Harris Makes First Career Start

October 30th, 2011 - 2:30pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Cornerback Chris Harris opened today’s game as the nickel back, marking his first career start.

The rookie out of Kansas became the 13th college free agent in team history to make the opening-day active roster out of training camp, extending the eight-year streak.

Last week against the Dolphins, Harris was called upon as the nickel back late in the game and made two pass breakups in overtime.

“(Harris) had good football character coming out,” Head Coach John Fox said earlier this week. “He’s a guy that when you go through the college free agency—it happened a little bit later in the offseason this year—but that was kind of his M.O. coming out. He’s proved that to us over time as far as his competitive nature on the field and his work ethic to get better every day, and he has. He’s starting to reap some of those benefits.”

The rest of the Broncos starters were as follows:

Offense: QB Tim Tebow, RB Knowshon Moreno, T Ryan Clady, G Chris Kuper, C J.D. Walton, G Zane Beadles, T Orlando Franklin, WR Eric Decker, WR Eddie Royal, WR Demaryius Thomas and TE Daniel Fells.
Defense: DL M. Thomas, DL Elvis Dumervil, DL Ryan McBean, LB Von Miller, LB D.J.Williams, LB Wesley Woodyard, CB Champ Bailey, CB Andre’ Goodman, CB Chris Harris, S Brian Dawkins and S Quinton Carter.

Lions Strike Back

October 30th, 2011 - 2:25pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

A case of blown coverage helped the Lions jump into the lead with a 41-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Titus Young, who was wide open in the end zone.

A 13-yard pass from Stafford to Young just two plays earlier put Detroit in Broncos territory.

Detroit now leads 7-3.

The six-play, 80-yard drive took 2:40 off the clock, and the Broncos are set to receive the ball with 8:40 remaining in the first quarter.

Broncos Start Fast

October 30th, 2011 - 2:18pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos talked all week about starting fast, and they did just that.

The offense’s first drive of the game kicked off with a 5-yard run by Tim Tebow. From there it was a 10-yard Knowshon Moreno run, a 14-yard pass from Tebow to Eric Decker and a 34-yard run by Lance Ball to put the Broncos in the red zone.

A delay of game penalty and a 1-yard run by Moreno gave the Broncos a second-and-14 at the 21-yard line, and Tebow dropped back and fired a pass to Decker, which the receiver appeared to haul in near the back of the end zone.

It was ruled incomplete, however, and Head Coach John Fox challenged the ruling on the field. After a look at the replay, the refs still determined that Decker didn’t both feet in bounds with possession.

Scoreless After One

October 23rd, 2011 - 11:42am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

We’re scoreless at Sun Life Stadium after the first quarter.

Here are some notable stats:

Both teams have three first downs, and neither team has converted a third down.

The Dolphins have 61 total yards and the Broncos have 52. Denver leads in rushing yards 48 to 20, powered by Willis McGahee’s 29 yards.

Tim Tebow is 2-for-3 for 8 yards, and has tacked on 19 rushing yards on three attempts. He has been sacked once, and has a passer rating of 70.1.

On defense, so far Jonathan Wilhite leads the team in tackles, and Brian Dawkins has one of the highlights of the first frame with an 11-yard sack of Matt Moore.

The Dolphins are driving in Denver territory, however.

Broncos at Chargers: Second Quarter Notes

December 28th, 2008 - 8:05pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

15:00: On first down, LaDainian Tomlinson takes a carry up the middle for 12 yards, setting up another first down at the Denver 26-yard line.

He takes a carry again on second down, but is brought down by John Engelberger after a gain of only two.

13:45: Second-and-8 for the Chargers. Philip Rivers looks to be calling an audible at the line and tries to call a timeout before the play clock winds down — but there’s a flag on the play. The flag is picked up, however, no delay of game. They grant the Chargers their first timeout of the half.

13:39: Rivers overthrows his target in the end zone, setting up a third-and-8 for San Diego. Rivers is in the shotgun, takes the snap and finds Antonio Gates — but he’s short of the first-down marker.

Fourth-and-a short 1 for the Chargers. The offense stays on the field. It’s another quarterback sneak and Rivers barely picks up the first. Not much of a push for the Chargers offensive line.
