Bailey, McGahee & Dumervil with NFLN’s Irvin

January 8th, 2012 - 2:14pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin sat down with Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey, running back Willis McGahee and defensive end Elvis Dumervil to discuss the season for the AFC West champions and to preview this afternoon’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On his thoughts when he heard about Tim Tebow being named the starting quarterback:

Willis McGahee: “You don’t ever know when it’s going to be your turn, and it was Tebow’s turn and we couldn’t do anything but wait and see what he can do. When he brought us back for that Miami game and won, it felt like we might have a little shot here. And then we won another one, and we just got on a little roll.

On the six-game winning streak:

McGahee: “It was crazy. I was never a part of anything like that. But the good thing about it was everybody was having fun; in the locker room everybody was happy. We were just loving it.”

Bailey Looking for Takeaways

January 5th, 2012 - 4:16pm by Max HensonOther posts by

Five third-down conversions against; 281 total yards surrendered;
seven points allowed in a Week 17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

For the most part, it was a performance the Denver defense could be proud of.

But cornerback Champ Bailey wasn’t satisfied -– particularly with the Broncos’ lack of takeaways.

“We’ve got to play better,” Bailey said. “We played good in the second half last week, but we still didn’t get any turnovers. We’ve got to get turnovers to help our offense.”

Notebook: Beware of Bowe

December 29th, 2011 - 4:56pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

For the third time in four seasons, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark.

That doesn’t surprise Champ Bailey, who will most likely spend the majority of his day matched up against the talented wideout.

“He’s tough every time I face him,” Bailey said. “He’s one of my biggest challenges, and I look forward to it every time because I know he’s going to give his best shot. It’s just his size and speed — the combination of both. And he’s so deceptive with his speed in route-running, because he can start and stop just like a quick guy. He’s dangerous.”

On Thursday, Champ Bailey was presented with the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award.

The award, given by the Denver chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America, is voted on by the local media and presented to the player that best exemplifies Darrent Williams’ enthusiasm, cooperation and honesty while dealing with members of the press.

“It’s for somebody who handles the job with professionalism, win or lose,” said the Denver Post’s Jeff Legwold when presenting Bailey with the award. “Being that you played with Darrent, we all think it’s a pretty good idea to give it to you this year.”

Today is the last day to vote your favorite Broncos into the Pro Bowl.

At the conclusion of the Monday Night Football game between the Steelers and 49ers, fan voting for the Pro Bowl will close. Fan votes account for one-third of the total votes, so there’s still time to bump your favorite Broncos up the lists.

When we checked in late last week, six Broncos players were among the top-five vote getters for their respective positions in the AFC: Quarterback Tim Tebow (third), running back Willis McGahee (fifth), outside linebacker Von Miller (second), cornerback Champ Bailey (fourth), strong safety Brian Dawkins (fourth) and punter Britton Colquitt (second).

The teams will be announced Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 5 p.m. MST on a special NFL Total Access 2012 Pro Bowl Selection Show on NFL Network.

The game will be played on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012.

Belichick Respects Tebow, Broncos

December 14th, 2011 - 11:58am by Max HensonOther posts by

Tim Tebow and the Broncos have surprised a lot of people with their six-game win streak and subsequent surge to the top of the AFC West standings.

Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick isn’t one of them.

“We’ve seen Tim perform well many, many times, so I don’t think it’s a surprise,” Belichick said of Tebow’s success in a conference call. “He’s a good football player. He knows how to win, and he takes care of the ball. He makes good decisions.”

Belichick has known Tebow since his collegiate days at Florida and in 2010 he brought Tebow to New England for a pre-draft visit to get to know the quarterback even better.

Now he’s preparing his team to play against Tebow and the streaking Broncos.

Champ Bailey and several of his teammates dedicated their time to give back to the community with a visit to The Crossing, a transitional housing facility, on Tuesday evening.

The Crossing is a clean and safe residential community providing long-term rehabilitation and transitional housing to individuals and families who desire to achieve a life of self-sufficiency and community contribution.

Bailey, who has been involved with The Crossing since early in his Broncos career, brought along many of his Broncos teammates, including Rahim Moore, Demaryius Thomas, Marcus Thomas and Wesley Woodyard, to the annual holiday event.
