15:00: The start of the fourth was delayed with an injury to Rodney Harrison. He was just carted off the field.

The Broncos face a third-and-two at the New England 18.

Pittman carries around the right end for the first down.

14:30: Cutler fires to Royal, who misses one defender but is taken down by the second. It’s a gain of four.

14:00: Pittman gets the carry up the middle, and he is taken down for a loss of one. That brings up third-and-seven at the New England 10.

13:30: Cutler fires across the middle to Daniel Graham, who spins away from the defender and gets into the endzone for Denver’s first score. 34-7, Patriots.

Broncos vs. Jaguars: Fourth Quarter Notes

October 12th, 2008 - 4:27pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: Brett Kern is back to punt and Dennis Northcutt is back to receive for the Jaguars. Kern gets the punt away despite some pressure, and he’s knocked to the ground but there’s no flag. The ball bounces into the endzone and Jacksonville will start the first drive of the fourth quarter on their own 20.

14:07: The Jaguars follow up a two-yard gain on first down with a first-down completion to Matt Jones. There’s a player down after the play — it’s Boss Bailey.

Boss is walking slowly off the field flanked by two trainers, but it’s under his own power.

The Jaguars have a first-and-10 at their own 36. David Garrard drops back and rolls to his right, buying time before finding his running back Greg Jones for a two-yard gain.

13:13: On second down it’s a draw play to Maurice Jones-Drew, but he only picks up two more yards. Third-and-6 and the crowd is making noise. People are coming to their feet as Garrard takes the snap in the shotgun formation. He launches a ball downfield to Matt Jones with Dre’ Bly in defense and Bly reads the route, getting a hand in to break up the pass and forcing a Jacksonville punt.

12:40: After a pair of runs, it’s third-and-two from the Tampa Bay nine yard line.

Cutler’s pass is incomplete as it flys out the back of the endzone.

Broncos at Chiefs: Fourth Quarter Notes

September 28th, 2008 - 1:36pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: The Chiefs have a first-and-10 at the Denver 39 to start the fourth quarter. Bowe fires deep down the left sideline for Bowe, but he makes the grab well out of bounds near the goal line.

14:50: Huard complete to Jeff Webb for 15 yards and a first down at the Denver 23.

14:10: Huard hits Bowe for 10 yards and a first down, moving into the redzone to the Denver 13.

13:00: Huard hits Tony Gonzalez in the back of the endzone for a 13-yard touchdown. 23-13, Chiefs.

Gonzalez was injured on the play, but he got up after a few minutes and made his way to the sideline on his own.

Broncos vs. Saints: Fourth Quarter Notes

September 21st, 2008 - 4:42pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: It’s third-and-8 for the Saints on their own 36. Drew Brees drops back and finds an open receiver for a first down. There’s a flag on the play, but it’s offsides on the Broncos.

14:37: D.J. Williams puts a big hit on Reggie Bush after a three-yard gain on a pass from Brees, setting up second-and-7.

13:16: INVESCO Field at Mile High is a little less raucous as the Saints continue to pick up first downs into Broncos territory, but the Broncos still lead New Orleans by eight, they scored 34 points before the fourth quarter even began and the defense has scored a touchdown this afternoon. It’s been a pretty solid day so far — now if only Reggie Bush would stop picking up first downs.

13:16: Pierre Thomas takes a handoff and runs 10 yards in for the touchdown, diving for the pylon. The Saints elect to go for two to tie the game, but Brees’ pass falls incomplete. The Broncos lead by two over the Saints, 34-32.

September 14th, 2008 - 4:47pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: It’s a first-and-10 for the Chargers on the Denver 11-yard line. Fullback Mike Tolbert is brought down after a yard by Dre’ Bly and Marquand Manuel.

14:25: Rivers’ pass to Gates is incomplete. That brings up third-and-9 on the 10. Ebenezer Ekuban chases Rivers to the right sideline and he throws the ball away just before he rolls out of bounds.

14:08: On fourth-and-nine, Nate Kaeding jogs out for a field goal attempt and knocks through the 28-yarder. The Broncos now lead the Chargers by one point — 31-30.

14:08: After a touchback, Jay Cutler and the offense trot out to start another drive. Selvin Young goes in motion to the left sideline and makes a nice catch close to the ground on a low pass from Cutler. He jumps back up and runs forward for an eight-yard gain. Second-and-2.

13:39: Brandon Marshall makes the first-down catch over the middle. Selvin Young goes in motion again to the left sideline on first down and Cutler finds a wide-open Daniel Graham in the middle of the field. Graham turns and runs for 13 yards and a first down on the Denver 46.

Broncos at Raiders: Fourth Quarter Notes

September 8th, 2008 - 10:44pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: The Raiders start out the quarter with a long pass up the middle of the field to the Broncos 10-yard line. It’s now 1st-and-10 just outside the 10-yard line. There’s still a possibility for a first down before the goal line.

14:14: An incomplete pass brings up 2nd-and-10. Russell rolls out to the left and completes a pass to Zach Miller that gains four yards. Third-and-six and Russell runs a designed quarterback bootleg, but gets stopped in the backfield by Marlon McCree. The Raiders are going for it on fourth down.

13:08: On 4th-and-8, Lelie goes up over Paymah and grabs the Raiders’ first score of the game in the back left corner of the endzone. Sebastian Janikowski’s extra point is good, and the Broncos lead is trimmed to 20 points — 27-7.

Broncos at Cardinals: Fourth Quarter Notes

15:00: A shout-out to our own Margot Kelly, a PR intern experiencing her last game as a Bronco. Best of luck in all your future endeavors!

First play of the fourth quarter is a Hackney pass to Brett Pierce for a big gain and a first down, setting up the Broncos at the Arizona 23.

13:00: On a third-and-three, Pittman is taken down in the backfield for a loss of two. Prater comes out to try and narrow the lead with a 33-yarder, but a false start penalty backs the Broncos up. Prater goes for a 38-yarder, and it’s good. 14-13, Arizona up by one.

12:06: Prater kicks off, and it is yet another touchback. The Cardinals starting field position has almost always been at their own 20 or worse, courtesy of the Denver specialists.

Broncos vs. Packers: Fourth Quarter Notes

August 22nd, 2008 - 9:21pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by

15:00: With a fourth-and-goal from just a few inches out, the Broncos will go for it. Head Coach Mike Shanahan and Cutler both talked with Patrick Ramsey before the teams retook the field for the opening play of the fourth quarter.

15:00: Ramsey attempted to hit Clifford Russell in the back of the endzone but couldn’t make the connection as the ball passed in and out of Russell’s hands. Turnover-on-downs, and the Packers have the ball at their own one.

13:45: The Packers failed to get a first down, and with a fourth-and-three from their own eight, Jon Ryan comes in to punt the ball away. Martinez bobbled the punt, but managed to pick it up and return it 11 yards to the Packer 46-yard line.

13:30: Ramsey fires deep down the right sideline for Colbert, who made a nice adjustment to get to the ball, but he was hit hard by Jarrett Bush and couldn’t hold on.

Broncos vs. Cowboys: Fourth Quarter Notes

August 16th, 2008 - 9:21pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: The Broncos have a 2nd-and-4 at the Dallas 36. Pittman takes the handoff up the middle and gains two more yards.

14:30: Pittman takes a pitch to the right side and comes up just short of a first down — 4th and 1 at the 33 and the Broncos are going for it.

13:45: The Broncos call their second timeout — a full timeout — just as the play is about to be run.

13:45: Ramsey fakes a pitch to Pittman to the left and rolls out right, finds Colbert who had his man beat, throws behind him just a little but Colbert adjusts, catches it, turns and takes it to the 5-yard line.

12:22: Ramsey lobs a pass to the back right corner of the endzone and Clifford Russell almost goes up and gets it — it falls off his fingertips as he leans backward and falls out of the endzone. Third and goal.
