Bruton to Participate in Investment for Impact Program

April 2nd, 2013 - 11:22am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Broncos safety David Bruton is one of 23 current and former NFL players scheduled to take part in the NFL’s Investment for Impact program this offseason.

The NFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial’s Investment for Impact event will be held from April 18-21 at the University of Notre Dame, which is Bruton’s alma matter.

The program includes keynote speakers and panel discussions featuring academic experts and corporate executives, as well as a business planning workshop, a session matching players with faculty mentors, a “venture fair,” and a trip to the Annual Notre Dame Blue-Gold Football Scrimmage.

“The opportunity to play in the NFL has provided a platform to have an impact on our communities,” said Brady Quinn, a six-year NFL veteran who helped develop the program. “It is my hope that through the Notre Dame Entrepreneurial program, attendees may learn how to invest with an impact for the greater good.”

How the Broncos Will Watch the First Round

January 3rd, 2013 - 2:42pm by Sam DavisOther posts by

As the Broncos rest their bodies this weekend and mentally prepare to play in the Divisional Round, most players will enjoy watching the NFL’s Wild Card games.

Four games will take place on Saturday and Sunday. Three of the four teams playing in the AFC could potentially be Denver’s opponent next Saturday, Jan. 12th.

Should Cincinnati defeat Houston on Saturday, the Broncos will host the Bengals in Denver for the Divisional Round. If Houston wins that game, Denver’s opponent will be the winner of the Baltimore-Indianapolis matchup.

“I’ll definitely check out the Bengals, and Indianapolis (versus) the Ravens,” linebacker Von Miller said. “I definitely have to check out those games. Those games are the more important games to pay attention to and to watch this week but I’ll be paying attention to all the games this week.”

Miller added that he will try to watch every game, and might join fellow edge-rusher Elvis Dumervil at his house to enjoy the games together. The NFC matchup that Miller particularly has his eyes on features a pair of rookie quarterbacks.

Manning Leads Pro Bowl Votes

November 14th, 2012 - 2:07pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Voting for the 2013 Pro Bowl has been underway for about three weeks, and the early returns are in.

Quarterback Peyton Manning leads all vote-getters for the all-star game with 376,981 votes, and therefore is first in line at his position on the AFC squad.

Plenty more Broncos are among the top-five at their respective positions in the AFC, including outside linebackers Von Miller and Wesley Woodyard, who are one and two among AFC vote-getters.

The Broncos also have two wide receivers near the top of AFC voting — Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker are currently ranked Nos. 4 and 5 at their position.

Fullback Chris Gronkowski is currently No. 5 at his position, tight end Jacob Tamme is No. 5 at his position, Ryan Clady is No. 3 among AFC tackles, Zane Beadles is the second-highest vote-getter among AFC guards, center Dan Koppen is currently fourth in votes at his position, defensive end Elvis Dumervil ranks second, Champ Bailey is third among AFC cornerbacks, Rahim Moore is the fifth AFC free safety, Matt Prater is the No. 4 kicker, Britton Colquitt is the No. 4 punter, Trindon Holliday is the No. 5 returner and David Bruton is the No. 4 AFC special-teamer.

Broncos Read to Children at John Amesse Elementary

September 25th, 2012 - 4:55pm by Tyler EverettOther posts by

Students at John Amesse Elementary School were treated to guest appearances from Miles the Mascot and five Broncos — defensive linemen Malik Jackson, Sealver Siliga and Ben Garland as well as safety David Bruton and tight end Julius Thomas.

Each of the players visited multiple classrooms and read “Oh, the Places You’ll Go,” by Dr. Seuss to the enthusiastic young students. After reading, each player also answered students’ questions. The main purpose of the event was to encourage kids to do their best in the classroom, which is something Bruton said is now more important than ever.

“Especially with how today’s job forces are, everything needs some type of college education,” said Bruton, who spent time as a substitute teacher in the 2011 offseason. “Every single one of them has mentioned that they want to go to college and graduate and be doctors and lawyers. They’re very ambitious kids. You just have to instill that message that it’s not given to them. Once you get out of high school, you have another four years or eight years or 12 years of school after that. You have to take each day one day at a time, but do great things with them.”

Broncos vs. Seahawks: Quotables

August 19th, 2012 - 12:42am by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Head Coach John Fox

On QB Peyton Manning’s performance
“I was pretty pleased with the first half. Other than the 0-3 turnover margin, I thought we did pretty good to take the lead 10-9 before the half. You would have liked it to be better as far as the points because we dropped a couple points off with filed position. Again, something to build on and something to get better from.”

On contemplating going on fourth down before the end of the half
“We thought about it but in these games, kind of based on first, you like to have the lead and you like to win when your ones are out there so the more sure thing was the field goal.”

On the defense in the first half
“I thought we were a little shoddier. We came in the game a little light on defense as well and that kind of showed as the game progressed but I think it’s fairly evident we have a lot of work to do in that area.”

Bruton Plays Santa

December 25th, 2011 - 2:36pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

David Bruton is no stranger to helping out in the community.

He’s volunteered at Boys and Girls Clubs, participated in Shop with a Bronco events and supported his teammates with their foundations.

But this Christmas, he wanted to do something a little different.

He adopted a family through the Denver Rescue Mission Christmas Wish list, an annual program the rescue mission facilitates for families in need.

So he took a shopping list with him and got to work. Well, it was less work and more fun.

“I love shopping for kids, so I even put on a Captain America mask, I had the shield and I was shopping with that for a little bit, just having a good old time,” Bruton said.

Point of No Return

October 22nd, 2010 - 3:10pm by Gabe HiattOther posts by

Explosive was the word of the week.

Since Monday, Head Coach Josh McDaniels and his players have talked about the physically gifted players that fill up the Raiders roster. On Friday, the talk turned to special teams.

“They’re the biggest team, the fastest team and the strongest team that you’re going to find in the NFL,” Joe Mays said. “It carries over to their special teams, no doubt.”

Next Guy Up

October 11th, 2010 - 4:43pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

With the news that five defensive players — including three starters — will sit out Sunday’s home matchup with the New York Jets, the Broncos locker room shared a simple philosophy.

“The next guy up has got to perform,” said David Bruton, who said he’ll be ready to take advantage of his opportunity if he’s asked to step in at safety with Brian Dawkins and Darcel McBath out.

Bruton started a Week 15 matchup against Oakland last season when Renaldo Hill sat out with an injury, registering five tackles and a pass breakup. He said that experience has made him more confident while approaching a similar circumstance this week.

Speed Rush

September 22nd, 2010 - 3:17pm by Gabe HiattOther posts by

Demaryius Thomas summed up the Colts defense in two players.

“Two defensive ends that play,” he said. “The whole defense is fast.”

Head Coach Josh McDaniels took a similar stance.

“They have very disruptive players, which starts with Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis on the edge — who get to the quarterback plenty and also take the ball away,” he said.
