Sperry Joins Squad

Sperry

The Broncos were awarded tight end Kory Sperry off waivers from Miami on Tuesday. The team also waived Tyler Polumbus and officially released Akin Ayodele.

Sperry, a Colorado native who played collegiately at Colorado State, notched three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown in eight games, including one start, as a rookie with the Dolphins last season. Miami released the 6-foot-4, 238-pound tight end yesterday.

Polumbus played 31 games, including eight starts, the past two seasons with the Broncos. The former college free agent from Colorado filled in for Ryan Harris last season when the tackle missed eight games due to injury.

Ayodele signed with the Broncos in April, hoping to crack the rotation at linebacker in his ninth NFL season. On Tuesday, McDaniels said the team was releasing Ayodele now to give him a chance to catch on with another team.

Broncos Add Ayodele

April 26th, 2010 - 3:59pm by Gray CaldwellOther posts by

The Broncos on Monday officially announced the signing of free agent linebacker Akin Aydoele.

The ninth-year veteran has never missed a game in his career — one of three starting linebackers in the league to play in every game since 2002. He has started at least 11 games in each of the past seven seasons.

Ayodele played in Miami for the past two seasons — starting 15 of 16 games in 2009 — after playing for Dallas and Jacksonville.

In his career, he has played in 128 career games with 104 starts, amassing 834 tackles, 9.5 sacks, seven interceptions, 10 forced fumbles and 10 fumble recoveries.

He is the fifth defensive player to join the team since free agency began, not including the nine college free agents on the defensive side of the ball who agreed to terms with the team today.
