Cards Roundup - Roster Week

September 6th, 2009 - 8:31am by mark_cooperOther posts by mark_cooper

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Turnovers, ball control and gang tackling. I saw a lot of progress out there. I also saw Brandstater behind a second O-line and they did a real nice job.

Sure, all the starters weren’t on the field at the same time but I liked what I saw from a QB that had limited snaps up to this point.

BIG WEEK in anticipation of the opener and what you will see is the speed of the game “click” up a notch…watch and tell me if you see it.

Greetings from INVESCO Field at Mile High, where the Broncos conclude their preseason slate tonight against the defending NFC champion Arizona Cardinals. Both club’s couldn’t ask for better weather for their final tune-up before the 2009 regular season. Temperatures have been ideal all day and have stayed within the mid-80s the past few hours. As an added bonus, clouds are few and far between.

With NFL teams required to trim their rosters to 53 this weekend, tonight’s game will be the final audition for players trying to secure roster spots. Click below for weather and traffic reports.

Success on Short Calendar

September 2nd, 2009 - 3:46pm by Chris GentilvisoOther posts by Chris Gentilviso

With only three days wedged between the Bears and Cardinals preseason contests, Head Coach Josh McDaniels knew this week represented a test for how well his team could grasp its normal workload.

At the conclusion of Wednesday’s walkthrough, McDaniels rated that test as a success.

“We crammed everything we could cram into two days,” McDaniels said. “You kind of see what your guys are capable of learning real fast because there are some new little things that we have to do based on what they do. Our guys adapted well to it in the last two days.”

Moreno Back In Action

September 1st, 2009 - 1:42pm by Chris GentilvisoOther posts by Chris Gentilviso

After missing time with an injury, Knowshon Moreno was back on the practice field Tuesday at Dove Valley. Sporting an orange jersey designated for players recovering from injury, Moreno worked with the rest of the running backs in full drills at the onset of the session.

Among those backs was also LaMont Jordan, who returned from injury wearing his regular white No. 32 jersey. More to come at DenverBroncos.com following this afternoon’s practice.

Super Sunday is Set

January 19th, 2009 - 2:12am by mike_riceOther posts by mike_rice

Thoughts about the AFC and NFC Championship games:

PITTSBURGH 23, BALTIMORE 14

When a team plays at a high level on a consistent basis, it is easy to take for granted how good that team in. This just in: The Pittsburgh Steelers are really good.

They battled past the Ravens to get to another Super Bowl. And they looked good in the process.

Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was in complete control against a tough Ravens’ defense. The Steelers’ offense put 16 points on the board. They had some success running the ball, no small feat against the Ravens, and Big Ben made some big plays. He also knew when to cut his losses and avoid making the big mistake, preferring to let his defense protect field position.

In addition, Roethlisberger showed how tough he is by taking some fierce hits. He never seems to put up great stats, but Roethlisberger is a winner. He is in complete control of that offense. He plays hurt. He personifies a gritty Steelers’ team.

And let’s not forget that Roethlisberger gets a lot of help from a rugged Pittsburgh defense. Seriously, is there a better defense in the NFL? They held Ravens’ rookie quarterback Joe Flacco to 13 completions in 30 attempts for just 146 yards.

Broncos at Cardinals: Third Quarter Notes

August 29th, 2008 - 9:46pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

15:00: Prater is set to kickoff to Morey and Urban.

Urban takes it five-yards deep in the endzone and kneels for a touchback. Cardinals will start at their 20, and Brian St. Pierre is now in at quarterback.

14:07: After two incomplete passes and a short run, the Cardinals are forced to punt after gaining just three yards. Marquay McDaniel is back deep to receive the punt. McDaniel takes it at the 29 and advances it five yards before being taken down. Hackney leads the Broncos back onto the field, starting at their own 34.

13:24: Alridge is still carrying the load, taking another rush up the middle for nine yards before being taken down.

12:20: Alridge had another solid gain around the left end, but a holding penalty wiped it out, giving the Broncos a 2nd-and-20 from their own 36.

11:46: Alridge got another touch, this one a screen from Hackney that goes for eight yards. After a false start penalty on Chad Mustard, the Broncos faced a third-and-long but couldn’t complete a pass. Kern comes back out for another punt. Kern kicks 39 yards, and the ball is fair-caught at the Arizona 22.

Broncos at Cardinals: Second Quarter Notes

August 29th, 2008 - 8:45pm by Adam ZinserOther posts by Adam Zinser

15:00: First play of the second quarter is a handoff from Leinart to J.J. Arrington for a one-yard gain. The Cardinals face a third-and-long from deep in their own territory. He could have been sacked in the endzone, but Leinart steps up and connects with Jerheme Urban for a 23-yard gain and a first down.

12:30: Leinart completes a deep ball down the right hash to Urban for 35 yards, who beat Foxworth on the route, moving the Cardinals into the redzone.

11:30: Leinart hits Leonard Pope on a high pass in the middle of the endzone for a 17-yard touchdown. Cardinals take the lead, 7-3.

11:20: Alridge continues to get the majority of the carries, taking the first carry of this series six yards. He follows it up with a one-yard run, setting up third-and-three. Hackney scrambles for the first down to keep the Denver offense in business.

11:25: Rackers kicks off to Alridge and Russell, and Alridge takes it a few yards deep in the endzone. He hesitates at first, but then charges out, getting to the 26-yard line before being taken down.
