Arrington, Harris and Thomas on the Field

June 4th, 2010 - 11:46am by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

Friday’s passing camp was called an “opportunity practice” for rookies and veterans new to the system. Several new faces took that opportunity to practice for the first time, including the team’s top 2010 draft pick, Demaryius Thomas.

Two players not on the field were Kyle Orton — one of the veterans who worked out separately — and Tom Brandstater, who Head Coach Josh McDaniels said the team has released.

“The reps have been dwindling, and to try to continue to keep a guy in a loop where he can be a competitive player on your team with very few reps, it’s hard to do,” McDaniels said. “I didn’t say (Brandstater) wasn’t a fit, we’ve just got three guys who are a better fit than he is.”

“Tom is going to go somewhere else and have an opportunity to make a career for himself,” he continued. “Certainly nothing that he did was negative or bad, it just wasn’t quite as good as the other guys. That’s the NFL.”

Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow split the repetitions during Friday’s practice.

Learning on the Run

Knowshon Moreno has been there.

Well, every NFL player has been there at one point — putting on the pads for the first time and trying to play with the big boys as a rookie.

“It’s a little bit of pressure, it’s something new,” Moreno said. “You’re around new people, a new system — you’ve really got to hit that book and learn as fast as you can because it’s all going so fast.”

Speed seems to be a common theme when discussing rookies.

It is often said that the “speed of the game” is so much faster in the NFL than in college. Tim Tebow isn’t one to argue with that point, but he clarified that it doesn’t always refer to the speed of the players.

“It’s not necessarily how fast guys are, because they don’t necessarily get faster, but what they do get is a lot quicker as far as their thinking,” Tebow said. “There are guys jumping in and out of coverages and so I think that’s where the game speeds up for you.”

Breaking Down The Draft

April 26th, 2010 - 10:03am by mike_riceOther posts by

The hype and hoopla that is the NFL draft is now over. Soon we will find out who can play and who can’t.

Some impressions of the Broncos 2010 draft:

1 – I LOVE THE TIM TEBOW PICK. One could probably make the case that the Broncos overpaid the Ravens to get back into the first round to select Tebow. That doesn’t bother me.

Thomas, Tebow, Marshall, Scheffler

Been in and out of the country for the last month emceeing a few charity events so you haven’t heard much from me. Both benefit Cystic Fibrosis. Boomer Esiasons raised money for kids in Costa Rica which was wonderful considering how much they need the support. Was in Costa Rica at Boomer Esiason offshore event in Golfito, Costa Rica, and on Abaco in the Bahamas for the Bakers Bay Celebrity Bonefish Classic. I know, I know…. poor Coop, right. Well, it was tough doing business on a satellite phone and as most of you know, I work to go fish. :o )

P.S. find a charity and do something that’s helps someone less fortunate.

DAY ONE: Love the picks, yep, what do you think?

2010 NFL Draft First Round Live Blog

April 22nd, 2010 - 4:37pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

4:30 p.m. MST: Here we are, finally just an hour away from the 2010 NFL Draft. It has been a long day of anticipation for the website team here at Dove Valley, and I imagine it’s the same story for plenty of you.

The plan for this blog is to keep you updated, pick-by-pick, until the Broncos make their first selection. After the pick comes, we’ll turn our focus to geting as much content as we can about the player the team selects, and leave the blog for you all to comment away.

Rather than with the live blog format you’re used to from games this past season, you’ll have to refresh this page occasionally to check out the updates. That’s so we can add photos and videos throughout the blog — including an exclusive look inside the team’s war room.

Speaking of the war room, the PR and web departments have our own war room set up in a conference room. The TV is tuned to the draft, we’ve got our computers in front of us and a depressing lack of snacks.
