A Final Farewell

May 20th, 2008 - 7:51am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

This will be my last blog entry – although I guess maybe I could come back maybe as a guest way, way in the future. It has been a little over a year and all of the fans have gotten an opportunity to get to know me and understand what I have going on in my head and off the head. I think I should allow someone else the opportunity to do so. Good luck to whoever that ends up being. It’s been great getting to know all of your through your messages. I appreciate everybody. I am going to miss it. It’s become an enjoyable part of my career, but I can’t be stingy. I have to share the wonderful internet fans with someone else. So, again, this will be my last one, but I might peek my head back into the blog every now and then.

First day of camp was great. Personally, I was a little rusty, but I’m starting to get back into the swing of things, but it was a lot of fun to get back out there for practice. One great thing about this time of year is that there are endless possibilities. We have high expectations and stuff.

I haven’t gotten a good chance to look at the new rookies and free agents yet. I imagine that they are getting acclimated to the NFL life and the mile-high altitude.

Award Winning Broncos

May 6th, 2008 - 8:13pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

I went to the Denver Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year banquet that I went to on Friday. I was there with Champ and Boss Bailey, who came with his wife. It was my second year going, I went the year before. It’s always a great function because it is a big fundraiser. They raise tons and tons of money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

They honor somebody every year – last year they honored Pat Hamill, who is the Chairman of Oakwood Homes. He and I have become friends since then. This year, they honored Pat Bowlen, who is one of my favorite people in the world, he signs my checks. I guess I have to change my name to Pat to be honored by them.

It’s a great event to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club. One of the cool things about it is the entertainment is singing and dancing and poems written and performed by kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. It’s always impressive because the kids are really, really talented. Since I’m normally at the Boys and Girls Club once a week – the Broncos branch – I know a lot of the kids that won and I know a lot of the kids that performed. So, it’s very personal which is pretty cool.

Tender Signed

April 22nd, 2008 - 3:39pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

The most significant thing that happened was I signed my tender. It’s great, I am happy to be back with the Broncos. Just the more time you spend in the business the more you learn. The ins and outs, the good and the bad. But I am very happy to be able to spend another year — barring anything akward like a trade. I am happy I will be spending another year here in Denver — a city that I have grown to love. Colorado is a great place.

It was weird all offseason because I had a contract pending with the Broncos, it felt like I was on an episode of “Deal or No Deal.” The Broncos offered me a case and I looked around at the rest of the cases and there were no other lucrative cases, so I pressed the button last Friday. I am very happy about the decision I made and happy to be back for another year.

I am also looking forward to focusing on corner, which should allow me to make a lot more plays and return to the very talented young corner that I was before I started bouncing around and filling in for the team at safety and various other positions. I am very excited about signing some new guys, which keep me at corner and I can rekindle my corner talent.

Guitar Hero with Peyton Manning?

January 22nd, 2008 - 2:56pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

Let’s see, what have I been up to? Well I have been keeping my writing group going and we had some pretty good classes, some better ones than usual which is always fun. That is probably one of my focuses now that we are in the offseason and we are unfortunately not playing anymore, is spending time at the Boys and Girls Club. I still get up and work out in the mornings over at Dove Valley and everyday that I am over there I spend about an hour or more with my guys from the equipment room and go and support their basketball team. They were 2-1 before I started going to the games and now they are 0-2 since I have been going. So hopefully I am not bad luck.

I did get away for a little bit. I went to New York during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday and saw The Color Purple. It was ok, I am not much into musicals but my girl wanted to see it so I went with her. It was fun and as good as a musical could be.

Happy Holidays

December 25th, 2007 - 6:11am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

Happy Holidays to everyone.

I wish everybody a happy and fun and safe holiday season. I will keep it short since it is the holiday season and I don’t want to take up everybody’s time.

Hopefully you’ll be able to spend it with your family making good holiday memories. I have a lot of great holiday memories myself. I remember being a kid trying to sneak down to open the presents before Christmas and always getting caught. Those were the good old days. Christmas doesn’t quite have the same excitement as it did back then but it’s still a lot of fun. I still enjoy the season.

Impressive Youngsters

December 11th, 2007 - 8:53am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

Go Broncos.

We had a pretty good game. It was impressive. I’m very proud of the entire team — offense, defense, special teams. Everybody stepped up and played probably the best game we’ve had all season.

I think the character of this team has been a theme throughout the season. It’s been tested often and I think we continue to show a lot of positive signs in spite of our record. I think lesser men or lesser teams probably would’ve folded and not given as great an effort as we did given our current situation. I’m still proud of this team and proud of the guys on this team and especially what we accomplished this past weekend.

Still Determined

December 4th, 2007 - 2:40pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

It’s been an eventful week. Most of the events were positive, but probably the most important event of the week is our game and that was definitely negative.

It’s been a really tumultuous season.  I guess “tumultuous” would be a good word to describe it thus far. Fortunately, we have four more games which is definitely a lot. Our playoff destiny is no longer 100 percent in our hands — which is difficult — but we still have a chance, so I think it’s important that we try to step up and sustain some consistency and shoot for the highest goal. I think that’s the only thing we can do and that’s the culture of this organization and of this city.

Plaudits for My Fellow Blogger

Domonique Foxworth

Domonique Foxworth was so taken aback by being named the Broncos’ Walter Payton Man of the Year recipient Friday that he had no clue that he was now a nominee for the league-wide award, bestowed upon one player during Super Bowl week.

“Wow,” he said, laughing. “It hasn’t even crossed my mind. Technically I’m in the running for that?”

Indeed he is, I told him.

“That’s a good one,” he said. “We all know that’s not happening.”

Ah, humility. It’s one of my fellow blogger’s finer traits.

Sure, it means he’ll dismiss his chances of winning the league-wide Payton award.

But I would personally beg to differ and claim that no one could be more deserving this year, not with a flood tide of off-field activites that range from teaching a writing class to promoting collegeincolorado.org and even opening his life to fans via his blog.

An Emotional Game, but a Great Win

October 23rd, 2007 - 12:31pm by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

Alright, time for another fun and exciting blog with everybody’s favorite Bronco, Domonique Foxworth.

Well, this is probably going to be the most fun blog that I’ve done in quite some time — at least four weeks — because we got a win. I played a large role in the game, which is always a good feeling, especially coming off a couple weeks missed by injuries and several losses in a row, which We as Broncos players and you as Broncos fans are not accustomed to. But it made the win feel that much better, I guess.

It’s something to be proud of, because the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the top teams and are respected for being one of the toughest and most talented teams in the AFC. To be able to get a win against them and play well is great. We played probably as well as we have so far on special teams and played pretty well on defense. I think we did great on special teams, which is one of the most underrated things about football, how important field position is. That’s all decided through special teams. We had some great coverage in kickoffs this year for the first time this season. We also had some pretty good returns, and had an all-around solid special teams game.

On offense we were able to score touchdowns, which has been something that’s been difficult for us this year. We were able to score touchdowns, which are a lot better than field goals. We made some turnovers and even scored on defense this week, so I think we played just about as well as we’ve played, as far as a complete game is concerned, this year.

Rooting for the Rockies

October 16th, 2007 - 10:53am by domonique_foxworthOther posts by domonique_foxworth

Well, I guess the big news in Denver is how well the Rockies have been playing, and they’re in the World Series. The Broncos are behind them 100 percent, as I said in earlier weeks. It kind of reminds me of my days in college where we always had a really great basketball team and our football team was really good also. It was a good, friendly competition and we competed against them and rooted for them at the same time. It was just fun. Denver is a tight-knit community in the same sense and it kind of gives me that same feeling, where we can’t wait to support them and we hope they feel the same way about us. We definitely need to raise our play as we’ve been talking about around here for a couple weeks to meet the Rockies’ production right now. But that doesn’t change how we feel about the way they’ve been playing. We’re really excited and impressed with them and hope they can bring a championship to Denver, then hope that it’s contagious also.

The bye week was great, just to get away, get out of Denver for a bit to see some people who are important to me and spend some time away from football, which sometimes is the best thing, especially when things aren’t going so well. It helps you get things into perspective and come back and really want to practice. I think that was one of the nice things about the bye week is when you get here, you really want to practice and you really want to be with the guys, especially after you have a bad taste in your mouth like we have had from the last couple weeks. It’s just so important for us to get out there and try to get everything in line. When we’re practicing, there’s an attention to detail that we haven’t had before, or had since I’ve been here, to be honest. There’s no room for any mistakes, whereas in years past, it’s understood that we’re not perfect and there are going to be some mistakes throughout a practice. We work through the mistakes and then correct them on film. But now, if there’s a mistake on a play, we’ll repeat it immediately and make sure everything’s cleared up, right on the spot, on both sides of the ball. There’s really no room for error.
