow fumbled while scrambling at the Broncos own 21-yard line. As he went down, the ball came out while hitting the ground. The officials called it a fumble on the field, recovered by Vikings defensive end Jared Allen, and upheld the ruling upon further review.

The Vikings enter the half outgaining the Broncos on offense, 214-48. They also have 15 first downs while Denver has just one. The Broncos defense has played well, holding the Vikings to two field goals after Minnesota recovered two Broncos fumbles in Denver territory.

The Broncos will receive to start the second half, as the offense looks to get back on track.

Broncos-Jets Tied at Halftime

November 17th, 2011 - 8:01pm by Kenny LeganOther posts by

The first half has come to a close here in Denver, with the score tied 3-3. Jets kicker Nick Folk missed a 61-yard field goal at the end of the half to keep the score level.

However, Folk is responsible for the only Jets points, which came on a 21-yard field goal early in the second quarter. Other than that score, the Broncos defense has held strong, giving up just 31 yards on the ground. The defense has also been strong on third down, stopping the Jets on five-of-six third-down chances.

On offense, kicker Matt Prater gave the Broncos an early lead with a 37-yard field goal. Quarterback Tim Tebow is 5-for-7 for 50 yards while running back Willis McGahee, who was listed as questionable, has played throughout the whole half.

The Jets will receive to start the second half.
