Final Week of Passing Camp

June 7th, 2010 - 11:40am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos took the field on Monday for the final week of passing camp. Monday’s practice — like Friday — was an “opportunity practice” for rookies and younger players to get some on-field work as the veterans worked out separately.

One new sighting was third-round pick Eric Decker, who was running back and forth catching passes from strength and conditioning coach Rich Tuten away from the rest of practice.

Demaryius Thomas, Ryan Harris and J.J. Arrington — all of whom returned to practice last week — were involved in the team portions of practice for the first time.

Who is Wearing What?

April 6th, 2010 - 4:33pm by Kyle SonnemanOther posts by

With the roster additions this offseason, many have asked who will be wearing what jersey number.

Well here it is, the most updated list from the Broncos equipment staff. The only player from last season to change his number thus far is Alphonso Smith. Smith switched his 33 to 22, with Nate Jones taking the vacated 33. Here are the rest of the new numbers. Some numbers are still being decided upon and once they are set, we will fill you in.

Brady Quinn – 9
Alphonso Smith – 22
Nate Jones – 33
Baraka Atkins – 58
Dustin Fry – 62
Jarvis Green – 93

From the Heart

December 22nd, 2009 - 1:50pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Tuesday morning, the Christmas wishes of three local children battling cancer came true.

Chris Baker, in association with the American Cancer Society, decided to invite the children to Dove Valley to gather around a big Christmas tree and give them a few early presents they had asked for.

“I had an aunt die from cancer recently, and I have another aunt that just got diagnosed with cancer,” Baker said. “I just thought it would be a good idea to give back to some kids who are struggling with cancer.”

So Melinda, 11, and Derek, 16, came with their families to Dove Valley for an early Christmas.

Open For Business

The footballs will be flying Thursday night at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Big House will be open for business again.

The Broncos will hold their evening practice at INVESCO Field at Mile High. I’m not sure how long it has been since they have held a training camp practice there, but it seems like it has been a while.

“We are all looking forward to going down there,” Broncos’ head coach Josh McDaniels said. “Usually during this time of training camp, you get rejuvenated by going down there, putting the lights on and being in the stadium. It is a fun thing for all of us. Everybody is looking forward to it, and I hope there is a good turnout. I hope we put on a good show.”

Training Camp Day 1: A.M. Blog

July 31st, 2009 - 11:52am by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

Check one more thing off the list on the road to the 2009 season — training camp is here. And the mass of fans lining the far hill of the Broncos practice fields almost an hour and a half before practice kicked off was a little taste of the excitement surrounding Day One.

As players came onto the field — dressed in full pads and uniform, including pants — some took a knee as soon as they hit the grass, pausing to take a moment before the unofficial start of another season.

It was perfect weather for the first day of practice — sunny with a little bit of shade. So without further adieu, here are some quick hits from the first practice session of the team’s 2009 training camp.

Cornerback Talk

June 9th, 2009 - 4:41pm by Zach EisendrathOther posts by

Cornerbacks Andre’ Goodman and Alphonso Smith stopped by the media room following Tuesday’s practice at Dove Valley.

Goodman spoke first and shared an interesting tidbit on defensive backs coach Ed Donatell’s teaching method.

The eight-year veteran has seen his share of coaches during his days with the Lions and Dolphins, but he’s never seen one illustrate a lesson plan by using film as old as Donatell does. Let’s just say some of the highlights he uses aren’t exactly HD quality.

“He is a guy who uses a lot of archives,” Goodman said. “Like he’ll go back to film that is early 90s. You’ll see Jerry Rice or Tim Brown on the film and it’s kind of surprising.”
