Broncos vs. Bears: Key Plays

December 11th, 2011 - 10:55pm by Stuart ZaasOther posts by

Fourth-and-6 from the Chicago 11 (7:27, 1st quarter): Julius Peppers blocked Matt Prater’s 28-yard field goal attempt, stopping the Broncos’ momentum that was building from the 15-play drive that took Denver from its own 29 all the way down to the Chicago 11.

Fourth-and-1 from the Denver 22 (8:55, 3rd quarter): Devin Hester returned Britton Colquitt’s 46-yard punt 26 yards to the Broncos 42. The Bears took advantage of that excellent field position, turning it into a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Marion Barber to take a 7-0 lead.

Third-and-27 from the Chicago 45 (0:18, 3rd quarter): Facing a third-and-long, Caleb Hanie found Barber out of the backfield for a gain of 16 to put the Bears back in field goal range. On the next play, Robbie Gould converted a 57-yard field goal to increase Chicago’s lead to 10-0.

Broncos vs. Bears: Quotables

Head Coach John Fox

On winning games in the final minutes
“I think we are rewriting the book on ‘keep fighting.’ Our guys never blink. They remain positive. As bad as it looked today—we didn’t play well—we had some drops, but a guy that dropped a couple passes caught the winning touchdown. That’s kind of the M.O. on this bunch. I’ve said it before, I said it last week, but I want to thank the good lord in that locker room and that staff because they’ve kept fighting and done a heck of a job.”

On the six-game win streak
“I’ve been blessed to have been around really good players, really good coaches and some great seasons. They’re all unique because you’re dealing with people and it’s all different faces. This has been a fun ride. I don’t think we are done yet. It’s hard to really compare. It’s like comparing great players to one another. I don’t think you can really do that, and I don’t think you can do that with teams either. This one is unique and been a lot of fun.”

On his confidence in the team
“Coaches are all different, but they don’t let us get inside the lines. It’s about those guys. The key is I can believe all I want. Until they start believing, you’re not going to be much. And they believe. That’s the key, it’s them.”

On QB Tim Tebow’s ability to lead the team
“I think he’s huge. You don’t have to ask his teammates, but we’ve got a real tight-knit group. I want to give Tim, obviously, a lot of credit, but I think there are a lot of guys in there that are pretty special. I think that’s what good teams do.”

On Tebow’s clutch ability
“He’s a very humble young man. He’s a very hard working young man. Kudos to his parents. I think he is really good in the clutch. He’s one of those guys that, in my opinion, has competitive greatness. He wants the ball in clutch time. I think he’s done it for some time in his career, and he’s doing it now with the Denver Broncos.”
