Much More Than Football

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Given that the holiday season is now upon us, I wanted to take a break from talking football for just a few days. We still have plenty of time for that and it will be fun to watch the Broncos down the stretch.

In a time, however, when many people are in need and many people are hurting, I thought it worthwhile to take a moment to talk about how much the Broncos try to reach out and make this community a better place to live.

It is always easy to point to companies, organizations or people with a lot of resources, time or both as the ones who should be leading the way in helping others. We all have a part to play and the fact is the Broncos, both individually and as an organization, help people in amazing ways.

The Broncos’ annual Tackle Hunger Campaign is slated to begin on Sunday at INVESCO Field at Mile High leading up to the team’s Week 5 Legacy Game against the Boston Patriots.

From 12-2 p.m., wives of Broncos players, as well as Broncos staff members, will be accepting cash donations at all gates and in the Broncos Barn. All donations benefit COMPA Food Ministry and Denver’s Road Home.

The Broncos’ Tackle Hunger Campaign has taken place for more than 20 years. Remember, this year’s initiative continues throughout the month of October. Away from the stadium, cash and food donations can be made all month at all King Soopers locations while food donations can be made at U.S. Bank offices.

Sixth Annual Broncos Bowl Brings International Flavor To INVESCO Field

August 4th, 2009 - 11:32am by Cindy KelloggOther posts by Cindy Kellogg

Saturday, August 1st, 2009, marked an historic day for youth football in Colorado when the Broncos welcomed a first-ever international youth team — the Panama Marlins –  to Broncos Bowl.  The Marlins kicked off the day with a hard fought win against the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club.

The day advanced under bright Colorado sunshine with five more games:  Wheat Ridge Crushers vs. Broomfield Youth Football Spartans; Legacy Lightning vs. Green Valley Giants; Colorado Springs Boys & Girls Club Vikings vs. City of Fort Collins; Arapahoe Youth League Warriors Red vs. Aurora Crush; and Denver Public Schools Futures North Vikings vs. Pueblo Shamrocks.

Every player that day experienced the feeling of running out of the tunnel to a formal introduction on the 50-yard line and then played a full game on an NFL home turf.  Fans were treated to some exciting play by these youngsters, including some near full-field touchdown runs.
