Dreessen 12th Colorado Prep/College/Bronco

March 28th, 2012 - 8:02am by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

With the very recent signing of Joel Dreessen to a Denver Broncos contract, his return home prompted me to take a look at the common bond he shares with other previous Broncos.

This blog won’t be about Peyton Manning and might not be as interesting to some readers, but it might be a fun look at 12 players who grew up in Colorado, played high school football in our state, went on to play college football in Colorado, and then reached the NFL with the Broncos, the team that all of them grew up watching.

Dreessen went to Fort Morgan High School and was on the state 3A championship tam there in 1999. He had the added honor of being named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete, making him the only Bronco player ever to have a Colorado prep state title, NFF scholar/athlete status, plus in state college play (Colorado State) and ultimately the Broncos. When you can count the list on a single thumb, that’s a short list to be on.

By the Numbers: 11

I thought it might be fun to have a series of blogs (and, since it’s my blog, whatever I think might be fun seems pretty likely to find its way into print) on Broncos by the numbers.

The team has just completed 50 years of play, a milestone in any franchise history, and over that time a lot of players have made contributions, large and small, to what the Broncos are. It’s like family members, some more accomplished than others but when you are in a family, you are in for keeps. So too for the Broncos. Once a Broncos, always a Bronco.

Those players have worn a lot of numbers over the years, and we are going to take a look, over time, at various uniform numbers.

Game day against the San Diego Chargers might seem like an odd time to do a by the numbers, but it is actually tied to the college bowl season.

I am writing this in a sort of stream of consciousness technique, and if you feel like following along, great. If not, I truly understand. I love writing things about Broncos, things that fans and press today might not know, but that some might appreciate reading about.

The Number we are doing today is 11. It is labeled most recently as that worn by the tragic figure Kenny McKinley.

An Orange Sunday History Lesson

October 12th, 2010 - 11:15am by jim_saccomanoOther posts by

As one can see just by coming onto DenverBroncos.com, this week’s game against the New York Jets has officially been proclaimed Orange Sunday by Mayor John Hickenlooper.

The Denver Broncos organization is encouraging all fans to wear orange to the game. Broncos players will be wearing the team’s alternate orange jerseys this week, and all fans in attendance will receive an Orange Sunday rally towel, courtesy of U.S. Bank.

There will be a pep rally Friday, cheerleaders, alumni, food, drink, festivities and an “Orange Ride” encouraging fans to ride their bikes to a pregame tailgate party. The mayor will deliver the game ball on his bike, and it will be orange all over.

So, you think you know all about Orange Sunday?
