The Denver Broncos two home preseason games this year feature a matchup against the longtime rivals from the AFC West, the Seattle Seahawks, and this week the Broncos will kick off preseason play against one of their oldest rivals, the Buffalo Bills.

The journey that is the 2010 season has begun for the Denver Broncos.

It has started out as an interesting journey, to say the least. Undoubtedly, the Broncos did not expect the trailhead to be frought with adversity.

But so it is.

Center of the Fooball Universe

This is the week of the pro football calendar in which Canton, Ohio, returns to its status as the center of all activity for our game.

It’s Hall of Fame week, beginning with a Thursday night dinner and culminating with the Hall of Fame game, always a sellout on national television.

I am personally looking forward to it not just because Floyd Little is getting inducted, but because to anyone that has had season tickets for a long time — and I became a season ticket holder in the early 1960′s, in addition to having worked here since 1978 — Floyd Little truly was “The Franchise,” and that’s not a nickname that ever leaves him.

2010 Training Camp Day 4: P.M. Blog

After a brief lightning delay, the Broncos were back on the practice field for their evening workout. The rain subsided quickly, allowing players to take the field about thirty minutes later than the scheduled start of practice.

Fans readied themselves for the weather with raincoats and Broncos-orange ponchos, and two observers stood out in  day-glo yellow jumpsuits.

By the Numbers: 44

I thought it might be fun to have a series of blogs (and, since it’s my blog, whatever I think might be fun seems pretty likely to find its way into print) on Broncos by the numbers.

The team has just completed 50 years of play, a milestone in any franchise history, and over that time a lot of players have made contributions, large and small, to what the Broncos are. It’s like family members, some more accomplished than others but when you are in a family, you are in for keeps. So too for the Broncos. Once a Broncos, always a Bronco.

Those players have worn a lot of numbers over the years, and we are going to take a look, over time, at various uniform numbers.

With the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies now about 10 days away, let’s take a look at Denver Broncos uniform number “44″.

Decker Signs

Eric Decker

The new No. 87 is officially a Denver Bronco. Rookie Eric Decker signed with the team on Tuesday, so he’ll report for the first day of camp for rookies and early reporting veterans on Wednesday.

In addition the team waived linebacker Bruce Davis and offensive lineman Chris Marinelli.

Decker, a former University of Minnesota star, has been gearing up for training camp by slowly building his workload on an injured foot that kept him out of minicamp. The foot felt good enough for him to fully participate in Larry Fitzgerald’s receivers camp held at Decker’s alma mater.

A Treat for the Fans

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – The Broncos faithful will get their first taste of NFL stadium action for the 2010 season at 6 p.m. on August 7. INVESCO Field at Mile High turns into a practice field for the night, hosting a free training camp session open to the public.

Last year the swath of 13,402 fans who attended the event made it the most highly attended practice in franchise history, so fans are encouraged to head over to the stadium early to avoid the delays from the large crowds.

Holding a practice in the stadium allows to team run the gamut of scenarios that might come up in an NFL contest.

Broncos Top Sellers

The numbers from NFLshop.com show how excited the members of Broncos Country are about the upcoming season.

No NFL team sold more merchandise than the Broncos from the official NFL retail site from April 1 to June 30. Rounding out the top five were the Saints, the Cowboys, the Steelers and the Giants.

Tim Tebow has yet to take a snap as a NFL quarterback, but he’s already beating out Donovan McNabb, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in one category.

Tebow’s No. 15 is the top selling NFL player jersey on the site during the same time span.
