COIN TOSS: Wesley Woodyard, Brian Dawkins, Russ Hochstein, Kyle Orton, Mario Haggan and Jabar Gaffney stepped to midfield as captains for the coin toss. Detroit calls heads — and it is heads. The Lions elect to receive, so Matt Prater is out for the kickoff to get the game underway.

14:56: David Bruton gets the game started with a tackle of Tim Toone at the 20-yard line, where the Lions will start their drive. The first play of the game is a short pass to Jahvid Best, followed a run by Best. On third-and-4, Matthew Stafford is in the shotgun formation. The quarterback drops back and tries to find Calvin Johnson, but the pass falls incomplete. There is a flag on the play, however — rather, a hat thrown by the ref. As it turns out, there were two fouls on the play — an illegal formation on the Lions and pass interference on the Broncos. The penalties offset and it’s third down again.

13:37: On the following play, Stafford drops back and finds Nate Burleson for the first down. The next play brings a run by Best, and the back picks up a big chunk of yards, plus 15 — Brian Dawkins is called for a facemask. The next play is another first down pass from Stafford to the Denver 12-yard line.

10:45: After an incompletion, the Lions face a third-and-7 from the Denver 9-yard line. Stafford sets up in the shotgun and fires a pass toward Johnson in the back corner of the end zone, but Andre’ Goodman is right there in coverage and the pass falls incomplete. Kicker Steven Hauschka is out to attempt a short field goal — and he knocks home the 28-yarder to give the Lions the lead.

Q3 15:00: Matt Prater is about to kick off, and Jordan Shipley is deep to receive for the Bengals. Shipley returns it to the 20-yard line.

Q3 14:45: Bernard Scott is chased out of bounds by Baraka Atkins, but there are two flags on the play. First, personal foul on the offense for a late hit. Second was a holding penalty on the offense, which was accepted by the Broncos for a 10-yard penalty. On first-and-20, J.T. O’Sullivan finds Shipley for a 5-yard gain before the receiver is brought down by Joe Mays. On second down, O’Sullivan sets up a screen pass to Scott, and the running back gets all the way to the Denver 39-yard line. Darcel McBath and Mays are down after the play.

Q3 13:38: Both players walk off the field under their own power, flanked by trainers. On the ensuing first down, the Bengals pick up another first down on an O’Sullivan-to-Jerome Simpson connection for a 21-yard gain. Scott picks up 2 yards on first down, followed by an incomplete pass intended for Andre Caldwell. On third-and-8 at the Denver 16-yard line, O’Sullivan finds Shipley, but Johnny Williams is there for the tackle short of the first-down marker. After the 6-yard gain, Dave Rayner kicks a 27-yard field goal to give Cincinnati the league.

Q3 11:26: Matthew Willis returns the kickoff to the 22-yard line, and Brady Quinn jogs back to the huddle at quarterback. Of the starters, only Zane Beadles and J.D. Walton remain in the game. The rest of the first-teamers appear to be done for the day.

COIN TOSS: After a moment of silence in honor of former Bengal Icky Woods’ son, who recently passed away, and the National Anthem, the teams are ready for the coin toss. Daniel Graham, Kyle Orton, Champ Bailey and Wesley Woodyard are captains. The Broncos call tails, and it is tails. Denver elects to receive, and the game is about to get underway.

Q1 15:00: Perrish Cox is back deep to receive, and the rookie fields the kickoff at the 4-yard line. He finds some room and gets it out to the 28-yard line, where the offense will start the game. The starters are Orton at quarterback, Lance Ball at running back, Graham and Marquez Branson at tight end, Jabar Gaffney and Brandon Lloyd at receiver, D’Anthony Batiste, Zane Beadles, J.D. Walton, Russ Hochstein and Ryan Harris on the offensive line.

Q1 14:17: After a 31-yard gain on a pass from Orton to Lloyd on first down, the quarterback finds Ball out of the backfield for a four-yard gain. On second-and-6, Orton completes it to Branson for a first down on the Cincinnati 29-yard line.

Q1 13:07: Ball takes a handoff for a gain of four to the 25-yard line on first down before being taken down by Tank Johnson. Second down brings another pass from Orton, this one intended for Gaffney in the left side of the end zone, but the pass sails incomplete. On third-and-6, the crowd at Paul Brown Stadium gets loud, and Orton drops back intot he shotgun. Eddie Royal has entered the game, and Orton fires a pass toward Graham in the middle of the field. The pass was tipped and falls incomplete, but Ortonw as roughed by Tank Johnson on the play — a penalty good for half the distance to the goal and a first down at the 13-yard line.

Q1 12:19: The ensuing play is a pass from Orton to Royal, and the third-year receiver weaves his way through the defense before diving into the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. Matt Prater knocks home the extra point, and Denver now leads Cincinnati by a score of 7-0.
